Three ranked teams await Rutgers football in the coming weeks

Rutgers football is set to face three teams in the top 16 in the coming weeks. Another three are receiving votes. This won’t be easy.

Rutgers is out of all the polls following a 20-13 loss to at No. 19 Michigan this past Saturday. It was a gutsy and gritty performance from Rutgers, but clearly not enough to impress the voters in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Rutgers didn’t receive a single vote this week for the poll. The Scarlet Knights were never ranked but had received consideration in the form of receiving votes each of the previous three weeks.

It was a bit surprising to see Rutgers drop out of consideration entirely, given that the Scarlet Knights very nearly pulled off what would have been an impressive road upset. Now 3-1 (0-1, Big Ten), Rutgers is at home this weekend to Ohio State.

Oh, that’s right, No. 10 Ohio State. It really doesn’t get any easier for Rutgers, does it?

Here is a look at the ranked teams Rutgers faces in the coming weeks as they look to make a bowl game for the first time since 2014 when they beat North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl.

As a side note, Michigan jumped five spots by beating Rutgers over the weekend. The Wolverines are now No. 14 in the USA TODAY poll.
