Nintendo released The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s second trailer on Tuesday, giving fans a first-ever look at several iconic characters and locations.
During November 2022’s edition of Nintendo Direct, animation studio Illumination gave us another glance at The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Unlike the first trailer, you can hear Anya Taylor-Joy’s take on Princess Peach and a few grunts from Seth Rogan’s portrayal of Donkey Kong. Chris Pratt shouts a couple of iconic Mario lines like “wahoo” and “let’s-a go,” — which might win over the doubters.
Check out the trailer for yourself below! There are plenty of tiny references from across Mario’s nearly 40-year history.
The most recognizable callbacks would be Mario wearing a tanooki suit and everyone go-karting around on Rainbow Road. Nintendo and Illumination appear to be going all-in on the nostalgia angle. Still not much in the way of plot details, but hey — it’s a children’s film about plumbers squashing goombas.
There were a couple more lines from Jack Black’s Bowser too, which still has fans going wild. Overall, the casting seems good, at least from these quick teasers.
We’ll find out if it all comes together well when The Super Mario Bros. Movie premieres in theaters on April 7, 2023.
