The Tennessee Volunteers (1-0) and the NC State Wolfpack (1-0) meet Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN+). Below, we look at Tennessee vs. NC State odds from FanDuel Sportsbook before making our expert college football picks and predictions later in the week.

The Volunteers spanked FCS Chattanooga 69-3 in the opener, covering as a 38.5-point favorite as the Over (57) cashed. The Mocs were ranked No. 8 in the FCS preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, too, so they’re a pretty decent team. The Wolfpack had a little more difficult time with their FCS foe, Western Carolina. The Catamounts took a 14-7 lead after the 1st half, and WCU led 21-17 after 3 quarters. However, the 4th quarter was all NC State, outscoring the visitors 21-0 to win 38-21. NC State rushed for 203 yards, while passing for 318 yards.

Sweet 16 first look: Creighton vs. Tennessee odds, lines and trends

What you need to know: NCAA Tournament early look at Friday’s Creighton vs. Tennessee Sweet 16 odds.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 3 seed Creighton Bluejays (25-9) and 2nd-seeded Tennessee Volunteers (26-8) meet Friday in a Sweet 16 contest at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:09 p.m. ET (TBS/truTV). Below, we look at Tennessee vs. Creighton odds from BetMGM Sportsbook before making our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Tennessee was smoked 73-56 in its 1st game of the SEC Tournament — a quarterfinal loss to Mississippi State . The Volunteers bounced back nicely in this NCAA Tournament with wins over 15th-seeded Saint Peter’s (83-49 in the 1st round) and No. 7 seed Texas (62-58 Saturday). They covered the spread as 22-point favorites vs. Saint Peter’s but came up short as 6.5-point faves vs. Texas. The Over/Under split in the 2 games with an easy Under cash vs. the Longhorns as the O/U line was 144.

Creighton was on the ropes against No. 11 seed Oregon Saturday but was able to hold off the Ducks in an epic 2OT victory, pulling away in the 2nd extra session for an 86-73 win. The Bluejays covered both of their NCAA Tournament wins with an average margin of victory of 15.0 points per game (PPG). Creighton’s opening win was a 77-60 decision as 11.5-point favorites vs. 14th-seeded Akron 77-60.

Tennessee is No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, while Creighton checks in at No. 11.

Creighton vs. Tennessee head-to-head

Friday will mark the 1st-ever meeting on the hardwood between these institutions.

This is the 2nd consecutive season Tennessee has made it to the Sweet 16. The Vols advanced to the Sweet 16 as a No. 4 seed last season before losing to 9th-seeded and eventual Final Four-bound FAU 62-55. They haven’t advanced to the Elite 8 since 2010, when it edged 2nd-seeded Ohio State in the Sweet 16 as a No. 6 seed before falling to No. 5 seed Michigan State by a single point (70-69).

This is the first game for Tennessee against a Big East team in the NCAA Tournament since losing to Louisville in the 2008 Sweet 16.

Creighton is also into the Sweet 16 for the 2nd consecutive season. It topped No. 15 seed Princeton in the Sweet 16 last season before falling in excruciating fashion to 5th-seeeded and eventual national runners-up San Diego State in the Elite 8. The Bluejays have been to the Sweet 16 in 3 of the past 4 NCAA Tournaments.

This is the first game for Creighton against an SEC team in the NCAA Tournament since topping Alabama in the 1st round in 2012.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 1-1 SEC) and Tennessee Volunteers (3-1, 0-1) meet Saturday at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (SEC Network). Below, we look at South Carolina vs. Tennessee odds from FanDuel Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s college football picks and predictions.

South Carolina is coming off a 37-30 victory as a 6-point home favorite vs. the Mississippi State Bulldogs last Saturday. Coach Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks are 2-1 in their last 3 games after dropping their opener to the North Carolina Tar Heels 31-17 as 3-point road underdogs. The other setback was to the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs 24-14 after jumping out to a 14-point lead on the 2-time defending champs — South Carolina covered as a 26-point dog.

Tennessee rebounded from its 1st loss of the season with a 45-14 rout of the visiting UTSA Roadrunners, covering as a 24-point home favorite. The Vols were upset the previous week at the Florida Gators, getting knocked off 29-16 as 4.5-point favorites.

This will be an important game for both teams to maintain pace in the SEC East race to see who can likely finish 2nd behind Georgia.

First look: Virginia vs. Tennessee odds and lines

Looking at Saturday’s Virginia vs. Tennessee college football odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Virginia Cavaliers and the Tennessee Volunteers open the regular season on Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (ABC). Below, we look at Virginia vs. Tennessee odds from BetMGM Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s college football picks and predictions.

The Cavaliers head to Nashville for the 1st time since playing in the Music City Bowl back on Dec. 30, 2005, a 34-31 win over Minnesota, by the way. Virginia went just 3-7 last season in coach Tony Elliott’s debut, and it had a sad ending to the season when 3 players were murdered in November by a former player.

Virginia heads into the 2023 season with a lot of new faces, including QB Tony Muskett, a transfer from FCS Monmouth. He will be tasked with getting Elliott’s pro-style, timing-based offense up and moving. The team not only has a new signal caller, but the top 4 wideouts are gone, too. Yikes.

Tennessee begins the post-Hendon Hooker era in pretty good shape with QB Joe Milton III. Wideouts Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman are gone to the NFL, but there are still plenty of downfield threats available with former USC receiver Bru McCoy and Squirrel White leading the way. The Vols have 3 competent backs to shoulder the load, too.

Tennessee is No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Sweet 16 first look: FAU vs. Tennessee odds, lines and trends

Looking at Thursday FAU vs. Tennessee Sweet 16 odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The 8th-seeded Florida Atlantic Owls (33-3) meet the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers (25-10) on Thursday at Madison Square Garden. Tip is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we look at FAU vs. Tennessee odds from Tipico Sportsbook. Plus, check out our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

FAU entered this NCAA Tournament with an 0-1 record in the Big Dance. After a 66-65 win over Memphis, and a 78-70 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Owls find themselves in unchartered territory, playing its first-ever game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In the win over FDU, Johnell Davis scored 29 points with 12 rebounds, 5  assists and 5 steals while going 10-of-16 from the field. Davis became the first player in Men’s NCAA Tournament history with 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 5+ steals.

The Owls have posted 9 straight victories, while going 6-3 against the spread (ATS) during the impressive run. The Over result against FDU snapped a 4-0 Under run in the postseason for the Owls.

Tennessee powered past Duke 65-52 as a 3-point underdog in the second round, which was much more impressive than its ugly 58-55 victory over Louisiana in the opening round.

The Vols have hit the Under in 3 of 4 games during the postseason, while going low on the total at a 9-4-1 clip in the last 14 games overall. Tennessee is looking for its 1st 3-game win streak since rattling off 4 straight victories and covers from Jan. 17-28.

FAU has never been the Sweet 16, while Tennessee makes its 1st appearance in the Sweet 16 since 2019 when it was bounced by Purdue in overtime.

The Vols, who were stunned in Week 12 losing 63-38 as 23.5-point favorites to South Carolina, will be without Heisman hopeful QB Hendon Hooker, who tore his ACL in the loss. The Vols enter their last regular-season game 8-3 against the spread (ATS).

QB Joe Milton III should be the Vols’ main playcaller as he jumped in against South Carolina and was 4-for-8 for 108 yards and a TD.

Vanderbilt earned its 1st conference road win of the season against Kentucky on Nov. 12 and then beat Florida 31-24 at home Saturday as 13.5-point underdogs. The Commodores are 5-6 ATS on the season and 2-3 straight up at home.
