BYU offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes
If this name sounds familiar, it should. Grimes served as LSU’s offensive line coach from 2014-17 before BYU offered him the opportunity to be its offensive coordinator.
When Grimes was on staff at LSU, BYU tried to hire him in 2015, but the Tigers gave him a significant raise. However, when the Cougars offered him the chance to run the offense, something LSU could not offer him at the time.
Grimes has essentially spent his entire career as a successful offensive line coach at BYU, Colorado, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Boise State, and LSU before finally becoming an offensive coordinator in 2018.
BYU’s offense in 2020 was one of the most potent and innovative in all of college football. Grimes played a major role in the development of quarterback Zach Wilson as a premier NFL draft prospect.
This is a clip of #BYU just shown on GameDay. I remember talking 2 years ago to Cougars OC Jeff Grimes about his offense.
He mentioned that he’s using some stuff from Matt Canada’s playbook (they were both on staff at LSU in 2017).

The return of Grimes would not only help the offensive line, but he would bring fresh ideas to a passing offense that possesses plenty of young firepower.
BYU averaged 522 yards per game in 2020.
LSU could certainly create an enticing financial package for Grimes.
