The most anticipated football game of the year is finally here. On Sunday in Miami, 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and his high-scoring Chiefs offense will face off against the vaunted 49ers defense in a matchup for the ages.
Veteran Chiefs coach Andy Reid is seeking his first Super Bowl victory after 21 years as a head coach, while 40-year-old 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is attempting to complete a remarkable franchise turnaround and win a world championship after winning just four games in 2018.
The Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl after pulling off remarkable comebacks in both the divisional round and the AFC Championship game, as Mahomes overturned double-digit deficits in both games and proved that the Chiefs can never be counted out of a game. The No. 1 seed 49ers, meanwhile, dominated both NFC playoff games thanks to a stifling defense that is fully healthy and an unstoppable run game led by Raheem Mostert, who rushed for four touchdowns in the NFC Championship game.
