Tennessee joins the list with Vanderbilt, LSU, South Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and Ole Miss.
Merrill is a 3-star wide receiver, listed as the No. 61 wide receiver in his class and No. 11 player in the state of Tennessee per the 247Sports Composite. Merrill’s Brentwood Bruins are consistently one of the best high school football teams in the state, and he is used to winning.
A tough, 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver, Merrill’s talents in high school were usually best shown after the catch, or when deployed as a punt and kick returner. Tennessee has made good ground pursuing Merrill, with wide receivers coach Tee Martin leading the charge.
Tennessee currently has seven players committed to the 2021 recruiting class, with only one wide receiver in 4-star Jordan Mosley from Alabama.
