2. Alabama reschedules cancelled games, continues with regular season, as planned.
In early May, there were rumors of Alabama and TCU potentially being in talks to play the season-opening game in Dallas as a substitute to USC due to fears over the Coronavirus’ large presence in California.
While the rumors never materialized, this is not an idea that should be overlooked. It may not be TCU, but Alabama rescheduling their Week 1 opponent, which is usually a marquee matchup against a team with some sort of national relevance, is not out of the question.
If they choose to keep their schedule, and the SEC doesn’t make an executive decision to play a conference-only schedule, it would be hard to believe they’d want to open the season against Georgia State, which is their current Week 2 opponent.
The game against USC might be the only game currently cancelled, but the Crimson Tide faces three other non-conference opponents. If their respective conferences or athletics programs decide that they will be altering their schedule, Alabama may have a difficult time finding four spots to fill on their 12-game schedule.
