Former Alabama LB andandvoices confidence ahead of Tide’s matchup against Texas

Former Alabama linebacker and current Atlanta Falcon Rashaan Evans voiced his level on confidence in the Crimson Tide ahead of week two’s matchup versus Texas.

On Friday, former Alabama linebacker Rashaan Evans voiced his confidence in the Crimson Tide ahead of their Week 2 matchup versus the Texas Longhorns. Evans currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons. He spoke with the Falcons’ social media team on how he felt about Alabama’s upcoming matchup and expressed reasoning as to why Alabama would come away victorious with his teammate Ta’Quon Graham.

Evans spent four seasons at Alabama. His path leading up to that point was unexpected as he attended Auburn High School. Ahead of his commitment, he received 11 crystal balls in favor of Auburn. However, he spurned the hometown team and elected to commit to Alabama instead.

During his career at Alabama, he was named a member of the All-SEC First Team and a First-team All-American. Both were awarded to Evans after a tremendous senior season. He recorded 74 tackles, six sacks, and 13 tackles for loss.

He has played with both the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons during his professional career. He recently signed with the Falcons to a one-year deal worth $1.75 million this offseason.

Alabama is taking on the Longhorns in a highly anticipated week two matchup. The Crimson Tide won the last matchup between the two by a final score of 37-21 in the 2010 BCS National Championship.

Expectations are higher than ever for Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding’s defense this season. All eyes will be on that side of the ball as nine starters return from a year ago. This could very well be one of the best Alabama defenses in the Nick Saban era.

Players like Henry To’o’To’o, Will Anderson, Jordan Battle and Dallas Turner are several of the key returning starters from last season. All four will be called on in Alabama’s efforts to return to the College Football Playoff. They will have to set the tone early in their Week 2 matchup against an ascending Texas football program that is led by head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The Longhorns are fresh off of a 52-10 victory against Louisiana-Monroe. They are coached well and have a valiant air attack. Although they had a rough season in 2021, they could present some challenges for Alabama. Areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s Week 2 matchup against Texas

Some areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s Week 2 matchup against the Texas Longhorns.

Alabama didn’t have a tough time in their Week 1 matchup against Utah State. However, that may not be the case as the Crimson Tide travel to Austin to collide with the Texas Longhorns. Although the Longhorns have struggled in recent years, they have a strong connection with the Alabama coaching staff. Several players and coaches that were formerly with the Crimson Tide are now at Texas. Perhaps, the most notable is head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The former Alabama offensive coordinator runs a similar style of offense to the one he had when he was in Tuscaloosa. He was one of the more reliable coordinators under Nick Saban in recent years, so that could present a huge challenge.

Alabama thrived on both sides of the ball this past weekend. That will be put to the test this upcoming weekend against an ascending Big 12 program.

Roll Tide Wire will take a look at some of the areas of concern in the Week 2 matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
