Pete Thamel lists four coaches who could fill Notre Dame opening

Would you like one of these coaches?

Since [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] announced his intention to leave Notre Dame in January, various names have floated as his replacement. Our own Nick Shepkowski made his own list of candidates in the immediate aftermath of Brey’s announcement. While it’s nice to keep all options open, it appears the list is starting to narrow down. At least that’s what ESPN’s Pete Thamel said he believes during the most recent episode of College GameDay:

For all we know, this list could be completely bogus with none of the four landing the job. But when you cover college basketball for a living, you’re bound to hear a few whispers about who the next coach might be. For argument’s sake, let’s pretend this list is legitimate and that the search indeed will come down to these four. Then, we can debate as to who would be the best candidate for the Irish for the long haul:

Report: Louisville targeting key Notre Dame assistant

How much would this hurt?

Marcus Freeman could soon be looking for a third assistant coach vacancy to fill if Scott Satterfield and Louisville end up making a reported possible move.  Satterfield is looking for a new offensive coordinator and FootballScoop reported Saturday that Notre Dame running backs coach and run game coordinator Lance Taylor is a possibility.

“Notre Dame’s Lance Taylor, the Irish’s running backs coach and run game coordinator, has emerged as a top target for the offensive coordinator position on Scott Satterfield’s Louisville staff, multiple sources close to both programs told FootballScoop.”

Taylor has been key in Notre Dame’s growth at running back in recent years and is a star on the rise.  After playing collegiately at Alabama he has coached the likes of Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love at Stanford while also coaching the wide receivers with the Carolina Panthers before starting at Notre Dame in 2019.

Football Scoop made it clear that this isn’t a done deal and that Taylor is one of at least three key targets for Satterfield and Louisville.

It’s a potential move that would make sense for Taylor in his career as its obvious that with Tommy Rees around that calling the offense simply won’t be made available to Taylor at Notre Dame anytime soon.

If the move were to end up happening it’d be a significant one as Notre Dame wouldn’t lose just a strong coach in terms of development but also a very strong recruiter.

Jonathan Taylor has more rushing yards on the season than these NFL teams

The Badger legend has had a remarkable 2021

Jonathan Taylor has taken over as not only the best running back in the NFL, but arguably the MVP of the league in 2021. The Badger legend has a legitimate chance at reaching 2,000 rushing yards on the season, and currently sits at 1,626 yards on the ground on 297 carries.

The New Jersey native has averaged 5.5 yards per carry, and has a chance to carry the Indianapolis Colts into the playoffs.

It turns out that Taylor by himself has been better than a handful of NFL teams on the ground. According to Pro Football Focus, the former Badger has more rushing yards than 13 NFL teams:

One of those teams is the Las Vegas Raiders, who Taylor’s Colts will see on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
