Zack Baun (shoulder) missed practice on Wednesday but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday and will start alongside Nakobe Dean.
The Eagles (4-2) are in Cincinnati for an exciting matchup against the Bengals (3-4) at Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia’s explosive offense will not be at full strength again as right guard Mekhi Becton (concussion) and tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) will be out for Sunday’s game.
Becton suffered the concussion last Sunday against the Giants and was replaced by Tyler Steen, while Goedert will miss his second straight contest.
One positive for Philadelphia is the status of linebacker Zack Baun.
Baun (shoulder) missed practice on Wednesday but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday and will start alongside Nakobe Dean. Backup cornerback Eli Ricks (groin) was upgraded to a full participant on Friday after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday.
Backup defensive tackle Byron Young was also ruled out for Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, and Young was placed on injured reserve.
Star wide receiver Tee Higgins was added to the injury report Friday for the Bengals as a limited participant. He suffered a quadriceps injury and is questionable for Sunday’s game. Higgins missed the first two games of the season with a hamstring injury.

Nick Sirianni says the Eagles like their linebacker group when asked about Devin White’s release
The Eagles released Devin White on Tuesday, ending weeks of speculation about why the veteran linebacker was inactive for four straight games.
During his Wednesday press conference, head coach Nick Sirianni addressed White’s release, calling the linebacker a “great professional” who did his business correctly.
Asked to clarify, Sirianni stated that the Eagles liked the linebackers they had on the roster.

He was a good pro. It was disappointing for him. This shows how excited we are about the other ILBs in the room. pic.twitter.com/aLt4MIUShw

Philadelphia has had Nakobe Dean and Zack Baun start as linebackers, with mixed results.
According to The Athletic, the Eagles allow the NFL’s fourth-most yards per rush (5.0) and pressure quarterbacks at the fourth-lowest rate (15.9 percent) through five weeks of play.

The Eagles cut a former first-round pick after an ex-Saints backup took his job. Maybe Zack Baun should’ve gotten more snaps the last four years:
Shout out to Zack Baun. It’s all you can do after the former New Orleans Saints backup linebacker signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and outcompeted a former first-round draft pick for a starting job. The Eagles cut veteran linebacker Devin White on Tuesday after Baun displaced him in the lineup, and now he’s a free agent. White was inactive for each of Philly’s first four games this season.
Baun, meanwhile, is closing in on a new career high for snaps played (254; he peaked last year with 303 reps in the Saints defense). He’s already set a new personal best with 43 tackles on the season (29 solo). And he’s still receiving only occasional looks as a pass rusher off the edge, while continuing to line up off the line of scrimmage. Maybe he should’ve been playing more often for the Saints over the last four years.
As for White? He’s looking for a new team after signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Eagles this spring. White was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 5 overall in 2019’s first round, and while he had some great moments and a Pro Bowl nod in 2021, he’s struggled to consistently run and cover as well as his peers. We’ll see where he lands next, but the bigger issue is the Saints failing to get more out of Baun after they traded up to get him in 2020.

Former Wisconsin linebacker leads NFL in solo tackles entering Week 4
Former Wisconsin and current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun leads the NFL with 27 solo tackles entering Week 4.
After nine solo tackles in the Eagles’ 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Baun took a commanding lead over the hierarchy. Safety Nick Cross (Colts), linebacker E.J. Speed (Colts), linebacker Robert Spillane (Raiders) and cornerback Jamal Dean (Buccaneers) round out the top five through three weeks of action.
The West Bend, Wisconsin, native has also accumulated 37 total tackles — second-most to Cross.
Baun, whose previous career high in solo tackles was 22 in 2021 with the New Orleans Saints, has enjoyed a breakout season in his first year in Philadelphia. He, alongside Bryce Huff, Nakobe Dean and Josh Sweat, leads the NFL’s No. 4-ranked tackling defense thus far through three weeks.

The former Badger is among eight rostered linebackers across the 32-team NFL in 2024. That star-studded list includes T.J. Watt (Steelers), Nick Herbig (Steelers), Andrew Van Ginkel (Vikings), Leo Chenal (Chiefs), Maema Njongmeta (Bengals), Jack Sanborn (Bears) and T.J. Edwards (Bears).
The 2019 first consensus first-team All-American linebacker will be back on the gridiron on Sept. 29 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Former Wisconsin linebacker leads Eagles in tackles for second time this season
The University of Wisconsin’s football program may just be the country’s premier ‘Linebacker-U.’
Former Badger linebacker Zack Baun threw another log onto that well-deserved fire on Sunday. The UW alumnus tallied 13 total tackles, including nine solo, in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Prior to the Week 3 contest, the former Badger accumulated 24 total tackles and two sacks for the Eagles against the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons. The total was enough to vault him into the No. 2 spot in total tackles across the NFL through two weeks.
With 13 more recorded on Sunday, Baun now trails only Indianapolis Colts’ safety Nick Cross in total tackles through three bouts of the 2024 slate.
Before signing with Philadelphia in March, Baun spent his first four NFL seasons in New Orleans. His previous career high in tackles for a season was 30 in 2023 and 2021. He officially shattered that on Sunday.

Outside of Baun, he Badgers currently have eight former linebackers playing in the NFL. That list includes T.J. Watt (Steelers), Nick Herbig (Steelers), Andrew Van Ginkel (Vikings), Leo Chenal (Chiefs), Maema Njongmeta (Bengals), Jack Sanborn (Bears) and T.J. Edwards (Bears).
At Wisconsin, Baun was the first consensus first-team All-America linebacker in school history in 2019 and led UW with a single-season and tallied 154 total tackles, 30.5 TFLs and 15.0 sacks from 2016-19.

Saquon Barkley logged 17 carries for 147 yards (8.6 avg) and one touchdown, and the Eagles defense held the Saints to 219 total yards on 55 offensive plays, as Philadelphia moved to 2-1 on the season without several key starters.
Philadelphia will head to Tampa Bay in Week Four for an intriguing matchup against the 2-1 Buccaneers before the Week 5 bye. With the game now final, here are the top photos from the win.

The Eagles’ offense continued their first-half struggles, but Vic Fangio’s unit was stout and dominant, allowing just 71 yards to the Saints. Jalen Hurts turned the football over twice, and Nick Sirianni aggressively went for a fourth down conversion over attempting a field goal late in the first half, costing Philadelphia points.
The Eagles trail 3-0 at the end of the first half, and we have the sights and sounds from the Caesars Superdome.
Former New Orleans Saints defenders C.J. Gardner-Johnson return to the Caesars Superdome, but this time as members of the Philadelphia Eagles:
The New Orleans Saints versus Philadelphia Eagles is better known in certain circles as the C.J. Gardner Johnson and Zack Baun revenge game.
It’s unclear if Baun has any animosity towards the Saints, but Gardner-Johnson certainly held a grudge upon his departure. There was even a point where he called the Saints his favorite opp.
Ironically, the Saints have played Gardner-Johnson’s team in each of the past two seasons. The safety has been unable to dress out, however, due to injuries. He did miss Thursday’s practice with a foot issue so he may miss this revenge game for the third year in a row.
Gardner-Johnson rose to prominence as one of the best nickel corners and trash talkers in the league with New Orleans. Since departing he has transitioned into becoming a safety. He was punched in the face again during “Monday Night Football,” so it’s safe to say his position is the only thing that changed.
Baun looked like a star in the making in Week 1. In Brazil, Baun made 15 tackles and had two sacks. That sack total ties his season high with New Orleans from last year. Most surprisingly, he is doing this from inside linebacker. Baun has left the Saints for a more important role. He is a starting linebacker who is going to beat all of his season high marks possibly before Week 5.
The Saints offense will look to exploit both of their former players and come down with a third straight victory.
