Sporting News just released its college football bowl predictions for the 2021 season.
Georgia is projected to face Iowa State in the Sugar Bowl.
“The Bulldogs are forced to settle for a fourth straight New Year’s Day Six Bowl appearance unless JT Daniels can lead a Playoff run. Will that turn up any pressure on Kirby Smart? The Cyclones, meanwhile, are in an all-in year given the number of players who returned from last year’s Fiesta Bowl winner. Given the hype around both teams, this would feel a bit like a consolation game.”
As far as playoff matchups, Ohio State is projected to face Alabama in the Orange Bowl, while Oklahoma faces Clemson in the Cotton Bowl.
The projected national championship matchup is, surprise, Alabama versus Clemson.
Georgia would consider another Sugar Bowl matchup as a disappointment this year. Not because the Bulldogs are spoiled after three-straight New Year’s Six bowl appearances, but because of the sheer talent and experience on both sides of the ball that return to Athens.
J.T. Daniels returns as one of the top quarterbacks in the country and joining him is a loaded backfield along with stacked receiver and tight-end groups. Oh, and the addition of former five-star tight end Arik Gilbert helps a bit too.
And on defense, the Bulldogs have already addressed really the only need on that side of the ball by bringing in star transfer defensive backs Derion Kendrick and Tykee Smith. That should help sure-up a back end that lost five starters to the NFL.
Predictions aside, this could very well be the year Georgia football gets back on top and it all starts with a top-tier matchup versus Clemson in Charlotte on Sept. 4.
