Three takeaways from the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer

Let’s dig into the latest from Doctor Strange.

The Marvel train keeps moving, this time with the first official trailer for this spring’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the titular Doctor Strange after making an appearance in the red hot Spider-Man: No Way Home that hit theaters on December 17. This is the second Strange movie, and it will build on storylines from Doctor Strange, Infinity War, Endgame, the Disney+ series WandaVision, and more.

This trailer was included as a post-credit scene in No Way Home, and A LOT happens. Sam Raimi — who directed the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy and several horror flicks — is at the helm of Doctor Strange’s sophomore entry into the MCU, and his impact is felt throughout.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release May 6, 2022.

Check out the trailer, and let’s talk about what to make of this.

The best Agatha winking memes from ‘WandaVision’

Is that a spoiler in the headline? Probably!

Tons of WandaVision spoilers ahead. Don’t read if you’re still catching up on the show.

Disney+’s WandaVision has a lot of standout performances, but series star Kathryn Hahn has emerged as the overwhelming fan favorite through the course of the season. She was delightful when we thought she was just wacky neighbor Agness, but the reveal of her as super villain Agatha Harkness has sent her performance into another sphere. She’s a delightful mix of camp, seriousness and comic book villainy. Plus, it’s allowed audiences to see just what a great performer Hahn is.

Because Hahn is so good—with her facial expressions and body language—one scene in particular as been impossible not to meme. For all the great stuff WandaVision has given us, the Agatha winking meme is at the top of the list.

WandaVision introduced two new super characters, and one more might be on the way

What you need to know about the super hero and the villain that WandaVision introduced.

This article dives into the new characters that make an appearance in “WandaVision,” episode seven, Breaking the Fourth Wall. If you haven’t seen the episode, you should exit this article immediately. Get out of here (but maybe come back)! Spoilers start… now.

The Westview Anomaly has expanded — and so has the Marvel universe. In the seventh episode of “WandaVision,” the show-runners brought two new characters into the mix.

There’s a newly-minted super hero, Monica Rambeau, who is now Photon. In the comics, Rambeau has three different superhero names: Photon, Pulsar and Spectrum. But the most common name was Photon. And there’s a super villain, who had been hiding in plain sight with Wanda and Vision. Agness is Agatha Harkness, as we suspected. For the Marvel fans who read the comics, you were probably yelling: “I told you so!” For the Marvel fans who did not, you’re probably wondering what the heck is going on. I’m here for you.

Let’s dive in. Let’s talk about Photon and Agatha — and let’s talk about why Agatha’s identity reveal may foreshadow the appearances of a new Big Bad, a villain in the same league as Thanos.

3 theories about our biggest burning question in ‘WandaVision’

We try to find answers.

This article addresses a number of important plot points (and ensuing questions that stem from those plot points) from Season 1, Episode 6 of “WandaVision” from Disney+. If you don’t want to read spoilers from that episode, you should close out the browser now.

Pietro Maximoff basically broke through the fourth wall when he turned to Wanda and asked: “How are you doing this?”

That’s what has been on my mind during the first six episodes of WandaVision on Disney+, and, after the most recent episode, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular,” viewers still don’t have an answer.

We now understand — or think we understand — why she’s has created the Westview Anomaly: grief. She’s mourning the loss of Vision (and Pietro and basically everyone she’s ever loved), and has built an alternate reality to cope with the immense loss she suffered. But as Pietro acknowledged, Wanda’s power has rapidly grown beyond anything he’s known.

“It’s a pretty big leap from nightmares and shooting red wiggly-woos out of your hands,” he said, of Wanda controlling everyone in Westview.

Wanda proved to be one of the most powerful Avengers during “Endgame” in her duel with Thanos, a villain that proved a major challenge for Thor, Iron Man and Captain America. The Scarlet Witch seemed to have a significant advantage in a 1-on-1 fight with Thanos in the middle of the final battle sequence — so much so that he orders a massive assault that kills his own soldiers. So we know she’s very powerful and capable of more than “wiggly-woos.”

That said, Wanda’s demonstrations of power grow in scale with each episode. The latest example, of course, is that she makes the Westview Anomaly large enough to swallow the S.W.O.R.D. facility on the edge of the bubble. The last thing that we see is that it’s still growing.

So how did Wanda’s power scale so enormously?

Random thoughts from a Sunday without NFL football

No football on the NFL schedule meant some time to reflect on the San Francisco 49ers, the Disney+ show Wandavision, and the Pro Bowl.

Football season isn’t quite over, but the down week between the conference championships and the Super Bowl became over more down with the cancellation of the Pro Bowl. Or rather, a virtually adapted version of the Pro Bowl.

Nevertheless, it’s the first Sunday since early September that hasn’t been heavily occupied by football, which left me some time to do a little thinking about the 49ers, other football stuff and some non-football stuff.

Here’s some random stream-of-consciousness from Sunday:
