Zach Cunningham returns to Eagles practice ahead of critical matchup vs. Cowboys

Talented linebacker Zach Cunningham returns to Eagles practice ahead of critical matchup vs. Cowboys

This summer, Zach Cunningham joined the Eagles as a veteran linebacker who has played exceptionally well when allowed to shine in the middle of a defense.

Cunningham then went from added depth to starting at middle linebacker after Nakobe Dean initially went on injured reserve with a foot injury.

The veteran exited Philadelphia’s Week 12 win against Buffalo with a hamstring injury, and Cunningham missed last week’s loss to the 49ers. He was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice and now looks to be a full-go on Thursday.

Cunningham has 71 tackles, four passes defensed, and a fumble recovery while starting nine of the Eagles’ 11 games this season.

More importantly, the Philadelphia defense is more efficient and better against the pass when he’s in the lineup.

Eagles could be without two defensive starters for matchup vs. 49ers

After not practicing on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles could be without Fletcher Cox, Zach Cunningham for matchup vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Eagles could be without two of their top defenders after Fletcher Cox (groin) and Zach Cunningham (hamstring) missed another practice ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the 49ers.

If neither player can participate in Friday’s session, they could be inactive for Sunday afternoon’s most crucial game.

Dallas Goedert (forearm), Justin Evans (ankle), and Grant Calcaterra (ankle) are both also not practicing on Thursday.

Offensive tackle Lane Johnson (groin) could be a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. Johnson was added to the injury report after waking up with groin tightness before Sunday’s game.

Defensive tackle Milton Williams (concussion) is still in the NFL’s Concussion Protocol.

Wide receivers A.J. Brown (thigh), Julio Jones (knee), and DeVonta Smith (ankle) were limited participants during Wednesday’s practice. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis (hamstring) and running back D’Andre Swift (ankle) also were limited participants.

Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker Zach Cunningham to miss time with a hamstring injury

On the day that Philadelphia is hosting Shaquille Leonard on a free-agent visit, the team expects starting linebacker Zach Cunningham to miss time with a hamstring injury.

According to The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Cunningham will be out this week against San Francisco, and he could potentially miss more time.

Christian Elliss played 27 snaps in relief of Cunningham last Sunday, amassing seven tackles and one tackle for loss on the afternoon.

If Cunningham does miss time, the Eagles will start Elliss alongside Nicholas Morrow, while rookie Ben VanSumeren could be signed to the active roster.
