Travis Hunter begs Deion Sanders for clearance to play against USC

Travis Hunter asked Coach Prime for clearance to play against USC

Less than 10 days after suffering a lacerated liver against Colorado State on Sept. 16, two-way star Travis Hunter is itching to get back and help the Buffs.

In a Well Off Media YouTube video posted on Monday, CU football head coach revealed during a team meeting that Hunter texted him asking for clearance to play on Saturday with USC coming to Boulder.

“I need to play this week. We need to get everything we can so I can get back on the field,” Hunter’s text to Sanders read. “I’m not taking no for an answer.”

The initial prognosis was that Hunter’s injury would keep him sidelined for at least three weeks. Saturday’s game against Oregon marked one week.

Sanders said he responded with, “No, you ain’t ready and I care about you more than I care about this game. You’re going to change the game of football one day when you’re healthy and ready. Your future is brighter than mine ever will be and ever was. Relax and get healthy. I love you, son.”

While we’d all like to see Hunter return, Coach Prime responded appropriately to Hunter’s request, especially when you consider that the injury involves a major internal organ.

If his recovery goes well, Hunter will likely return either on Oct. 13 vs. Stanford or after the bye week on Oct. 28 at UCLA.
