Arkansas to host former teammate of Tavian Josenberger

Josenberger and Jack Wagner were dynamite together at Kansas and could be at Arkansas.

It’s unclear how many holes in the lineup Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn will have to fill this offseason. But he knows it’s going to be more than a few.

So, in the way teams do nowadays, the transfer portal will hold some keys.

Arkansas is going to host Tarleton State utility player Jack Wagner next week to help fill a void. Wagner slugged almost .700 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI last year.

It was his one season at Tarleton State after he transferred from Kansas. With the Jayhawks he played with Arkansas outfielder Tavian Josenberger. Josenberger left KU for the Razorbacks and just finished his first season in Fayetteville.

Josenberger and Wagner could play again together in 2024 for the Diamond Hogs. But Josenberger is also listed as a Top-150 prospect for the MLB Draft this summer, pointing back to the issue at the top.

Also expected to leave are outfielder Jace Bohrofen, infielder Caleb Cali and will lose to outfielder Jared Wegner, first baseman Brady Slavens and infielder Harold Coll.

What can transfer WR Jordan Anthony bring to Texas A&M in 2023?

Former Kentucky WR Jordan Anthony has transferred to Texas A&M, and for the 2023 season, Anthony brings world-class speed to the gridiron.

The Aggies received some fantastic news on Friday afternoon as former Kentucky wide receiver Jordan Anthony, who, by Track & Field standards, is one of the fastest men in the country, is coming off of a forgettable freshman season in which he failed to see the field. Yet, his instant downfield threat potential was too intriguing to pass up for head coach Jimbo Fisher.

The Aggies are returning one of the more elite starting wide receiver units in the country in 2023. However, depth and a genuine deep receiving threat outside of sophomore Evan Stewart were currently missing from the roster after former UTEP receiver Tyrin Smith reentered the transfer portal, leading to Fisher and his staff quickly adding former Grand Valley State product Jahdae Walker, who already adds an explosive down-field element after average 20 YPR in 2022.

Still, mind-blowing speed was missing after the departure of running back Devon Achane, who the Miami Dolphins drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. After Anthony announced that he’d be shopping for other opportunities, new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino found the final piece in the receiving puzzle.

Take from his Track & Field background, Anthony’s recent accomplishments include winning the U-20 National Track 200m title with a record time of 20.34 seconds, breaking the Kentucky freshman record in the 60m with a time of 6.55 (noted as the second-best in the program history), and won the 60m at the McCravy Memorial and TTU Red Raider Open.

On the field, due to his lack of playing time last season, we had to go off his high school tape, and off the bat, Anthony averaged 20 yards per reception and 24 yards per attempt in special teams as a kick/punt returner. Simply put, he’s electric, especially from the slot due to his size at 5-10 and just nearly160 pounds, but ignoring his obvious weight deficiency, Fisher and Petrino’s plan for Anthony is as plain as day; bubble screens and go-routes anytime he hits the field. On special teams, Anthony may be the front runner for starting kick and punt returner if the Aggies want to protect senior WR Ainias Smith, as his quickness and explosive nature after the catch will certainly entice Fisher this fall.

Congratulations, Jordan, and if you didn’t already know, the Aggies Track & Field program isn’t too shabby either!

Texas A&M WBB ranks No. 5 in the Transfer Portal

Coach Joni Taylor is hitting the transfer portal hard and 247Sports has taken notice

Heading into year two, Coach Joni Taylor is hitting the transfer portal hard to bring in some experienced players to pair with her duo of All-SEC freshmen and a talented 2023 signing class. The Women’s Basketball team had a rough go at it this year, losing multiple players to either the transfer portal or injury, leading to them only winning nine games.

However, once the SEC tournament began, the Aggies got a few things rolling and surprised everyone by making it to the Quarterfinals before ultimately losing to Ole Miss. In those two games, you could see what Coach Taylor is trying to get her teams to accomplish once she finally has her stamp on this program.

A significant part of getting team buy-in is getting the type of players needed to translate that message from the practice to the game. A great way to do that for new coaches is to bring talented athletes with a few skins on the wall. Coach Taylor is not playing any games as she hit the transfer portal hard, bringing in multiple top 30 transfers that put them in the 247Sports top ten women’s transfer class rankings.

Below are the current transfers committed to Texas A&M

UAH transfer Chaney Johnson picks up NSWA Small College Athlete of the Year acknowledgement

The Auburn transfer earns recognition for his special season in 2022-23.

Former UAH basketball player [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag] was named ASWA Small College Athlete of the Year. Johnson has transferred to Auburn for his final two seasons of eligibility.

An AL.com article written by Mark McCarter dove into Johnson’s journey as a collegiate athlete and everything that led to him earning this achievement.

McCarter includes part of a scouting report from a camp Johnson attended when he was a prospect.

“A 6′0 145lb 2020 prospect from our Fall 2018 ATL camp,” the report said on Johnson. “College coaches on camp staff identified Chaney as having scholarship potential.”

Johnson ended up earning a partial scholarship to UAH and grew into a dominant 6-foot-7 player who earned the opportunity to play for the Tigers.

The Alabaster, Alabama native led the Chargers to their seventh trip to the NCAA Division II South Regional Finals in program history and was recognized as Gulf South Conference Player of the Year along the way.

The article included a statement from UAH coach John Shulman on the impact Johnson had.

“Chaney gave us an edge. He was different,” Shulman said. “He was different from everybody in the league. He didn’t come here different. He came here a 6-foot-4 skinny guy, but he had a belief, and we had belief in him, and he ended up 6-foot-7 and a man-child. His development is what it’s supposed to be in college. You get bigger and stronger and learn from the older guys. He always had one thing. He always had a work ethic, and work ethic made him the player he is today.”

The article also included some thoughts from Auburn head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag].

“The perfect example of the great American dream,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl called Johnson’s journey. “He will have the opportunity to impact our team right away. Auburn Basketball just got better.”

Johnson led UAH in points per game this season averaging 15.9 and rebounds per game averaging 6.6.

Texas A&M lands former Kentucky WR Jordan Anthony via the transfer portal

Texas A&M’s receiving unit just became more lethal after landing former Kentucky wideout, and speedster Jordan Anthony via the transfer portal on Friday.

If you had any doubts when Jimbo Fisher commented that Texas A&M would be aggressive via the transfer portal, it’s time to shove those concerns out the door. The Aggies added a key offensive piece Friday afternoon in former Kentucky wide receiver Jordan Anthony, who announced his decision to make College Station his next home.

The former Wildcat boasts blazing speed and headlines as a world-class sprinter, in addition to being a talented player on the gridiron, and it looks like he’s ready to take those talents to A&M.

Anthony officially shared the news of his commitment via social media, with an emphatic “Gig’Em!!” in the caption. Indeed, the Maroon and White look fresh on the speedy receiver:

Anthony shared how his mother’s and his relationship with Coach Price played an impactful role in comments shared via AggiesToday, as well as the enticing opportunity ahead of him in how he can help Texas A&M this coming season:

At 5-9 and 160 lbs, Anthony first announced his plans to enter the transfer portal back on May 30, and Texas A&M was quick to offer him from the start. As another dual-sport athlete to make College Station his next home, Anthony recorded a 10.16 100m to set the Kentucky freshman record in the event. He becomes the tenth member of the Aggies’ transfer class and joins fellow receiver Jahdae Walker, formerly of Grand Valley State.

The Aggies boast a highly-talented receiving unit that can stake its claim as one of the best in the nation, highlighted by Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad III, and the returning Ainias Smith. Adding a speedster like Anthony only makes that unit even more lethal, and should have newly added offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino eagerly awaiting to scheme him open every Saturday afternoon.

It’s a great day to be an Aggies fan, and huge congratulations are in order for Jordan Anthony and his family after making his decision! Gig ’em!

Penn State basketball fills final roster spot with North Carolina transfer

Penn State has completed its basketball roster with this UNC transfer.

After Penn State was sitting at three scholarship players for the upcoming 2023-24 season, new head coach [autotag]Mike Rhoades[/autotag] and his staff have fully filled out their roster with scholarship players.

The transfer portal was a main reason behind getting the program back up to speed quickly, which is something that Penn State has become accustomed to the last couple years. Although the transfer portal has been formerly used by the Nittany Lions as a luxury, this offseason it was a necessity if they wanted to field a full roster.

All of the hard work came to fruition on Thursday when North Carolina transfer [autotag]D’Marco Dunn[/autotag] filled out the final roster spot with his commitment. He transferred out of Chapel Hill after spending two seasons there.

Dunn is a former four-star prospect from Arizona who played his high school basketball at Westover in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He decided to stay in North Carolina after high school, committing to the Tar Heels in 2020. He was ranked as the number 70 overall player in the class of 2021 according to On3’s industry rankings.

Dunn is a 6’5″ 190-pound guard who saw limited action while at North Carolina. In his freshman season, he played in 23 games, but only averaged 4.1 minutes per game. He played in 27 games his sophomore season, but saw the floor for 10.3 minutes per game.

His career averages at North Carolina were 1.9 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game with zero games started.

Dunn was looking for a fresh start when he entered his name in the transfer portal. He feels like he’s found that at Penn State, joining his fellow North Carolina teammate [autotag]Puff Johnson[/autotag] in State College.

When speaking with Joe Tipton of On3 about his commitment, Dunn said, “I chose Penn State for the opportunity to play for Coach Rhoades and an amazing school. I’ve known him and his staff and believe in what they are building. I’m excited to be a part of something special.”

Dunn is a dynamic player who can add a high level of talent to a Penn State program that has added an influx of talented skill sets in a short amount of time.

Payton Thorne poised to make immediate impact at Auburn

Barrett Sallee of CBS Sports believes that Thorne will kickstart Auburn’s offense in 2023.

The last four College Football Playoff national champions all reside within the SEC. A strong reason for that is the conference’s ability to reel in top talent from across the country.

Not only is the SEC regularly at the top of the high school recruiting rankings, but they have also become a top destination for those in the transfer portal. According to current rankings from 247Sports, there are seven teams from the SEC that make up the transfer portal’s top 25 rankings.

The Auburn Tigers are No. 3 in 247Sports’ rankings, trailing just Colorado and LSU with 21 incoming transfers for this cycle. Out of the 21 signees, 11 of those have a four-star rating.

Out of all of the talented additions to Auburn’s roster, which one has the best chance to make an immediate impact in 2023? CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee says that Auburn fans need to look no further than quarterback [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag].

Sallee broke down the SEC’s most impactful transfers recently, where Thorne was mentioned among the five highlighted athletes. Sallee believes Thorne can provide a spark for Auburn’s offense.

First-year Tigers coach Hugh Freeze arrived on the Plains with one goal in mind: kickstart an underperforming offense. The passing game needed the most help, which is why Freeze lured Thorne away from Michigan State. Thorne threw for 6,493 yards and rushed for 270 yards in 29 games for the Spartans. He will have to battle with incumbent starter Robby Ashford during fall camp, but Thorne should have a leg up with Freeze looking to air it out in his return to the SEC.

The Michigan State transfer was listed alongside Alabama quarterback Tyler Buchner (Notre Dame), Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett (Missouri), Ole Miss quarterback Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State), and LSU defensive back Denver Harris (Texas A&M).
