Tom Brady retired yesterday. Again. It was the second straight year that he’s done just that on February 1. I don’t know what it is about that day of the year but it sure seems like one that makes the GOAT think about his life a little more, which then leads him to making some big life changes.
And listen, I know he was emotional in his retirement video that he made while sitting on a beach (hopefully a burger and a beer were just out of frame) and that he really seemed sincere when he said this time was “for good.”
But here’s what Brady should really do in a few weeks – he should do what he did last year and unretire. Heck, do it on Selection Sunday again. Make that a thing – the GOAT coming back while people try to figure out which 12 seed is going to get an upset. What a fun yearly tradition that could be!
I know what you’re thinking – I’m dumb and stupid and probably a whole lot of other not-so-nice things. But life is short! Brady probably has one year left of being able to put his body through professional football and he might as well give every last bit of himself to a game that he has loved and dominated for so many years.
Which team should he join? That’s an easy one. The Miami Dolphins! Again, I know you’re thinking some really bad things but hear me out on why this would be perfect.
– Brady wouldn’t have to go there and be a starter. Brady, a backup!? Am I nuts!? Sure, maybe a little. But he and the Dolphins could agree on a role that initially has less pressure on him and lets the GOAT be a part of professional football without having the stress of having to carry a franchise.
– Brady could be a perfect person to work with Tua Tagovailoa, who showed some flashes of greatness in his first year with Mike McDaniel.
– While Tua had some really good moments last season, he did miss six games due to the numerous concussions that he suffered. Hopefully he can comeback healthy next season and all will be good for the former Alabama star. But if all does not go well for him and he gets banged up again, Brady could then step in and help carry this team, which has some serious weapons, a lot better than Tua’s backups did in 2022.
– If things just aren’t going well for the Dolphins then they could make Brady the starter and see if he could work some more magic. The NFL is a win now league and there’s no better insurance plan than having No. 12 as an option to step in and try to turn things around.
– Brady’s kids will be in Miami so he doesn’t have to worry about being away from them and he might be a little more chilled out when he doesn’t have to be the guy… at least at first
Is this one of the dumbest ideas you’ve heard in a while? Maybe.
Would the Dolphins be interested at all in something like this? They’ve recently said no but… I don’t fully believe that. They did tamper with him in the past and lost some draft picks over it.
Would Brady even want to do any of that? Probably not.
But again, life is short. Brady can still be a pretty good quarterback. And his announcing job can wait.
Let’s go!

– NHL TV ratings are way down this year and angry hockey fans had lots of reasons why.
– The Raptors’ Scottie Barnes became a funny meme thanks to the unfazed look he gave to Deandre Ayton after a hard foul.
– Donna Kelce, the mom of Travis and Jason Kelce, had a great explanation for why she’s rooting for the Eagles in Super Bowl 57.
– My pal Bryan Kalbrosky had a great Q&A with Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, which you should read.
