SEC Injury Report lists key Texas linebacker ‘doubtful’ for Arkansas game

Texas vs. Arkansas injury update: Key players Vasek, Blackwell Jr., Green, and Jackson listed ahead of Saturday’s showdown in Fayetteville.

The Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks have announced their first student-athlete availability reports ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated matchup in Fayetteville.

Texas listed edge rusher Colton Vasek and linebacker Morice Blackwell Jr. as doubtful for the game. Meanwhile, Arkansas listed quarterback Taylen Green and running back Ja’Quinden Jackson—formerly a Texas Longhorns quarterback—as probable to play.

Blackwell’s addition to the Longhorns’ report comes as a surprise, with no clear indication of when he sustained the injury. Vasek, however, has been sidelined since before Texas’s dominant 49-17 win over Florida last week.

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman confirmed Monday that Green practiced throughout the team’s recent bye week following a knee injury suffered in their loss to Ole Miss. Pittman expressed optimism regarding Green’s return.

“Taylen practiced every day last week, and I believe he’ll be fine,” Pittman stated.

Should Green be limited, Arkansas remains confident in backup quarterback Malachi Singleton. Singleton performed admirably in relief against Ole Miss, completing 11 of 14 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown, along with eight carries for 44 yards and an additional score.

“Malachi played extremely well and we’re glad we have him and have a lot of belief in him when he goes in the game.” Pittman said.

Longhorns women’s basketball signs top-five recruit

The Minnesota native is coming off one of the best seasons of her high school career

On Wednesday, Longhorns women’s basketball had a reason to celebrate as they added to their 2025 class. Texas announced the signing of Aaliyah Crump, who is ranked as the fifth-best player in her class by ESPN. The Minnesota native is coming off one of the best seasons of her high school career.

During her junior campaign, Crump averaged 24.4 points and 3.7 steals per game. As Crump shined offensively, she led her team to the 2024 4A State Championship. Due to her play, Crump was named to the watch list for the 2024-25 Naismith Trophy Girl’s High School Player of the Year award.

While Crump’s debut is still months away, the expectations are high. Many on campus, including Texas head coach Vic Shaefer, are excited about what the future holds.

“I’m excited and proud to announce the signing of Aaliyah Crump to our program,”Shaefer told Texas Athletics. “Aaliyah is someone we identified several years ago as a young lady who would continue to develop into an elite basketball player and someone who could be an incredible student athlete here at The University of Texas.”

In Crump, the Longhorns are getting a gifted scorer and a player who has proved herself on the national stage. The talented shooting guard was part of the USA Women’s U16 National Team that won a gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship. During Team USA’s gold medal run, Crump ranked second on the team in three-point shooting percentage.

With Crump in the mix, the Longhorns futue has become much brighter.

Texas Longhorns eye first-round NFL Draft success as season nears final stretch

Texas Longhorns prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft—see where stars like Quinn Ewers are projected in the first round.

As the college football season approaches its conclusion, with most teams having fewer than two regular-season games remaining, players are making their final cases for the 2025 NFL Draft.

While quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and Cam Ward (Miami) have solidified their first-round status, others, including Texas’ Quinn Ewers, have seen their rankings decline.

Despite this, several Texas Longhorns a re projected as first-round picks in Tankathon’s latest mock draft:

15. Seattle Seahawks – Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas
Seattle’s offensive struggles have limited play-calling options for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, with inconsistent pass protection leaving quarterback Geno Smith vulnerable. Texas left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. offers a solution with his 6-foot-4, 320-pound frame and standout blocking skills. Though a shift to guard might be in the cards, Banks has the technique and size to anchor the Seahawks’ line and enhance Smith’s protection.

17. Los Angeles Rams – Cameron Williams, OT, Texas
The Rams are desperate to shore up their offensive line to preserve what’s left of Matthew Stafford’s career, as Monday’s loss to the Dolphins highlighted with four sacks allowed. Cameron Williams may not be an instant fix, but his elite athletic traits and potential make him an intriguing first-round choice. With proper development, Williams could bring stability to an embattled front line in Los Angeles.

24. Green Bay Packers – Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas
Green Bay’s secondary has been a work in progress, with the spot opposite Jaire Alexander posing a persistent issue. Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron may lack the prototypical size and athletic profile of some NFL corners, but his playmaking ability and adaptability in the secondary could offer a quick solution to the Packers’ defensive needs.

27. Pittsburgh Steelers – Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas
With Russell Wilson on a short-term contract and nearing 36, the Steelers’ offensive strategy could be shifting. Regardless, a deep threat like Isaiah Bond, who’s averaged 16.7 yards per catch this season, would bring explosive speed to Pittsburgh’s receiving corps. Bond’s ability to stretch the field would give the Steelers an added dimension, diversifying an offense that could benefit from his downfield prowess.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has the opportunity to enhance his 2025 NFL Draft prospects in the remaining games of the season. Upcoming matchups against Arkansas and Texas A&M, followed by a potential appearance in the SEC Championship, provide significant platforms for Ewers to showcase his skills.

Strong performances in these high-stakes games could solidify his status as a first-round pick. One things for sure, if he does good in the College Football Playoff, he will have no issue in the NFL Draft.

Matthew Golden named East-West Shrine Bowl’s ‘Texas Star of the Week’

While Texas got contributions from everyone on the roster, one player who stood out was Matthew Golden

In their win over the Florida Gators on Saturday, the Longhorns offense was firing on all cylinders. While Texas got contributions from everyone on the roster, one player who stood out was Matthew Golden. The talented junior was one of Quinn Ewers favorite targets and named the East-West Shrine Bowl’s “Texas Star of the Week” on Tuesday.

Against the Gators, Golden caught three passes for 64 yards. He was a scoring machine, as his two receiving touchdowns led the team. It marked the first team since the season opener that the Houston native found the end zone more than once in a game.

Although Golden’s first season with the Longhorns has been full of ups and downs, he provided a reminder of how good he is over the weekend. Through nine games, Golden is third on the team in receptions with 27 and receiving yards with 396. Following his stellar performance on Saturday, he leads all Longhorns receivers in touchdowns with six.

With Golden serving as one of the teams best weapons, the Longhorns rank ninth in total offense and tenth in scoring offense. With wins at a premium down the stretch, the offense will be heavily relied on as the Longhorns chase a national championship.

On Saturday, Golden will build on his success when the Longhorns take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. He should continue to be an important piece, which could mean more awards on the horizon.

Quinn Ewers named to Davey O’Brien Great 8 lists

The honor comes as no surprise after Ewers looked unstoppable against the Gators

Following one of the best games of his college career, Quinn Ewers is adding more weekly honors to his resume. On Monday, the Longhorns star QB was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 lists. The honor comes as no surprise after Ewers looked unstoppable against the Gators.

In the Longhorns’ win over Florida, Ewers completed 19 of his 27 passes for 333 yards. He set a new career high in touchdown passes with five, which almost tied the school record. As Ewers looked unstoppable, he also reached a few career milestones.

On Saturday, the talented junior became the fourth SEC quarterback since 1996 to throw five touchdown passes of 20-plus yards in a conference game. That list includes Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Cox, and Jared Lorenzen. He also extended his passing touchdown streak to 20 consecutive games, which is currently tied for the longest streak in the FBS.

As the Longhorns chase a national championship, Ewers is in the midst of the best seasons of his college career. He has multiple passing touchdowns in six of his seven starts this season, with three-plus touchdowns in back-to-back games. Although he was benched during the Georgia game, Ewers has quickly flipped the page and provided a reminder of his value.

With the regular season winding down, Ewers should continue to be a prominent name in weekly and yearly awards. On Tuesday, he was also named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

SEC fines Ole Miss for storming field, Georgia will receive fine

Ole Miss fans storm the field early, causing larger fines that Georgia will receive from Ole Miss as a consequence

Ole Miss Rebels fans were looking to celebrate their 28-10 win against the Georgia Bulldogs, but they jumped the gun. With 16 seconds left, Ole Miss fans stormed the field. Officials had to clear the field before the fans stormed again, which resulted in the goalpost being taken off the field.

As a result, the SEC has fined the Rebels $350,000 for the incident. This was Ole Miss’s second offense, which meant they already had a $250,000 fine for this incident, but another $100,000 was tacked on for the fans deciding to storm the field early. Their first incident occurred against LSU last year, and if they storm the field again, they’ll be fined $500,000.

All of this current incident’s fine ($350,000) will go to the Georgia Bulldogs.

The fan-storming incident has also brought with it some controversy from the Georgia Bulldogs, as Georgia safety Jake Pope was caught celebrating with Ole Miss. Kirby Smart has already lambasted Pope in his most recent interview, but Pope has since apologized and explained he surprisingly ran into a longtime friend.

Tre Johnson earns first weekly award of Longhorns career

In his first two games of the season, Johnson has shown why he has a bright future

In the first month of his college career, Tre Johnson is already making headlines. On Monday, the Longhorns guard was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week. In his first two games of the season, Johnson has shown why he has a bright future.

As the Longhorns have gotten off to a 1-1 start, Johnson is averaging a team-best 28.5 points per game while shooting 55.3 percent from the floor. The Link Academy High School product has been deadly from three-point range, converting 55.6 percent of his shots. He has also made an impact on the boards, averaging 3.5 rebounds a game.

While Johnson has been at the center of the Longhorns offense, he also etched himself into the record books. Against Ohio State, the Texas native set the program record for most points in a freshman debut with 29. The previous record holder was Kevin Durant.

After making history, Johnson did not let up in the Longhorns’ first win of the season. On Friday, he led the way offensively for Texas with 28 points and three assists. He was the only Longhorns player to score more than 20 points.

On Tuesday night, Johnson will get to build on his success when the Longhorns take on Chicago State. Texas is heavily favored heading into their third game of the season, with Chicago State off to an 0-2 start.
