Nebraska volleyball smashes women’s sporting event attendance record

Women’s volleyball now sits third place in attendance records for all 24 NCAA sports.

Nebraska has officially broken the world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event at 92,003. The day was dubbed “Volleyball Day in Nebraska” and the event featured four teams across two divisions. DII programs Wayne State (Neb.) and Nebraska-Kearney played an exhibition match followed by a regular season game between Nebraska and Omaha.

The game broke the “world record for attendance at any women’s sporting event, surpassing the 91,648 in attendance at a 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg at Camp Nou.”

Women’s volleyball now sits third place in attendance records for all 24 NCAA sports, right behind FBS football (156,990) and men’s ice hockey (113,411).

Nebraska has had 306 consecutive regular-season sellouts and has led the NCAA in attendance each year since 2013.

VolleyHogs defeat highest ranked opponent since 2007

Arkansas beats No. 8 Washington 3-1 in home season opener.

It wasn’t enough, just enough, to host the highest ranked opponent. Arkansas turned the challenge into a big win for the program.

The VolleyHogs defeated No. 8 Washington, 3-1, claiming their biggest win against a top-ten opponent since the program’s win against No. 5 Florida in 2015.

The Huskies made a push in the fourth set but the VolleyHogs held their composure.

“Initially, when we came in, we were a little concerned that we didn’t have the time that we needed to prep,” head coach Jason Watson said. “Proud of our team, I thought they played well and composed themselves, especially in that fourth set when they were making a run at us, it was a little bit of a challenge there, but I thought that was really mature volleyball at the end of the match.”

This was the first time two schools played each other since 2005, with VolleyHogs owning the all-time series lead 2-1.
