Texans coach Demeco Ryans reveals why no one knew what Houston was going to do with the No. 2 overall pick

One of the biggest questions entering the 2023 NFL draft involved the Houston Texans and what they were going to do with the No. 2 overall pick. There were many guesses and projections that fluctuated almost by the day.

In the end, only two people knew what Houston was going to do. They were Texans GM Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans. C.J. Stroud was their guy the whole time.

Ryans and Caserio kept the decision under strict lock and key. Not even owner Cal McNair knew that Stroud, the Ohio State quarterback, would be the No. 2 pick.

Here’s what Ryans told the NFL Network during Saturday’s broadcast,

“There wasn’t a leak because there was nothing to leak. Me and Nick are pretty much the same. We’re not going out there telling everyone what we’re doing. We don’t feel like that’s an advantage to us and doesn’t help anyone. So me and Nick our conversations were confidential. We kept things to ourselves and that’s how it should be.”

Ryans has a backup career as a plumber if he chooses. The man know how to prevent leaks.
