After San Jose State lost as the top team to Fresno State, there is a new/old top team this week. Air Force reclaims the top spot for the fifth week of the year after it thrashed UNLV.
It came down to the Falcons and the Boise State Broncs, and it was the first-place votes that was the difference with just two more for the Falcons.
The Spartans went from first down to the third spot, and from there it just gets very, very jumbled amongst the league the rest of the way. Despite Fresno State’s close win over the Spartans, they actually did not move up a spot in our polls.
12. Nevada (LW: 11)
Yikes, not much is going well for Ken Wilson in his first stint as a head coach.
11. Hawaii (LW: 12)
For defeating Nevada, the Warriors move up one spot with its first FBS win under the Timmy Chang era. There is a path to maybe getting four wins, but this rebuild will take some time.
10. Colorado State (LW: 10)
Yes, they lost to Utah State but they to were down to a third-string quarterback. The Rams have a lot of growing pains as the transfer portal players keep adding up.
9. New Mexico (LW: 8)
Welp… the Lobos new offensive coordinator couldn’t get a start with this offense and it led to another loss and a drop in the polls.
8. Utah State (LW: 8)
Oof… the Aggies are down to their fourth-string quarterback in Bishop Davenport to help get the win over the Colorado State. Davenport is on track to start this week with Cooper Legas and Levin Williams listed as day-to-day.
7. Fresno State (LW: 7)
The defense helped with the win and this team is slowly getting healthier. The big key missing is still not having Jake Haener.
6. San Diego State (LW: 6)
Big roster moves during the bye week with Braxton Burmeister now going to wide receiver and Jalen Mayden is remaining at quarterback to get the start vs. Nevada.
5. UNLV (LW: 4)
This team is not healthy and is very much missing Doug Brumfield under center. Notre Dame this week will be tricky even if Brumfield and other injured players are back.
4. Wyoming (LW: 5)
Another team on a bye, perhaps they used the week wisely and help QB Andrew Peasley become more accurate.
3. San Jose State (LW: 1)
The offense took a step back in the game and it was mostly due to the ground game. If the Spartans can find consistency in that department then watch out.
2. Boise State (LW: 2, 4 first-place vote)
The Broncos were off last week and that just gives interim offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter more time to get the offense going.
1. Air Force (LW: 3, 6 first-place vote)
The Falcons MIGHT be the leagues most consistent team and that means the best, at least for now.
