Kamu Grugier-Hill started on Sunday in place of Ivan Pace Jr. who had to miss the game after popping up on the injury report earlier this week. On the opening drive, Grugier-Hill made his name known. The second play of the game, Texans’ quarterback CJ Stroud dropped back and threw a pass that was deflected by Harrison Phillips. Grugier-Hill was there to intercept the pass and set the Vikings up in Houston territory.
A few plays later, Sam Darnold found Justin Jefferson on third down for a six-yard touchdown pass to give the Vikings an early 7-0 lead over the Texans.
Grugier-Hill was a sixth-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Eagles before traveling around to four different teams in five seasons. The Vikings signed him this offseason for depth and he’s played well so far when given an opportunity.
Like last week against the 49ers, the Vikings’ defense will have to continue to make big plays to win a game like this.
Defense is on it early.
