Texans’ Tyrod Taylor has good friends in the Jets’ QB room

Houston Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor says that he has some good friends in the New York Jets QB room in Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson.

When the Houston Texans take on the New York Jets in Week 12 at NRG Stadium, it will be a reunion of sorts for quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

The New York Jets currently roster two of Taylor’s former teammates throughout his 11-year NFL career in quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson.

Flacco more than likely won’t beat COVID protocol with two consecutive negative tests within a 24-hour period to make the trip to Houston, but Johnson will be available to backup rookie Zach Wilson.

“I haven’t talked to ‘Flacc’ (Flacco),” Taylor said. “I’m going to shoot him a text. It’s unfortunate he’s going through the COVID protocol now. Eventually, obviously we were going to talk.”

Taylor was teammates with Flacco with the Baltimore Ravens from 2011-14. The two were members of the Ravens’ 2012 team, the last from Baltimore to win the Super Bowl.

Johnson was a backup quarterback for the Buffalo Bills in 2015, Taylor’s lone Pro Bowl season, and someone Taylor characterizes as, “a good friend of mine as well”

“I’m pretty sure I’ll talk to him at the game,” said Taylor.

If nothing else, Flacco at least will get a text from Taylor.

Said Taylor: “If Flacco doesn’t travel, which I’m not updated on how that goes, then I’ll definitely shoot him a text. I’ll probably shoot him a text tomorrow on Thanksgiving.”

The Texans and Jets are equally 2-8 and are seeking to establish cultures under rookie coaches David Culley and Robert Saleh. Whoever loses the matchup can take comfort in the consolation that their draft position will improve.
