Did the Commanders offer Raheem Morris the head coaching job?

The Commanders loved Quinn all along, but did have serious interest in others, too.

There is more discussion claiming the Commanders settled for Dan Quinn.

On Tuesday, Dan Patrick and his guest, Albert Breer, a senior NFL reporter for Monday Morning Quarterback, joined the list.

Patrick inquired as to what transpired with the Commanders being the last vacancy filled for this 2024 cycle.

The Commanders want a strong, durable general manager for the next decade, and the Harris group firmly believes Adam Peters is that guy. Consequently, Breer began explaining to Patrick this is why Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel did not fit into the structure the Commanders currently desire. (How Mike Florio had been so insistent the Commanders wanted Bill Belichick remains unknown.)

Breer continued, “They wanted to be wide open about their process, so they had Zoom interviews with I believe, eight candidates. They brought seven of them back for in-person interviews, and they wanted to be open-minded about it.”

Then Breer divulged, “Raheem Morris almost got the job two weeks ago. The Falcons gave him an offer that made the Commanders really think.”

Breer expressed the Commanders then determined, “No, we really want to finish our process. We want to meet with everybody.”

“They were obviously interested in meeting with Ben Johnson. Um, that didn’t go so well (as Breer chuckled) on Monday as they got the news (from Johnson).”

“Then the final two were Mike Macdonald and Dan Quinn, and Seattle swooping in and grabbing Macdonald sort of clarified, simplified things.”

Patrick inquired further, “Did they want Dan Quinn? Did they settle for Dan?” Breer responded, “They love Dan Quinn, they do.” Patrick, unsatisfied again, asked, “But did they settle for Dan Quinn?”

Breer responded pointing to the common connections in San Francisco with Adam Peters there with Kyle Shanahan and other coaches having worked for Quinn in Atlanta. “So with Quinn, the references were great. He knocked the interview out of the park.”

“Is it as exciting a hire as Raheem Morris, Ben Johnson, or Mike Macdonald would have been? You know, maybe not. But Dan Quinn is somebody in high demand the last couple of years.”

“So I think ‘settled’ is the wrong word. I think they were just kind of committed to riding the entire process out, and because of that, they lost a couple of guys along the way.”

On Feb. 1, Chris Russell (The Team 980) stated Morris and Macdonald had both been offered the job and chose to go elsewhere. Russell has more than once also stated he was told by one in the Cowboys organization (during the season finale) that Quinn wanted this job.

Kalen DeBoer talks re-recruiting current Alabama football players

Kalen DeBoer is proud of his staff for re-recruiting the current Alabama football roster

It has been roughly two weeks since the University of Alabama hired its newest head football coach Kalen DeBoer to replace the legendary Nick Saban. In that time, Coach DeBoer has been going non-stop in Tuscaloosa and the recruiting trail.

On Thursday, Coach DeBoer joined Dan Patrick on “The Dan Patrick Show” to discuss taking over the Crimson Tide and what the last two weeks have been like for him.

Patrick would ask him about re-recruiting the current Alabama football roster, especially in the era of the transfer portal and Coach DeBoer would express how impressed he was with his staff in doing just that.

“Absolutely. That’s a big part of it. I think that’s probably some of the best recruiting our coaches have done so far is really recruiting our own roster. And it’s crazy to say that but I think that’s the case no matter what, but I think it’s even at another level now just with everything. So I’m really proud of the way our guys – when I say our guys, our team – have been receptive and embraced our coaching staff and myself. I think we’ve done a great job of retaining the core, the nucleus of who’s in this program. There’s so many great players and they want this place to be great. It certainly caught them by surprise, and it hits you pretty hard when Coach Saban retired and that’s a big piece of why they came here. But they also came here to wear those Alabama colors, and they’ve really, again, been receptive to myself and holding one another and wanting to carry on the legacy of this great place.”

While fans and analysts around the country love to talk about all of the losses that Alabama’s roster has had, and it has been quite a few when you take a deeper look at the roster, the Crimson Tide still has one of the best rosters from top to bottom in the country. The fact that Coach DeBoer and his staff were able to keep a large portion of the roster together is a great accomplishment early on in the DeBoer era.

What sports media is saying about Commanders beating the Eagles

There were many opinions on Tuesday’s talk-show circuit about Washington’s win over the Eagles.

Most of the sports talk shows were talking Eagles/Commanders in that order because let’s face it; it was the Eagles who were undefeated and Washington 4-5. Yet, there were some interesting comments regarding the Commanders on sports TV Tuesday.

“I hate to say I told you so….no I don’t! I told you on Friday that Washington would beat Philly!” Chris Broussard said.

” The Eagles just permanently benched Carson Wentz again,” said Kevin Wilds.

“Washington faced Philadelphia for the second time and dominated them. Twice the plays, twice the rushing yards, twice the time of possession, better team all night…But the turnover stuff we talked about, they weren’t going to dominate turnovers for every game they played this year. Last night, when they didn’t, they got housed at home.” Colin Cowherd said.

“You just beat the Eagles. I don’t care how healthy Carson Wentz is. Taylor Heinicke is the guy. I know they made the investment; they have to justify the investment. Bologna! You are trying to win football games. Heinicke is the guy. How is it even a question for debate?” said Mike Florio.

“I feel bad for Carson Wentz. He didn’t have the luxury of a run game or pass protection when he was playing. Now they can kinda do that. So I do feel bad for him. But there is no doubt about it. I mean, they have won three out of four with Heinicke…He provides an energy and because of his skill set, makes them play a style of football that’s best suited for their football team.” said Chris Simms.

“They are not a terrible team; they got a terrible owner. There’s a big difference in that. You saw that last night. Ron Rivera has somehow kept this team together through all of this. Coming into last night’s game, Philadelphia was the only undefeated team in the league. But that doesn’t matter. It’s not what you have done. It’s the game in front of you.” Dan Patrick said.

“McLaurin is big time to me. He rose and showed up last night on MNF. He was lightin’ them up and telling them all about it. You can’t cover me. I fear him as a Cowboy fan. And I do respect his talent.” said Skip Bayless.

” You can’t stop the run. That was the problem last night. And then he play-actions you. Heinicke to his credit hung in there and made some big-time throws…The longer you leave a mediocre team in a game, the more confident they are going to get.” Shannon Sharpe said.

Pete Carroll says Russell Wilson not leaving Seattle

Pete Carroll said Russell Wilson was going nowhere this offseason.

Washington Commanders’ fans can scratch another one off of their list. The Seattle Seahawks are NOT trading Russell Wilson during this 2022 offseason.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, having departed from the podium at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, was approached and asked regarding all of the talk for the last month of his star QB Russell Wilson being traded.

“What (Seattle GM) John (Schneider) says is, ‘We’re not shopping the quarterback.’ That’s what he tells them,” Carroll said.

One year ago, Russell Wilson on the Dan Patrick Show, spoke candidly about his being on track to be sacked the most in NFL history, that he would like to have more input on personnel decisions, and the sack numbers are an aspect of his legacy he would like to alter.

Also in the 2021 offseason, Wilson’s agent declared Wilson would like to be traded to the Bears, Raiders, Cowboys, or Saints. Perhaps that is the reason so many have “assumed” there was talk behind the scenes between Wilson and the Seahawks of a trade this offseason.

However, this offseason we have seen Wilson calmly assert he hopes to end his career in Seattle. Wide receiver Tyler Lockett also confidently assured ESPN’s Dianna Russini that Wilson was not being traded.

Wednesday, Carroll was emphatic that the Seahawks have “no intention” of trading the ten-year veteran who led the team to its only Super Bowl championship in the 2013 season, only his second in the NFL.

Wilson grew up in Richmond, has mentioned family and friends in Richmond; consequently, Washington fans (and press) hoped the Commanders could pull off a trade for Wilson.

Dan Patrick: Tennessee gave cash to recruits in McDonald’s bags

According to Patrick’s source, Tennessee football got ‘sloppy’ and its staff gave cash to recruits in McDonald’s bags. Details here.

Tennessee is currently under investigation by the NCAA for recruiting violations under the watch of recently fired head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

In addition to the former Georgia defensive coordinators’ termination, the university fired nine other football employees who were hired by Pruitt.

Among the numerous issues revolving around the Volunteers program, which include level I and level II violations that garner the most severe repercussions, is this nugget of information passed along on The Dan Patrick Show.

According to Patrick’s source close to the situation, Tennessee football got ‘sloppy’ and its staff gave cash to recruits in McDonald’s bags and acted like they were not trying to hide anything.

Patrick’s source also said that Georgia football got ‘sloppy’ as well, although there are currently no reports that back that statement and the University of Georgia told the Athens Banner-Herald recently that there is no ongoing investigation into the UGA program.

As expected, Pruitt is defending his moves at UT legally and even released a statement with his lawyer on Monday condemning his firing.

By firing with cause, Tennessee avoided a $12.8 million dollar buyout.

This story is becoming more and more comical by the day. My only question is why not move up the proverbial fast-food chain to a premium burger spot like Sonic or Five Guys?

Nonetheless, Tennessee will look to replace half of its football staff in the coming months.
