Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners 73-0 win over Arkansas State

The Oklahoma Sooners jumped out to a huge lead early and kept the foot on the gas in their 73-0 win and social media was buzzing.

It couldn’t have gone any better for the Oklahoma Sooners even if you’d scripted it.

The Sooners jumped on the Arkansas State Red Wolves with a masterful opening drive and didn’t look back, running up the score for a 73-0 shutout win.

They received plays from a number of players as they emptied the bench. Brent Venables said 87 players got on the field in the game. The coaching staff bragged about the improved competitive depth this offseason, and that was evident. The Sooners were able to keep the pressure on the Red Wolves throughout.

Ten players caught a pass and eight players scored a touchdown.

They scored 45 in the first half and 28 more in the second half. The defense allowed 208 total yards — 4.2 yards per play. The offense racked up 642 total yards.

They’ll certainly see tougher matchups down the road, but it was a strong start to the season for the Sooners. Here’s how social media reacted to the Sooners 73-0 Week 1 win over Arkansas State.

Social media reactions to Commanders’ preseason finale

Which players impressed Washington fans on Saturday night?

Mercifully, the NFL preseason is over outside of one game on Sunday night. The Washington Commanders put a bow on their preseason with Saturday’s 21-19 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Washington finished the preseason with a 3-0 record and now turns its attention to Week 1 and the Arizona Cardinals.

Jacoby Brissett started the game for the Commanders, playing into the second quarter. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 96 yards, with his final pass going for a 39-yard touchdown to rookie wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley.

Outside of three offensive line starters, the Commanders sat the remainder of their starting players.

Tinsley, along with quarterback Jake Fromm and running back Jaret Patterson, were just some of Washington’s standouts from the final week of the preseason.

How did Twitter — or X — feel about the Commanders’ performance against the Bengals? Here are some of the top reactions from across social media.

Here’s how social media reacted to the Colts’ preseason win over the Bears.

The Indianapolis Colts rallied for a 24-17 preseason win over the Chicago Bears at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night.

Without the starters on the field, quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger were strong leading the offense to a comeback victory in the only home game of the preseason.

Social media reacts to Commanders naming Sam Howell the starting quarterback

No surprise. Everyone is happy that Sam Howell is officially “QB1.” Of course, fans of other teams chime in, too.

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera officially named Sam Howell as the starting quarterback Friday morning.

The move isn’t a surprise and has been in the works for months. Rivera wanted Howell to earn the position, which Howell has done with a strong offseason, training camp and first preseason game. Howell is also coming off back-to-back solid performances in the joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens.

The move comes ahead of Washington’s second preseason game on Monday against the Ravens.

After Rivera named Howell the starting quarterback, we took to Twitter — or X — to see how everyone reacted.

Social media reacts to Commanders/Ravens joint practices

Social media weighs in on the joint practices between the Ravens and Commanders, including the fights.

It was a fun two days for fans of the Washington Commanders and the Baltimore Ravens. Instead of fans searching for clips of their favorite players making plays on teammates in glorified walkthroughs, you had the Commanders battling the Ravens in 11-on-11 drills and 1-on-1s.

There were plenty of highlights from the previous two days of joint practices. Many of those comments center around the multiple fights on Tuesday. From the Ravens’ perspective, a backup wide receiver slamming a 170-pound cornerback from behind is heroic.

And from the other point of view, rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes isn’t going to take —- from anyone.

Here are some of the best reactions from social media regarding the Commanders and Ravens’ joint practices.

How Twitter reacted to Anthony Richardson’s debut

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Anthony Richardson’s preseason debut.

The Indianapolis Colts finally gave us a glimpse at the shiny, new rookie quarterback in Anthony Richardson, who made his preseason debut as the starter Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.

Though Richardson was only on the field for three drives and 29 snaps, which encompassed the entire first quarter, it was exciting to see the future of the franchise get some work in.

The No. 4 overall pick threw an interception on his third pass attempt of the game, but he bounced back nicely on his next two drives, showing impressive poise and the ability to turn the page after a mistake.

Twitter reacts to Commanders’ 17-15 preseason win over Browns

It was mostly a positive place.

Josh Harris was present for his first game as the Washington Commanders new owner in Friday’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns. His minority partners, Mitchell Rales and Mark Ein, were also on hand to support the team all three loved as kids.

While preseason results don’t matter, the new ownership group did get to see the Commanders come away with a 17-15 win over Cleveland. There were encouraging performances from multiple young players, including quarterback Sam Howell.

For years, monitoring social media during and after a Washington game could be interesting — and usually not in a positive way. However, there’s a new vibe around the Commanders.

Social media reacts: Ace pitcher Kelly Maxwell transfers to the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners made another splash in the transfer portal, adding Oklahoma State ace Kelly Maxwell. Here’s how social media reacted.

What was reported early Thursday morning became official when Kelly Maxwell updated her Instagram profile to include the Oklahoma Sooners.

Maxwell crossed the Bedlam lines to join the Crimson and Cream, but she joins a Sooners team looking to extend its national championship streak to four in 2024.

She’s been one of the best pitchers in college softball for the last several years. Maxwell won Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2022 and has been named Pitcher of the Week six times.

The former Oklahoma State Cowgirls ace is capable of carrying a team to the NCAA tournament and Women’s College World Series. However, she joins a team that looks stacked in the circle.

Oklahoma returns Nicole May and Kierston Deal, who were key to the Sooners leading the nation in ERA in 2023. Oklahoma also has highly touted S.J. Guerin, who was a true freshman in 2023. The Sooners added Peytn Monticelli and Karlie Keeney to give them arguably the deepest roster of pitchers in the country.

It’s a huge addition that continues to solidify the Sooners as the frontrunners for the national title in 2024. They’ll be challenged along the way, but Maxwell’s addition gives Oklahoma another fantastic arm to work with.
