The USC Trojans are No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports women’s college basketball poll.
The Trojans were No. 10 in the previous poll but moved up two spots due to Virginia Tech staying in place at No. 9 and UConn falling several spots.
USC is therefore a consensus top-eight team. The Trojans were No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Poll.
USC is one of five Pac-12 teams in the top eight of this poll, a sign of the conference’s depth and quality. UCLA is No. 2, Stanford No. 3, Utah No. 6, and Colorado No. 7.
Some people might wonder why Utah and Colorado, with one loss apiece, are ranked ahead of USC. With Utah, it’s hard to understand why the Utes are ahead of USC. Utah doesn’t yet have a high-end win on its resume. Colorado, though, has a legitimate case for being ranked ahead of USC despite one loss. The Buffaloes crushed defending national champion LSU earlier this season.
