Browns CB Mike Ford disrespects Terrible Towel after win

If you don’t want opposing players to do these things, you’d better win.

There was a time when the curse of the Terrible Towel meant if an opposing team disrespected the towel they were doomed to lose. But as we’ve seen this season, that no longer applies. To be fair, Cleveland Browns cornerback Mike Ford waited until after they beat the Steelers to disrespect it just to hedge his bet.

The Browns handed the Steelers an embarrassing 13-10 loss on Sunday thanks to a woeful Pittsburgh offense completely stalled out by the Browns defense. There was a time when a video like the one below would have enraged Steeler Nation but at this point, the fanbase has conceded that this team just isn’t very good and there doesn’t feel like that’s going to change much in the next eight games.

The Steelers now have to get past this week’s loss and try to prepare to take on a Cincinnati Bengals team minus quarterback Joe Burrow.

Trevor Lawrence: ‘I totally understand’ Terrible Towel drama from fans

Trevor Lawrence says Steelers fans making a mountain out of a molehill is “part of what makes this game great.”

Trevor Lawrence didn’t mean any disrespect when he described the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Terrible Towel as a “little yellow towel” earlier this week. But the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback also isn’t bothered that his words were misconstrued in the lead up to Week 8.

“I don’t really care about… Fans do that,” Lawrence said. “It’s part of what makes this game great. You use fuel. You want to hate your opponent when they come in, make it as hard as possible on them. I totally understand that. I hope our fans do that in Jacksonville, too.”

Lawrence, 24, had never played in Pittsburgh before Sunday. Even during his three-year career at Clemson, the quarterback twice played the Pittsburgh Panthers, but never at Acrisure Stadium.

At points Sunday, it appeared the quarterback was having difficulty hearing the playcalls in his headset.

“I thought we played pretty clean in the noise minus a couple things,” Lawrence said. “I thought we communicated really well. Great environment. The fans were loud. They did a great job, too.”

Lawrence’s compliments probably won’t do much to win over those who were mad, as it doesn’t seem like they cared to listen to him much in the first place. Regardless, the Jaguars quarterback isn’t too worried about it.

Watch: Jaguars celebrate interception vs Steelers with Terrible Towels

Andrew Wingard snatched a Terrible Towel from an inattentive Steelers fan after his interception Sunday.

A harmless remark by Trevor Lawrence about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Terrible Towel” was blown out of proportion and taken as a sign of disrespect by fans and even Bill Cowher in the lead up to a Week 8 game.

Jacksonville Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard actually made sure to disrespect the Towel during a 20-10 win on Sunday. After picking off the Steelers’ Mitchell Trubisky, Wingard snagged a Terrible Towel from an inattentive Pittsburgh fan and charged out on the field to give it some swings. Jaguars pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson found one too during the defense’s celebration.

Days ahead of the Week 8 matchup, Steelers wide receiver George Pickens said Jacksonville has a “hope defense.” After the game, both Wingard and fellow Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins made it clear they took the comment personally.

So Wingard, a player who’s never lacking for energy and gusto, was more than ready to rub his big play in the face of the Steelers and their fans.

Bill Cowher joins disingenuous Trevor Lawrence ‘little towel’ outrage

The silliest subplot of the Jaguars’ season so far keeps getting sillier.

The silliest subplot of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2023 season so far keeps getting sillier with former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher now adding himself to the mix.

In a Friday appearance on ESPN’s “Pat McAfee Show,” Cowher chastised Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence for what he said Wednesday about the “Terrible Towel.”

“Trevor Lawrence talked about those little gold towels this week,” Cowher said. “Little? Come on, Trevor, it’s called a Terrible Towel. And you’re going to be terrible because this towel is going to make you terrible. That’s why it’s called a Terrible Towel.”

A quick recap for the uninitiated: Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked if he’s too young to know about the Terrible Towel. He correctly and accurately said they he knew about the “little yellow towels they swing around.”

Lawrence, 24, then spoke for a minute about his excitement to go to Pittsburgh to play a historic franchise that has an “aura” surrounding it.

Somehow, an entirely innocuous and overwhelmingly respectful answer has plenty of Steelers fans riled up. Evidently, that overly dramatic group includes Cowher. As a segment from The Rich Eisen Show said about the situation, it’s a terribly thin-skinned reaction from (some, not all) Steelers fans.

Trevor Lawrence’s ‘little yellow towel’ comment rankles Steelers fans

Steelers fans were not happy about the way Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (accurately) described The Terrible Towel.

With a trip to Pittsburgh on the way, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked Wednesday if he’s too young to know about The Terrible Towel.

“No, I know what they are,” Lawrence said with a smile. “The little yellow towels they swing around.”

It was an innocuous (and accurate) description of the yellow towels that are impossible to miss at Pittsburgh Steelers games. It was also followed by Lawrence heaping praise on the Steelers’ stadium, organization, and fans.

But somehow Lawrence’s use of the word “little” still ruffled some feathers:

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. and outside linebacker Travon Walker were both asked the same question in the locker room Wednesday. Etienne said he just learned about the Terrible Towel on Monday and Walker had never heard of it before.

The Week 8 game will be the Jaguars’ first trip to Pittsburgh since a playoff game in January 2018, a few months before Lawrence graduated high school.

Zach Banner has new motivation for healthy, bounce-back 2021 season

Banner sent the young Steelers fan an unforgettable gift that he’ll cherish forever.

Nicknamed “The Hulk,” the 6-foot-8, 360-pound Zach Banner has proven himself to be more like a teddy bear during his short time in Pittsburgh.

Banner is also a fan favorite, known for his amusing sense of humor, down-to-earth nature and eligibility as a receiver.

In a recent Twitter post, Banner showed another reason why he’s a fan favorite:

Dear Mr. Banner,

Thank you for sending me the Terrible Towel for my birthday. Having your name on it means a lot to me. I am a gigantic Steelers fan! It will be special to me always.

Thank you very much again.

Jonah Snyder

It’s really cool of Banner to send Jonah an autographed Terrible Towel for his birthday. He’s made himself a lifelong fan.

What’s also great is that Banner realizes that without fans, there would be no NFL.
