What a comeback from Netherlands runner Sifan Hassan in the 1500m prelim.
She was in the back of the pack some three minutes into the race. When another runner fell, Hassan — who the booth was keeping an eye on given that she’s a world champion in the event — tripped as well and took a huge fall.
But Hassan got right up and put on the afterburners on that last lap … and then she passed the rest of the field to win the heat.
What an incredible moment. She would have qualified even if she hadn’t finished first overall — the top six advance — but this is quite a statement:
Never give up!
