WATCH: Tulane RB Tyjae Spears makes defender look silly with ridiculous route

Tyjae Spears shows off his route-running ability at the Senior Bowl, leaving a defender looking more than a little lost

I dare you to find anyone having a better week of practice at the Senior Bowl than Tulane running back Tyjae Spears.

The small but explosive playmaker has been a nonstop highlights reel all week in Mobile, breaking off big runs and showing off his versatility whenever possible.

During Thursday’s practice, Spears put his route-running ability on display, leaving his defender looking dazed and confused as he raced for the end zone.

Don’t be surprised if Spears’ impressive performance this week has him sliding into the Day 2 conversation.

5 players who stood out on day 2 of the Senior Bowl

We highlight five of the players who stood out on day two of Senior Bowl practice. Which of these players could help the Commanders?

On Tuesday, one of the highlights from practice at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl was the sheer size of Ohio State offensive tackle Dawand Jones. At 6-foot-8, 375 pounds, Jones had the largest wingspan measured in the history of the annual draft showcase. He was dominant on the field, too.

Jones stood out on Wednesday, too, but he was far from the only one. While there is a lot of focus on the quarterbacks and skill players, the line drills usually draw the biggest crowds. NFL teams want close-up looks to see which offensive linemen can hold their own in pass protection and which defensive linemen win more battles than they lose.

Which players stood out on Wednesday’s second day of practice? We pick five players who stood out and could be of interest to the Washington Commanders.

Tulane running back Tyjae Spears is showing off his explosiveness and big-play ability this week in Mobile

If you’re looking for an early winner at this year’s Senior Bowl practices, Tulane running back Tyjae Spears is already making a strong case.

The undersized but explosive playmaker has been making the most of his trip to Mobile, showing off his big-play ability during this year’s all-star practices:

Senior Bowl notebook: Day 1 observations and first impressions

Here are a few of the takeaways from the first day of practices of the American and National teams

The weather could not have been nicer for Tuesday’s Senior Bowl practice sessions here in Mobile, Alabama. It was a picture-perfect day to fire up the practices for the 2023 edition of the prestigious all-star game and unofficial NFL draft mecca.

My focus on the first day was on the periphery of the formation, the offensive skill position players and the secondary and linebackers on defense.

Here are a few of the takeaways from the practices of the American and National teams out at the University of South Alabama stadium.

Saints takeaways from Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy’s opening press conference

Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy’s opening press conference included several comments and observations that could be relevant for New Orleans Saints fans:

We’ve officially started the long run up to the 2023 NFL draft, with the pro football world descending on Mobile, Ala. this week for a whirlwind of practices, interviews, and meetings all centered on 125 prospects competing at the Senior Bowl college all-star game.

Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy kicked off the event with a Tuesday morning press conference in which he scouted out the strengths and weaknesses of the 2023 draft class and shared some nuggets that could be important for New Orleans Saints fans. Here’s what we learned:

3 players we’re watching at the first Senior Bowl practice

The #Saints are in Mobile attending this year’s #SeniorBowl. Here are three prospects we’ll be watching closely during the first practice, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

“The draft starts in Mobile,” as they say. The New Orleans Saints join the rest of the NFL at the premier collegiate all-star game event of the year, the Senior Bowl. During this time scouts from all 32 NFL teams will be able to watch three days of practice and a closing game featuring some of the top talent in this year’s NFL draft. Additionally, they will be able to begin their draft prospect vetting process with injuries and other information-gathering opportunities.

For the media, we get to enjoy the loud whispers of things that could be formulating around the league and a fun practice process throughout which players have a real chance to impact their draft stock. Watching this year’s practice week with a Saints lens is a little bit different than in previous years. This season, the quarterbacks step into a larger focus along with more offensive talent that would make any Saints fan excited about what is ahead. With that in mind, here are three players we’ll be watching closely at the 2023 Senior Bowl’s first practice.

7-round mock draft for the Saints, with a Cardinals-Sean Payton trade proposal

Here’s a new 7-round NFL mock draft for the Saints, with a Cardinals-Sean Payton trade proposal and a focus on prospects competing at the Senior Bowl:

Last week we explored how a New Orleans Saints mock draft could be impacted by trading Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos. This time around we’re proposing a similar trade with the Arizona Cardinals, and then going through all seven rounds to explore various prospects who may be on the Saints’ radar.

We’re also trying to put an emphasis on players who will be competing at the Senior Bowl practices and all-star game this week, where multiple Saints coaches are going to be in attendance getting hands-on experience. That limited our player pool a bit, but it ended up highlighting some really interesting talents looking to go pro. Let’s get to it:

Lions 2023 draft: Initial scouting impressions of some Senior Bowl offense prospects

With an eye for how they might fit with the Detroit Lions, here are some early scouting observations on some Senior Bowl offensive prospects

The annual scouting extravaganza that is the Senior Bowl is kicking off this week. Over 120 NFL draft prospects will take to the practice field at the University of South Alabama in Mobile in what amounts to a lengthy job interview in front of NFL GMs, coaches, scouts and media.

Here are a few of the offensive players slated to be in Mobile who I’ve dove into a little in advance of the practices, which kick off on Tuesday. With an eye for how they might fit with the Detroit Lions, here are some early observations and thoughts.

Browns revamp defensive line and add assets in 2023 NFL Mock Draft

Browns trade back for more assets and target a fix for a defensive tackle.

It is rare for Cleveland Browns fans to all agree on something but most agree something needs to be done about the defensive tackle. Michigan’s Mazi Smith may just fit the bill as the team could likely attack the position both through free agency and the draft to revamp the entire position room. In this 2023 NFL Mock Draft for the first time I have included trades to add more picks later to offset the massive contract extensions, the team has signed.

The Trade: Browns trade pick 42 to the Seattle Seahawks for pick 52 and a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After making this trade it was clear it was time to address the defensive tackle position. This mock draft was done using the simulator from NFL mock draft database.
