WATCH: What Urban Meyer thinks when he sees the Michigan logo

Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was asked about his thoughts when he saw the Michigan logo. His reaction was priceless, yet sincere.

You don’t have to like your opponent, but you had better respect it — especially when that combatant is your arch rival and goes by the acronym TTUN. At least that’s what former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer seems to think about Michigan.

The crew at FOX College Football has been playing the logo game on occasion during the offseason, and it was time to flash the Block M up there and get some thoughts. And as you would probably guess, the team had to turn to Urban Meyer to get his Michigan-averse brain to weigh in when that logo appeared in all of its lost glory.

The crew seemed to know what was coming and had some pretty funny chuckling as the logo was beginning to appear, then Meyer froze in his tracks before telling everyone his thoughts. His response was somewhat comical, somewhat realistic, but also respectful.

“Too bad I had to come back to it,” said Meyer when the logo was flashed up. “I would say — and my colleagues know this — Reggie (Bush) and Matt (Leinart) and Brady (Quinn) and Rob (Stone), you guys know this. I see incredible respect. That’s what I see; I didn’t say like, but incredible respect. You better tie your shoes real tight and strap it up because you’re getting ready for something that’s coming at you. I imagine it’d be the same thing if you said USC/Notre Dame. I see incredible respect — again there’s a big difference between respect and like. There’s a lot of dislike, but a lot of respect.”

Here is the entire exchange thanks to FOX College Football’s Twitter profile:

There’s been much written on why Michigan can’t seem to get over the hump against Ohio State, and certainly, there appears to be a talent gap. However, that gap doesn’t equate to the utter dominance in the rivalry for the last sixteen years.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The OSU staff might have an extreme focus on this rivalry, but the players on the team are also conditioned to respect the rivalry and their opponent. I’m not so sure that happens on the other side with all the talking and empty promises. That too might play into the psychology of it all.
