North Carolina vs Wofford Game Preview

Why Wofford Will Win

There’s a chance North Carolina QB Sam Howell doesn’t go in this, or is limited.

He suffered what’s being termed as an upper body injury late in the overtime loss to Pitt. With or without him, with the showdown at NC State coming up next, there might not be the team’s full focus here against a Terrier team that doesn’t screw up.

There might not be a whole lot happening on the defensive side, but Wofford doesn’t get hit with a lot of penalties, there aren’t a lot of turnovers, and the running-style opens things up for big downfield plays.

However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why North Carolina Will Win

North Carolina can’t mess around. It still needs to get bowl eligible.

Between needing to win this, Senior Day, and having to focus its lousy run defense on the Wofford team’s rushing style, the focus should be there.

Whether or not Howell is 100%, the Tar Heels should be able to run as much as they want to. They were stopped by the Pitt D last week, but they hit 220 yards in each of the previous four games and nailed Wake Forest for 330 on the ground.

Even with its style, Wofford doesn’t do much to control the clock thanks to a run defense that’s having a rough run.

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

The crowd will honor the seniors, the team will want to put this away fast, and …

The Wofford running game will be annoying enough to make this interesting into the second half. And then the floodgates will open.

North Carolina will get up big, the backups will come in, and it’ll be on to the NC State game on Friday.

Why ETSU Will Win

Run, Quay, run.

ETSU has an elite back in Quay Holmes, and he did what he was supposed to do in the 24-17 win over Samford with 125 yards and two scores, to go along with 47 yards from Jacob Saylors to get pounding. The passing game helped the caught with 191 yards and a few big plays down the field from Tyler Riddell.

Wofford might have been great against the Chattanooga running game, but lost 24-13 with its own ground game getting stopped way too easily and often.

The Mocs controlled the clock, the turnover battle, and the tempo, and ETSU has the makeup to hold down the Terrier ground game after allowing just 2.6 yards per carry, but …

Why Wofford Will Win

It was a bad day against a Chattanooga team that’s better than it probably gets credit for.

This is still a fantastic Wofford team that’s going to be in the thick of the SoCon chase, the offense still works – even if the ground game isn’t quite as sharp as it should be – and the defense hasn’t been all that bad.

The Terriers have to do a better job of controlling the clock and keeping things moving, but the defense should swarm around Holmes and the team should be far better with two games under its belt.

What’s Going To Happen

Is this when Wofford plays like it’s supposed to?

Even with last week’s loss, it’s still among the best teams in the conference, but it has to start cranking up the attack and being more dominant on the lines.

It’s not going to destroy ETSU, but the Wofford O line is overdue to play up to its talent.

Wofford (1-0) vs Chattanooga (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Wofford Will Win

Wofford had no problems in a 31-14 win over Mercer to kick things off.

The ground game didn’t dominate, but it averaged close to five yards per carry, came up with 201 yards, and got up fast and coasted from there. Jimmy Weirck threw for 173 yards and didn’t make any mistakes, the defense came up with three fumble recoveries, and it was a good first battle.

Chattanooga might have the talent and ability to keep up offensively, but the defensive front will have a problem with the Terrier ground attack and most importantly, it’s probably going to need a bit to get going against a team with a game under its belt.

Why Chattanooga Will Win

The Mocs have the star power to rise up as the game goes on. The offensive line is solid, Bryce Nunnelly is one of the best receivers in the SoCon, and RB Ailym Ford needs to come up with a big performance behind that good line.

Between Jordan Jones and Brandon Dowdell, Chattanooga has a good pair of defensive backs to work around, but it’ll be the other side of the ball that has to pull this off. Mercer was able to run well – even though it was down to Wofford 17-0 at the half – and the Mocs have to establish its O from the start.

What’s Going To Happen

Considering how good Furman is and should be, the loser of this has a whole lot of work to do in the SoCon race.

Wofford might have the right running attack and that one game of warm up, but Chattanooga has more top talent. It’s going to be a tight back-and-forth battle with the Mocs getting hot on two late drives – helped by two late stops – for the massive win.
