Georgia WR Kearis Jackson recruiting fellow Peach County star to UGA

Georgia football WR Kearis Jackson is recruiting 4-star OG TJ Ferguson to UGA.

A number of Georgia players have been recruiting some of America’s top prep talent to UGA this past week on Twitter.

One player going after a hometown recruit is Georgia wide receiver Kearis Jackson, a former 4-star out of Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Georgia.

Jackson sent a tweet to 2021 4-star offensive guard Terrence “TJ” Ferguson, who attends Jackson’s alma mater of Peach County.

Ferguson (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) ranks as the nation’s No. 48 overall player, No. 3 offensive guard and as the No. 5 player in Georgia.

Right now, 247Sports sees Ferguson winding up at Georgia.

On Tuesday, UGA cornerback Eric Stokes sent a tweet to 2021 4-star cornerback Nyland Green, recruiting him to Georgia.

Stokes is a former 3-star recruit out of Eastside High School in Covington, Georgia. Green, also from Covington, attends Newton High School.

Georgia football misses out on 4-star Suwanee LB Barrett Carter

Georgia football missed out on 4-star OLB Barrett Carter.

On Tuesday, 2021 4-star outside linebacker Barrett Carter announced his commitment on FOX 5 Atlanta.

The Suwanee, Georgia native (North Gwinnett High School) made it known that he would be attending Clemson.

In February, Carter released a list of his top-11 schools and Georgia was included.

Also making the list was Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Georgia Tech, Florida, Duke, Oklahoma and Ohio State. And of course, Clemson.

247Sports has Carter (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) ranked as the nation’s No. 56 player overall, the No. 4 outside linebacker and the No. 6 player in Georgia.

247Sports analysts had been projecting Carter to land at Clemson for the past month.

For the 2021 cycle, Georgia has the nation’s No. 19 ranked class, but is clearly going for quality over quantity.

On 247Sports’ team rankings, Georgia’s seven commitments carry an average rating of 94.54, one of the highest in the country. Tennessee, which has the nation’s second ranked class with 22 commits, has an average player rating of 89.62.

Give Kirby Smart some time and he’ll work his magic. There’s no reason to believe Georgia won’t finish with a top-three class. 247Sports has three of the top-11 prospects in America projected to signing with the Dawgs. And that is not including 5-star quarterback Brock Vandagriff, the No. 12 overall player, who has been committed to Georgia since January.

If UGA was fielding a starting team based on current NFL players, here’s what it would look like

We assembled a starting lineup full of former Georgia football players who are currently on NFL rosters.

Georgia continues to be one of college football’s leading producers of NFL talent, with seven players being taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

At almost every position does Georgia have an NFL star — linebacker and running back being the most notable.

From veteran passer Matthew Stafford to new Falcons back Todd Gurley, to rookie kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, former Georgia Bulldogs look to put up big numbers again in 2020.

We’ve gone through an exercise of picking the best at each position to field a starting team of former Georgia players, all from a current pool of those currently on NFL rosters.

Remember, free agents did not make the team.

So, let’s get it started shall we?

Georgia recruiting: Bulldogs offer 2023 in-state athlete

Georgia football has extended a scholarship to in-state athlete Michael Daugherty.

Over the weekend, Georgia extended a scholarship offer to 2023 athlete Michael Daugherty, out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia.

At 6-foot-0, 170-pounds, Daugherty recently picked up an offer from Texas and Florida, and before that received one from Auburn, Kentucky, Florida State, and others.

Daugherty visited Georgia last season for the Dawgs’ home game vs Notre Dame, and told DawgPost that he had a great time.

“I attended the game against Norte Dame last year and loved the intoxicating atmosphere. It felt like I was getting ready to play.”

With Daugherty’s recruitment being so young, he does not haver national rankings yet on 247Sports.

Georgia football: This George Pickens stat will get you excited about 2020

This stat about Georgia WR George Pickens will get you excited about the UGA football offense in 2020.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF) Georgia wide receiver George Pickens is the only returning receiver with 75 plus targets and zero drops in all of college football.

Pickens was a freshman phenom for the Bulldogs last year. In a run dominant offense, he caught 49 passes for 727 yards and 8 touchdowns, which earned him Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team honors.

A former 5-star recruit from Hoover, Alabama, in the 2019 recruiting class, Pickens was originally committed to the Auburn Tigers until flipping to the Bulldogs on signing day. He was tabbed as the No. 4 receiver in the country and the No. 1 player in Alabama, which helped make the 2019 Georgia class the No. 1 class in the country for the second year in a row.

The sky is the limit for Pickens in 2020. Georgia made two huge off-season moves for the Bulldogs’ passing game with the singing of Wake Forest transfer quarterback Jamie Newman, who is known for a great deep ball and the hiring of offensive coordinator Todd Monken, known for his air-raid passing attack.

DawgNation should be excited for what is to come for this young offense. Injuries and drops plagued the Georgia receiving group in 2019, but Pickens should have some more help around him in 2020. Sophomore receiver Dominick Blaylock looks to return from an ACL tear and Kirby Smart and staff added four 4-star receivers in this year’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Not to mention 5-star 2020 TE signee Darnell Washington (6-8, 261).

Georgia football schedules Conference USA opponent for 2023

Georgia football has scheduled a Conference USA opponent for the 2023 season.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has just added two major SEC matchups to its future schedules.

It was announced Tuesday that UAB will play in Death Valley against LSU in 2022, as well as between the hedges in Athens against UGA in 2023.

Georgia will host UAB on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The Bulldogs open the 2023 season against Oklahoma on the road.

UAB is 0-2 all-time against Georgia. The two programs played in 2003 and 2005.

These are two of the biggest teams in college football to seek out a game against, but Blazers head coach Bill Clark, coming into his seventh year, seems determined to beef up his program’s level of play.

The Blazers have a 34-19 record under Clark, winning the Conference USA Championship two seasons ago in 2018.

Small conference teams adding Power-5 schools to their schedule has always been a theme to boost a school’s program, but these games look more like a statement scheduling for the Blazers.

UAB faced off against Tennessee last year and lost by a score of 30-7.  It lost to Texas A&M the previous year, 41-20, and to Florida the year before that, 36-7.

Clark knows the only way to get his program on the map and step into a higher division is to play better teams, and he’s done that every year.

LB Monty Rice on Georgia allowing 2 rushing TDs in 2019: ‘2many’

Georgia football LB Monty Rice says Georgia allowing 2 rushing TDs in the 2019 season was: ‘2many’, expects more this year.

The Georgia Bulldogs’ defense hunkered down in 2019, producing one of the greatest and most efficient defensive seasons in the school’s history.

Georgia finished last year ranked No. 1 in the country in overall team defense. It allowed just 12.6 points-per-game (1st in CFB), as well as 276 yards-per-game (3rd in CFB).

The Dawgs’ defense allowed two rushing touchdowns for the entire season, the best in all of college football. The next fewest rushing touchdowns allowed was more than double that: Oregon allowed five.

This is about the best you can possibly expect out of a defense playing against such a tough schedule, but for Georgia linebacker Monty Rice, it is two touchdowns too many.

Rice led the Bulldog defense last year with 89 total tackles, 50 of those solo. He also deflected three pass attempts.

Rice is still not satisfied even after a historic season by Kirby Smart’s defense. Georgia can count on veterans Jordan Davis, Malik Herring and Devonte Wyatt to lead, while Nakobe Dean and Nolan Smith are expected to take that next step as sophomores.  Eric Stokes, Richard LeCounte and Tyson Campbell will hold down a talented Dawgs secondary as another year of experience for defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will help out.

According to ESPN’s SP+ ratings, Georgia is expected to be the fourth-best team in college football next season, with the No. 1 defense.

Top Georgia TE picks Vols

2021 3-star TE Miles Campbell committed to Tennessee in an announcement on Twitter. Details here.

The Tennessee Volunteers receive another 3-star commitment, this time from Miles Campbell, one of the top tight ends in Georgia.

All rankings via 247Sports:

This brings the No. 2 ranked Vols 2021 recruiting class to 21 total commits with an average player rating of 0.8962, less than the 0.8992 average of the Vols 2020 No. 10 ranked recruiting class.

Campbell (6-3, 234) plays at South Paulding High School in Douglasville, Georgia, and is ranked as the No. 37 player in Georgia and the No. 20 TE overall. Campbell holds 32 offers, including one from Georgia, Florida, Miami and Auburn, but chose the Vols in an announcement on Twitter.

The Bulldogs currently sit at No. 18 in the 2021 recruiting class rankings with an average player rating of 0.954 and only seven commits. The low number of hard commits so far should tell you that Georgia coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs staff are only getting started — after all, Georgia is coming off of three No. 1 classes in a row.

4-star LB Barrett Carter, a Georgia target, sets commitment date

Barrett Carter, 2021 4-star LB from Suwanee, Georgia sets his commitment date. He is a big UGA football recruiting target.

2021 4-star outside linebacker Barrett Carter (Suwanee, Ga. / North Gwinnett HS) announced on Twitter that he will be committing tomorrow, May 19, at 6:50 p.m. ET on Fox 5 News of Atlanta.

In February, the North Gwinnett High School star released a list of his top-11 schools and Georgia was included.

The list also featured Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Georgia Tech, Florida, Duke, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

247Sports has Carter (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) ranked as the No. 56 player overall, the No. 4 OLB and the No. 6 player in Georgia.

According to the 247Sports Crystall Ball predictions, Carter is predicted to sign with Clemson, but Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs focus on keeping the state’s top talent in Georgia, so don’t be surprised if Carter chooses to wear red tomorrow.
