Texans QB Deshaun Watson reached out to Cowboys QB Dak Prescott following broken ankle

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson says he reached out to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott following his broken ankle in Week 5.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson took time to reach out to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott following his broken ankle in Week 5 that will cost the two-time Pro Bowler his season.

Watson, who never experienced that specific injury, did tear his ACL on Nov. 2, 2017, three days before the Texans were to take on the Indianapolis Colts in his rookie year.

“All injuries are tough, all types, each and every play you’re putting your body and your health is on the line,” Watson said. “You don’t want to think about that but it’s reality and that’s part of the sport. That’s part of the game. It was definitely tough to see what happened.”

The Cowboy were playing the New York Giants in the late afternoon time slot, which gave Watson a chance to watch the game, if not be aware of Prescott’s injury when the news exploded on social media.

“I wrote him on Twitter and I also texted him,” Watson said. “He’s probably got so much going on. I know exactly — I didn’t have that type of injury, but when I had my ACL, there was a lot of people reaching out.”

According to Watson, the first week after a season-ending injury is always the hardest. Then, the rehabilitation process is another odyssey and injured athlete must undergo en route to playing the game again.

Said Watson: “These next six months are going to be a challenge but he’s that type of person to handle all that. He’s going to have a great supporting cast and everyone in the NFL, especially in the quarterback position is going to lift him up and send our prayers towards him and make sure he’s good.”

In the two quarterbacks’ lone meeting on Oct. 7, 2018, the Texans got the best of the Cowboys 19-16 on Sunday Night Football in NRG Stadium. Prescott went 18-of-29 for 208 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions while Watson completed 33 of 44 passing for 375 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
