Friday Night Notes: 5-stars visiting Michigan, Colorado’s QB targets, plus more

These college football recruiting stories comprise this week’s edition of USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

This week, USA TODAY High School Sports writer Tim Weaver focuses on the lead in the 2024 recruiting cycle, which changed hands again this week.

Michigan had been on top, but the recent arrival of QB1 Dylan Raiola, plus a few more three- and four-star commitments this past week, put Georgia at No. 1 nationally.

Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, the Bulldogs’ class of 2024 is now at 270.65 points, more than 20 points ahead of the second-ranked Wolverines (250.12). It will take a lot of work to recover that lead for Jim Harbaugh and the rest of his program. Adding a couple of blue-chip prospects would certainly make a difference, though.

Also included are Colorado’s pair of 2025 offers, four-star ATH Jadan Baugh’s commitment to Arkansas and more football recruiting news from around the USA TODAY Sports college wires.

Friday Night Notes: Dylan Raiola’s recruiting impact, Kentucky’s new QB commit, plus more

This week, USA TODAY High School Sports writer Tim Weaver focuses on the most important position in the game, with three recruits who could soon be making a massive impact at the highest level of college competition.

Starting in Athens, Georgia, the reigning kings of NCAA football pulled off a stunning victory this week. On Monday, the No. 1 quarterback and top-overall recruit in the class of 2024 – Pinnacle (Arizona) QB Dylan Raiola – announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

The best name they could hope to bring in is five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who is committed to Ohio State, where Raiola had once been committed. If he can be convinced to follow Raiola, the Bulldogs will soon get No. 1 talents at the two most-critical offensive positions in the modern game.

Also included are Kentucky’s commitment from four-star QB Cutter Boley, Alabama’s offer to five-star QB Bryce Underwood and more football recruiting news from around the USA TODAY Sports college wires.

Friday Night Notes: Top ’25 QB visits Ohio State, Oregon’s big OT prospect and more

This week, USA TODAY High School Sports writer Tim Weaver focuses on Belleville (Michigan) five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is the No. 1 QB prospect in the class of 2025 and ranks third nationally.

It appears that Underwood’s recruitment might be becoming a battle between two of the most bitter rivals in college football: the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines. Naturally, that rivalry has spilled over into the recruiting race, where the Wolverines and Buckeyes rank first and second respectively in the 2024 cycle.

Obviously, landing a rare talent like Underwood at the game’s most-important position would be a massive win for one Big Ten power over the other. Last weekend, Underwood visited the Ohio State campus after participating in the Under Armour All-American Camp Series in Columbus.

Also included are the Oregon Ducks as the favorite to land massive top-three offensive tackle, along with five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman locking in visits to a pair of Tigers: LSU and Clemson. And, of course, included is a whip-around of the College Wires sites for the latest stories.

College football recruiting watchlist: USA TODAY Sports College Wires weigh in on class of 2023

Rick Suter recently turned to the USA TODAY Sports College Wire writers who will be following the top recruits at Power Five schools for some feedback.

The 2023 recruiting class has been in the books for a couple of months now but it is never too early to take a look at how some of the top players from the upcoming crop will fit in with their new schools.

USA TODAY High School Sports’ Rick Suter recently turned to the USA TODAY Sports College Wire writers who will be following the top recruits at Power Five schools in the SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC, and beyond in 2023.

His question was simple: Who are we most excited to watch from the Class of 2023? As in, which player do we think will have the largest impact among their class peers?

Here’s what we had to say.

Friday Night Notes: TCU’s new QB, TJ Moore’s top 13 schools and more

TCU’s latest commitment headlines this week’s USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

This week, USA TODAY High School Sports writer Tim Weaver focuses on the TCU Horned Toads, who made it all the way to the national championship this past season, only to get blown out by Georgia. If they intend to return to the big stage, they must retool at several key positions this offseason. With starting quarterback Max Duggan having declared for the 2023 NFL draft, they’ll definitely need to include a QB on the list. Help is on the way, though.

On Thursday, Aledo (Texas) three-star quarterback Hauss Hajny announced his commitment to the Horned Frogs.

Hejny (5-foot-11-inches, 185 pounds) also had offers from Duke, Austin Peay, Baylor, Cal, Campbell, Houston, Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Utah, UTSA and West Virginia.

Friday Night Notes: Duce Robinson chooses USC, Winston Watkins Jr. wins MVP and more

The Trojans’ latest commitment headlines this week’s USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

This week, USA TODAY High School Sports writer Tim Weaver focuses on the previously top remaining undecided recruit in the class of 2023 and his heralded decision. After months of speculation and anticipation, Pinnacle (Arizona) five-star tight end prospect Duce Robinson announced his commitment to the USC Trojans. Robinson did it by sharing a slick and touching video on social media.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 225-pound multi-sport athlete has drawn comparisons to Ravens Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews and was extremely popular as a recruit. He had offers from 28 other schools, with Georgia and Texas being the other top contenders for his commitment.

Robinson told ESPN that USC made the most sense for him.

“It kind of just felt like whichever one made the most sense, kind of came down to those three schools between Georgia, USC and Texas, I had great relationships with all those staffs and I’ve been talking to all those staffs for multiple years now. But at the end of the day, we kind of just had to sit down and discuss the school that was going to make the most the most sense to us.”
