Over the past couple days we learned Texas’ basketball team is pursuing one of the most coveted recruits in high school basketball.
Five-star forward Cooper Flagg, who ranks as the No. 2 recruit in the 2025 class, took to Twitter to announce the Longhorns were the latest program to offer. Texas joins Duke, Villanova, UConn and UCLA on his list of pursuers.
Flagg is already being heralded as the next great American prospect, and he has been tearing up the AAU circuit. He was recently named the MVP of the Nike Peach Jam by 247Sports after he put up video game numbers en route to leading Maine United to the championship game.
Flagg averaged 25.4 points, 13 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 6.9 blocks per game. By all accounts, he outshined current No. 1 recruit Cameron Boozer in their two head-to-head matchups, the latest in the championship game.
The Montverde (Florida) player will likely be one of the most sought after recruits in the country over the next couple years, but there is no telling what path he will decide to take. Regardless, if Texas lands him he has a chance to have a Kevin Durant level impact.
