Saints mock draft: Trading up for QB after missing on Derek Carr

What if the Saints can’t land Derek Carr? Here’s how they can trade up for a top quarterback prospect in our 7-round mock draft, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

While the potential for Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to end up in New Orleans continues to pick up steam, it’s important to remember that nothing is guaranteed. Much like last year’s Deshaun Watson pursuit, the Saints could wind up empty-handed at quarterback while Carr agrees to be traded or agrees to free agency terms with another team. If that happens, the Saints would likely have to turn back to Andy Dalton, the passer that started the majority of the team’s games in 2022.

If that were to happen, New Orleans would be justified in being aggressive in this year’s draft in order to land a potential quarterback of the future. Now that they are back in the first round after trading the rights of former head coach Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos, there are a lot of possibilities open. They could stand pat at No. 29 and grab a second-tier passer early to have the benefit of a fifth-year option on that player. They could wait around until the second round and select a signal-caller at pick 40. Or, if they really liked someone higher up in the draft, they could make a bold move to grab them.

That’s what we did in this seven-round mock draft. In this simulation, the Saints do not land Carr or any other big-ticket quarterback on the market. Thus, they re-sign Dalton and look to the draft to grab a prospect from a program they love that could be ready to start by 2024, if not sooner.

Vikings 2023 7 Round NFL Mock Draft 3.0: Man coverage cornerback

The Vikings stay home at all five picks in the latest seven-round Vikings mock draft

The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of different ways they can go in the NFL draft. There will be some discussion on what needs are most important but the Vikings can address most of them through both free agency and the NFL draft.

In the first mock draft that we did, the Vikings took a cornerback at 23rd overall and took a wide receiver in the second with a trade down. This one, we stayed at each pick and took good players that filled needs.

10 players who raised their stock during Senior Bowl week

It was a good week for the offensive line in the 2023 Senior Bowl.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the unofficial beginning of draft season. We know which underclassmen have declared, and with only one NFL game left, 30 other NFL teams have their eyes on the draft.

Last week, some of the 2023 NFL draft’s top prospects converged in Mobile, Alabama, with all 32 NFL teams present.

While this wasn’t a standout quarterback class on the field in Mobile, other positions did stand out. Most specifically, it was a good week for teams that needed offensive line help.

The Washington Commanders need offensive line help as much as anyone in the NFL. The Commanders could upgrade up to four positions in 2023. That doesn’t mean Washington is looking for four new starters, but the Commanders will be active in upgrading their offensive line this offseason.

Other positions of interest for Washington include cornerback and linebacker.

We name 10 players who saw their stock rise after their week at the Senior Bowl. For the most part, we’ll focus on positions of interest to the Commanders.

As we break this down, the criteria will revolve around consistency, which was demonstrated day in and day out in Mobile, Alabama.

During practice, there were a lot of players that stood out, but 10 stood out more than the rest. Here are my top 10 players from practice this week.

5 players who saw their stock rise after a week at the Senior Bowl

Several players have seen their stocks rise this week at the Senior Bowl.

The first major event of the draft season is wrapping up as Senior Bowl practices were held this week in Mobile Alabama. Some players have seen their stock rise and others have seen it fall but overall it was a good week. There are several players the Cleveland Browns should have on their board in April that saw their stock rise this week.

Overall the offensive lines seemed to play better than the defensive lines with standouts on both sides. The wide receiver group overall wasn’t as impressive as some had hoped they would be in Mobile.

Here’s a look at five players who stood out the most this week.
