Oklahoma Sooners back in the top 15 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll

The Oklahoma Sooners got a bump in the latest US LBM Coaches poll after their 59-20 win over West Virginia.

The Oklahoma Sooners got back on the winning side of things in their 59-20 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers. It was a performance that resembled the Sooners team we saw leading into the bye week that beat Iowa State by 30 and pulled out an upset win over the Texas Longhorns.

With their win, the Sooners earned a bump back into the top 15 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll. They’re now the second highest-rated team in the Big 12 after Oklahoma State and Kansas lost this weekend.

Oklahoma moved up three spots this week after their 29-point win. With a trip to Provo and a home date against TCU, there’s a chance the Sooners could finish inside the top 10 if they can take care of business.

Here’s a look at the top 15 of the US LBM Coaches Poll and where the Oklahoma Sooners stand.

Washington shuts out Utah in second half to remain undefeated

Washington has improved to 10-0 with a win over Utah

Washington is 10-0 for the second time in program history.

The Huskies outscored Utah 11-0 in the second half at Husky Stadium on Saturday en route to a 35-28 Pac-12 victory.

The Washington defense shut down — and shut out — the Utes after a first half that saw it allow all 28 of Utah’s points.

Heisman favorite Michael Penix Jr. threw for 322 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.

Dillon Johnson had 104 rushing yards and a score.

Utah QB Bryson Barnes had 238 of his 267 passing yards before halftime.

The Huskies face another test next week when they face Oregon State in Corvallis before concluding the regular season with the Apple Cup against Washington State.

After that, there would be the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Twitter erupts after Washington’s Alphonzo Tuputala drops a pick-six at the one-yard line

Washington Huskies linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala had a sure pick-six against Utah, until he dropped the ball at the Utes’ one-yard line.

Well, this was not the comedy we expected.

With 30 seconds left in the third quarter of Washington’s crucial Pac-Whatever-It-Is-Now game against Utah, Huskies linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala intercepted a pass from Utes quarterback Bryson Barnes, and had a clear path to the end zone.

Except for one little thing — Tuputala dropped the ball a yard before the end zone, which made it a fumble, and Utah offensive guard Michael Mokofisi recovered the ball at the Utes’ own one-yard line.

Here’s the even more bizarre thing — the Huskies were actually rewarded for this blunder. On the very next play, running back Ja’Quinden Jackson was tackled in the end zone for a safety, giving the Huskies a 35-28 lead.

As yo might expect, social media was all over this one.

Washington earns safety after linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala drops pick-six at one-yard line

Washington wound up with a safety the play after a Huskie made a huge gaffe

Talk about momentum swings.

It looked like Washington was going to be up 39-28 in the third quarter on Saturday when Alphonzo Tuputala intercepted a Utah pass and returned it 76 yards.

The problem? Alphonzo needed to return it 77 yards for a pick-six. He dropped the ball a yard short of the goal line and Michael Mokofisi of Utah, a 350-pound lineman, had the presence of mind to fall on the football at the Utah 1.

The Huskies’ defense picked up Tuputala on the next play.

Ja’Quinden Jackson was tackled in the end zone for a safety.

After all that, Washington led the Utes, 35-28, entering the fourth quarter.

And Tuputala has to hope the Huskies wind up winning to remain undefeated so his gaffe will not be as costly as it could have been.

Washington defender bungles pick-six by dropping the ball early

Washington linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala nearly had a pick-six before he made a shocking mistake at the 2-yard line.

The Washington Huskies clung to a 33-28 lead against Utah on Saturday when linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala seemed to make the play of the season.

He grabbed a pass from Utah quarterback Bryson Barnes and raced all the way up the sideline and into the end zone for a Huskies touchdown, potentially giving Washington an imminent 40-28 lead.

Take a closer look at what Tuputala does as he approaches the end zone, however.

Not only did the Washington linebacker drop the ball early, he wasn’t even close to the end zone.

A Utah offensive lineman jumped on the ball, saving the day for the Utes and giving them the ball back at the 1-yard line.

The Huskies’ defense wouldn’t leave Tuputala out to dry, however. The defensive line blew up Utah’s first play on the ensuing possession for a safety, giving Washington a 35-28 lead and the ball back on offense.

Utah, Washington combine for 52 points in wild first half

Offenses were ruling the day as Utah dueled Washington

Washington had its hands full in the first half of a Pac-12 game on Saturday against Utah.

The Huskies were trying to maintain their undefeated mark against a Utah team that was 7-2 overall and 4-2 in conference.

There were long drives — quick ones — and plenty of points in the first 30 minutes as the Utes went up 28-24 at the break.

Bryson Barnes of Utah was 13-of-17 for 238 passing yards and 2 TDs.

Heisman favorite Michael Penix Jr. also had 13 completions but he attempted 27 passes. Penix had one TD throw and 1 TD.

The 10 most important games for Oregon Duck fans to watch in Week 11

A look at the most important games for Oregon Duck fans to pay attention to on Saturday while they wait for kickoff vs. USC.

One of the very few benefits of having your team’s game kick off at 7:30 p.m. is that it allows you to enjoy some of the best football games throughout the day across the nation.

For Oregon Duck fans, that will be the case on Saturday as they wait until after dark for their clash with the USC Trojans. Fortunately, there are a number of really important and entertaining games taking place throughout the day, many of which will hold significant weight in the race for the College Football Playoff.

So where should you be looking on Saturday as you wait for the Ducks to kick off that night? We’ve got you covered on what to watch:

Top-5 most watchable college football games of Week 11

We’ve compiled our list of the top-5 most watchable games of Week 11, along with where you can watch them.

The College Football Playoff race is becoming clearer as we enter the final weeks of the regular season, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that we could find ourselves in a situation with more undefeated or one-loss conference champions than there are playoff spots. That means that the remaining contenders have no margin of error from here on out. Every loss could be a knockout blow to a team’s playoff, hopes and that means high-pressure situations week in and week out.

To help you get a handle on which games will have the biggest impact on this dramatic playoff race, as well as which games are worth your time even if they have no impact on the playoffs, we’ve compiled our list of the top-5 most watchable games of Week 11, along with where you can watch them.

Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. replicates Aaron Rodgers’ historic throw

Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. had a touchdown pass on Saturday that looked a lot like Aaron Rodgers’ greatest NFL throw.

It was the ESPYs Play of the Year for 2017, and it’s easy to understand why. With 12 seconds left in the Green Bay Packers’ 34-31 divisional round playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys on January 5, 2016, Aaron Rodgers completed one of the most insane passes you will ever see. Rodgers rolled to his left, hurled the ball downfield, and tight end Jared Cook caught the 35-yard pass to put the Packers in place for their game-winning field goal.

You won’t see too many passes like that, but Washington’s Michacl Penix Jr. pulled off something very similar against USC’s wafer-thin defense on Saturday. With 11:54 left in the first half of an eventual 52-42 Washington win, Penix rolled to his left after heading to his right (he’s a lefty thrower) and hit tight end Devin Culp with a throw that had everybody shaking their heads.

We don’t know if this will win any awards, but it may just cement Penix as a first-round prospect in the 2024 NFL draft.

Dillon Johnson erupts for 256 rushing yards as Washington tramples USC

USC could not stop Dillon Johnson and Washington

The game was billed as a matchup between Michael Penix Jr. and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.

Dillon Johnson decided to upstage the quarterbacks and in doing so he led Washington to a 52-42 win over USC in Pac-12 play on Saturday.

Johnson was unstoppable, rushing for 256 yards — 199 before he was touched by a Trojan defender.

He scored four touchdowns, including the one that iced the victory with 2:20 to play. That capped a 9-play, 91-yard drive.

Penix was 22-of-30 for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Williams, whose Trojans suffered their third defeat, threw for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for a TD.

The victory was Washington’s 16th straight.
