2022 Travelers Championship best value prop bets for 3 golfers

3 golfers to profit on at the 2022 Travelers Championship, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., will host the 2022 Travelers Championship, which tees off Thursday. Below, we tab the best value prop bets on a trio of golfers among the 2022 Travelers Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

The Travelers has a 156-golfer field with notables including Scottie Scheffler (No. 1 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings), Justin Thomas (2022 PGA Championship winner and No. 3), Rory McIlroy (No. 4), Jordan Spieth (2017 Travelers Championship winner and No. 29) and many more.

TPC River Highlands has been the Travelers Championship’s venue since 1984 and is the second-most attended PGA Tour event annually behind Phoenix’s Waste Management Open.

The course is playing at 6,841 yards, par 70. There’s a cut after 36 holes to the top 65 players with ties and there’s an $8.3 million prize pool.

Jordan Spieth

Despite not being in the mix on Sunday at any of the 3 majors this season, Spieth is playing good golf entering the Travelers. He’s 7th in strokes gained (SG): Total, 1st in SG: Tee-to-green and around-the-green (ARG) and 9th in SG: Approach over his last 24 rounds (per FantasyNational.com).

His SG: ARG is notable since TPC River Highlands is one of the toughest courses on tour ARG (per DataGolf.com). Also, Spieth is 6th in this field at Par 4 Efficiency: 400-450 (according to FantasyNational.com), which factors since 8 of the par 4s at this course are within that yardage.

Finally, Spieth can be more aggressive off-the-tee (OTT) since TPC River Highlands is one of the shorter courses on tour and he is an elite scrambler. Spieth is one of the few golfers in the world who can score birdies on holes even after getting into trouble.

  • $12.50 for winner (+2000) to earn a $250 profit
  • $12.50 for top-5 finish (+480) to earn a $60 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+230) to earn a $57.50 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+130) to earn a $130 profit

Mito Pereira

Pereira is going for a bargain because of his 4th-round choke job at the 2022 PGA Championship that cost him his 1st PGA Tour victory and major. But, Pereira has the best scoring average on tour at Par 4 Efficiency: 400-450 and 7th in greens in regulation.

Also, Pereira is 3rd on my custom stat model (courtesy of FantasyNational.com) over the past 36 rounds. He ranks 1st in SG: Ball striking, 5th in SG: OTT, 6th in proximity: 125-150 and 1st in opportunities gained over that span.

We are getting a good price on Pereira since he just missed the cut at last week’s U.S. Open. However, Pereira was on the cut line at 4-over par and caught a bad weather draw in the first 2 rounds. Prior to the U.S. Open, Pereira finished in the top 20 in 5 of 6 tourneys.

  • $12.50 for winner (+4000) to earn a $500 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+400) to earn a $100 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+220) to earn a $220 profit

More Travelers Championship coverage:

Webb Simpson

Let’s take a flyer on Simpson despite him not being in the best of form because TPC River Highlands fits Simpson’s game very well.

Simpson has the best SG: Total over his last 50 rounds at similar courses to TPC River Highlands built into my model, which includes TPC Deere Run, TPC Potomac and TPC Twin Cities.

Also, TPC River Highlands is a Pete Dye design and Simpson is SG: Total on Pete Dye golf courses over his last 50 rounds and 4th in SG: Total on courses shorter than 7,200 yards.

  • $12.50 for winner (+6000) to earn a $750 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+260) to earn a $260 profit
