Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ruled out vs. Lions

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ruled out vs. Lions

The Jaguars will be without Trevor Lawrence again in Week 11, as Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson ruled the starting quarterback out against the Detroit Lions before practice on Wednesday.

Lawrence also missed Jacksonville’s Week 10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, after a week of limited practice participation due to a left shoulder injury suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9.

“Trevor will be out, we decided this week,” Pederson told reporters Wednesday. “He’s getting close, but to make sure that — again, you guys know how I am with injuries, we don’t want to put a player out there that’s not 100%. So, we’re going to rest him one more week.”

Lawrence is reportedly nursing a “significant” AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder.

Lawrence has completed 168-of-274 (61.3%) passes for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine starts this season. He has also rushed for three touchdowns.

Pederson acknowledged the benefit of Jacksonville’s bye week following the Jaguars’ matchup with the Lions, effectively giving Lawrence a three-week recovery window given his light workload in practice last week.

That said, Pederson did not guarantee Lawrence would be ready to go come the Jaguars’ Week 13 home bout with the Houston Texans.

“It’s still a question mark. But, you know, I’m optimistic,” Pederson said.

Jacksonville native Mac Jones will start against the Lions, in Lawrence’s place for the second consecutive week. The Jaguars’ backup quarterback completed 14-of-22 passes for 111 yards with two interceptions and a fumble against the Vikings.

Pederson updates Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, OL Ezra Cleveland

Pederson updates Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, OL Ezra Cleveland

The Jaguars will monitor the statuses of a pair of injured starters, quarterback Trevor Lawrence and left guard Ezra Cleveland, throughout Week 11 as Jacksonville prepares to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson considered it “hard to tell” if Lawrence, who missed Jacksonville’s Week 10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a reportedly “significant” AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, will be able to play against the Lions.

“We’ve still got a couple of days. I don’t have any definite answers right now,” Pederson said about Lawrence.

Pederson added that Lawrence has not spoken with the Jaguars about undergoing surgery on his injury, which was called “possible” by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday.

“There’s not been a talk on surgery, so I don’t know where the surgery talk is coming from,” said Pederson. “Nothing like that.”

Lawrence has completed 168-of-274 (61.3%) passes for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine starts this season. He has also rushed for three touchdowns.

Cleveland hurt his ankle in the Jaguars’ Week 8 loss against the Green Bay Packers and has been sidelined ever since. He missed Jacksonville’s last two games and has not practiced since Oct. 25.

Pederson suggested Cleveland could return to practice on Wednesday in an unclear capacity.

“As of Monday, today, tomorrow — he’s going to get some rest on it again and he should be out there at practice and maybe get a few snaps,” Pederson said. “We’ll see where he’s at.”

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Minnesota Vikings: Key matchups

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Minnesota Vikings: Key matchups

The Jacksonville Jaguars enter Week 10 coming off another tough loss on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles and will look to pull off an upset home victory against the 6-2 Minnesota Vikings.

Like last week, the Jaguars will be without some key players, including franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has been nursing a left shoulder injury this week. Losing Lawrence will be a hard blow for a team that has been relatively competitive largely because of his play in recent weeks.

However, there is a path to success that Jacksonville can follow. The Vikings do not have many weaknesses, but there are some areas the Jaguars can take advantage of to pave the road to an upset.

Jaguars Wire breaks down the key matchups that could be vital in ensuring win No. 3 for the Jaguars against the Vikings.

Jacksonville’s run game vs. Minnesota’s run defense

The Vikings own the NFL’s No. 2 rushing defense this season in yards allowed and have allowed the fewest rushing expected points added (EPA) this season. The Jaguars have found success on the ground this season and with Lawrence out, they will have to lean on their new star tailback Tank Bigsby.

A productive day from Bigbsy might be Jacksonville’s biggest key to victory this weekend. He is a tough runner to bring down, forcing a missed tackle on nearly 38 percent of his rushes, according to Next Gen Stats.

That’s good enough for the third-highest rate in football. Minnesota has struggled to tackle in space this season at the fifth-highest rate.

Bigsby has the skill set to handle a hefty workload on a moment’s notice. His downhill rushing ability and shiftiness in space make him a handful to bring down.

To add pressure for Minnesota, Bigsby can be a home run-hitting running back with his second-level explosiveness and quickness in the open field. It won’t be an easy go-around but this is strength vs. strength in this weekend’s matchup.

Jacksonville DE Josh Hines-Allen vs. Minnesota LT Cam Robinson

This matchup could be personal for both players. It was only a few weeks ago that Robinson was manning Lawrence’s blindside.

But after Vikings star left tackle Christian Darrisaw went down with a season-ending injury, they acquired Robinson and a conditional 2026 seventh-round draft choice in exchange for a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick.

The former Jaguar had an up-and-down career in North Florida. Robinson was playing steady football in pass protection with just a 7.1 percent pressure rate before he was traded. But he struggled against Indianapolis in his Vikings debut and is now tasked with slowing down Josh Hines-Allen for the first time as an opponent.

Jacksonville’s cornerstone pass rusher is tied with teammate Travon Walker for the most pressures on the team with 34. He’s as good as they come coming off the edge and is likely to spend most of his snaps lining up at right defensive end for his one-on-one matchup with Robinson.

Hines-Allen versus Robinson in the trenches is a key individual matchup that fans should have a keen eye on, one that could be a deciding factor in this weekend’s game.

Jacksonville QB Mac Jones vs. Minnesota pass defense

Losing a talent like Lawrence for just one or any number of games is a blow for the Jaguars. He’s the franchise quarterback and has played sound football for most of the season.

But now, it’s time for former Pro Bowler and once-surmised New England franchise signal-caller Mac Jones to make his starting debut with his hometown team.

Jones never proved to be the prolific quarterback from the incredible 2020 Alabama national championship roster in the NFL. More of a game-manager, a heavy dose of the run game and play-action should allow Jones to be fairly smooth sailing if things go according to plan.

However, the Jaguars might miss the vertical element that has been a staple of their offense with Jones under-center this weekend.

Jones will face a defense that is second in the NFL in blitz rate and has used split-safety coverage the most of any team this season. Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores has them playing some sound football and will pose a challenge for Jones this weekend.

Yet, there is a path where Jones performs well enough to put Jacksonville in a spot to pull off the upset. If he protects the ball and finds answers against pressure while giving receivers like Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington chances for run-after-catch plays, the Jaguars will be one step closer to victory.

Report: Jaguars starting QB Trevor Lawrence out vs. Vikings

Report: Jaguars starting QB Trevor Lawrence out vs. Vikings

Jaguars starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been ruled out of Jacksonville’s Week 10 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported early Sunday.

Rapoport noted that Lawrence is nursing a “significant” AC joint sprain in his left, non-throwing shoulder, suffered in Jacksonville’s Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Surgery is possible for Lawrence, sources say, though the current plan is for rest and rehab,” Rapoport wrote. “While the team has called him day to day, week-to-week is probably a more accurate description. Regardless of whether Lawrence plays moving forward, the injury is expected to limit him for the next several weeks.”

Jacksonville called Lawrence questionable for the game on its Friday injury report after his daily limited practice participation this week.

However, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson expressed doubt about Lawrence’s status on Friday, although he added he does not currently view Lawrence as a candidate to be placed on the injured reserve.

“He’s been very limited all week. It is trending, obviously, in a way that’s probably to not playing or leaning towards not playing,” Pederson said.

Lawrence, who signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension with Jacksonville this offseason, has completed 168-of-274 (61.3%) passes for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine starts this season.

Since being selected No. 1 overall by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL draft, Lawrence has thrown for 13,774 yards with 69 touchdowns, 45 interceptions and a 63.4% completion rate. He has added 1,077 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing.

Mac Jones will start in place of Lawrence at quarterback on Sunday. The Jaguars acquired the Jacksonville native, who played high school football for The Bolles School, from the New England Patriots via trade in March.

Jones has completed six-of-nine passes for 28 yards in relief of Lawrence this season and 66.1% of his career throws for 8,946 yards with 46 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, adding 327 yards and one touchdown rushing.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence,” Pederson said about Jones on Friday. “He’s somebody that prepares extremely hard, extremely well. He’s a smart kid. You go back to even some of the preseason stuff and what he did then, as far as preparation and all that and how he played. He’s going to be fine.

“He’ll be excited. Home game, home crowd, home fans, his people, so to speak. But [I have] a lot of confidence in him.”

Jaguars starting left guard Ezra Cleveland will miss his second consecutive game after injuring his ankle in Week 8.

Pederson shared his belief that starting wide receiver Gabe Davis will be available after missing Week 9 with a shoulder injury.

Pederson also noted his expectation for wide receiver Devin Duvernay and safety Andrew Wingard to be activated from the injured reserve and play against Minnesota, barring any setbacks.

Trevor Lawrence’s status is unknown for Week 10 matchup with Vikings

The Jaguars could be without their star QB on Sunday.

The Vikings are set to travel to Jacksonville for their next game, but the game could get slightly easier if star quarterback Trevor Lawrence is unable to go. Head coach Doug Pederson was noncommittal about whether Lawrence would play against the Vikings on Wednesday. The former Clemson star was a limited participant in the Jaguars’ practice.

But on Thursday morning, Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network reported it’s unlikely Lawrence will suit up against the Vikings. Lawrence has been battling a left shoulder but has been playing through it. Rapoport added that while surgery is not scheduled for Lawrence, several options remain possible for the Jaguars’ franchise quarterback

The 2-7 Jaguars’ backup would be former New England starter Mac Jones. The Patriots attempted to make the former Alabama quarterback their franchise quarterback, but due to a lack of talent in New England and Jones’s inconsistency, the Patriots moved on.

Jacksonville could be major underdogs come Sunday if Lawrence doesn’t play.

Will Trevor Lawrence play this week? Injury update for Jaguars QB

Will Trevor Lawrence play for the Jags against the Vikings?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had a brutal season. It won’t get easier in Week 10 if Doug Pederson’s words on Friday become true on Sunday.

Trevor Lawrence injury update

Trevor Lawrence has taken a beating and its toll has finally been taken on the quarterback. Pederson says signs point to Lawrence not being able to go in Week 10 against the Minnesota Vikings.

How long has Trevor Lawrence been out?

Lawrence has not missed any time … yet. His left shoulder injury apparently will change that.

“Obviously, we’ve got one more day today. He’s been very limited all week. It is trending, obviously, in a way that’s probably to not playing or leaning towards not playing,” Pederson said.

Jaguars quarterback depth chart

Lawrence is the No. 1 QB in Jacksonville. Behind him are Mac Jones and recently re-signed C.J. Beathard.

Who to take in Week 10 in your NFL survivor pool

Breaking down the best strategies of how to win your NFL survivor pool as the season continues into Week 10.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

It was an easy week to pick favorites in Week 9 of the NFL regular season. We had just one underdog win outright, as the Carolina Panthers (+7) toppled the New Orleans Saints 23-22.

Thankfully, we normally pick against the Panthers, but there are two reasons we didn’t. One, we already played the Saints in Week 1 against them in New Orleans, and two, Carolina has been showing some signs of life lately.

In Week 9 of the USA TODAY NFL Survivor Pool contest, there were 8 more players who hit the exit doors, leaving us with 33 of the 10,357 players still alive. Surprisingly, one person elected to take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night at Arrowhead. They’re gone, and another player back the Houston Texans, while 6 others had the Saints.

As far as we were concerned, we backed the Chiefs for that Monday night game against the Bucs, and Kansas City held off Tampa Bay 30-24 in overtime.

In the other game, we selected the Philadelphia Eagles as a 7.5-point favorite over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was 22-0 at one point, but the Jags stormed back for the backdoor cover with 4:04 to go in regulation, falling 28-23.

Looking ahead to Week 10, we have 7 teams favored by 6 or more points on Sunday. The New York Giants are one of those sides, taking on the aforementioned Panthers at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday.

  • Line: Vikings -7 / Moneyline (ML): Vikings -350 | Jaguars +260

The Minnesota Vikings (6-2) travel to meet the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-7) on Sunday at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.

Surprisingly, we haven’t played the Vikings with either of our 2 options so far this season. That likely has to do with the fact Minnesota has been favored by 2.5 or fewer points in 3 of its 4 games as a favorite, while serving as an underdog in the other games. It was a 5.5-point favorite last week, largest of the season, against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football. Minnesota covered in a 21-13 victory.

After serving as a limited participant in practice Thursday, reports surfaced that Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is nursing a left shoulder injury, and he is unlikely to play.

Conclusion: MINNESOTA IS MY TOP SURVIVOR PLAY IN WEEK 10.

Who they play: Home vs. Tennessee Titans – 4:05 p.m. (FOX)

  • Line: Chargers -7.5 / ML: Chargers -375 | Titans +300

The LA Chargers (5-3) are heavy favorites against the last-place Tennessee Titans (2-6).

Tennessee did pick up a win in Week 9, but it was against the New England Patriots in OT, 20-17.

Los Angeles spanked the Cleveland Browns 27-10 on the road, and it has won the past 2 games by an average margin of 17.5 points. At home, the Bolts have won 2 of 3 games this season, with the lone loss to the unbeaten Chiefs.

Report: Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ‘unlikely’ to play vs. Vikings

Report: Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ‘unlikely’ to play vs. Vikings

The Jaguars are “unlikely” to have starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence available for Jacksonville’s Week 10 home matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Lawrence injured his left, non-throwing shoulder in the second quarter of Jacksonville’s Week 9, 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He began Week 10 as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday.

Rapoport later responded to a rumor that Lawrence’s injury required surgery, saying no such operation was scheduled but that it remains an option as the quarterback nurses his shoulder.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said before practice on Wednesday that he was uncertain about Lawrence’s status for Sunday.

“Can’t answer that. Can’t answer that today,” Pederson stated. “Not sitting here Wednesday, no.”

If Lawrence can not go against the Vikings, it will mark the second missed game of his four-season NFL career. He missed Jacksonville’s Week 17 matchup with Carolina in 2023 after suffering multiple injuries in the weeks leading up, including a concussion and a hurt ankle, shoulder and knee.

Lawrence has completed 168-of-274 (61.3%) of his passes for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. He has rushed 25 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

Mac Jones, who Jacksonville traded for from New England this offseason, would start against Minnesota if Lawrence is unable to play.

Jones has completed six-of-nine passes for 28 yards in two appearances this season.
