NBA Mock Draft 5.0: All 60 picks updated after the 2021 lottery

Learn who we think will get selected with each of the 60 picks in the 2021 NBA draft.

The 2021 NBA draft order is set and the Detroit Pistons have won the lottery, taking home the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday evening.

Of course, these projections are subject to change even over the next few days, as the NBA’s combine is currently underway in Chicago. Prospects are often able to separate themselves and improve their draft stock if they stand out during five-on-five scrimmages that will take place later this week.

Note that there are several players who are currently “testing the waters” (e.g. Texas Tech’s Terrence Shannon Jr., UCLA’s Johnny Juzang, St. John’s Julian Champagnie and Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas, etc.) that were omitted from this mock. Such players will have until midnight on July 8 to decide if they wish to return to the NCAA and improve their draft stock or remain in this class.

Unfortunately, collegiate national champion Jared Butler was omitted from our mock after news broke earlier today that he is “not permitted to play or practice” in the NBA, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, unless his heart condition is deemed as cleared.

We will continue to release more mock drafts as we gather more intel, but until then, here is how we project the draft to shake out on July 29.

This former Florida basketball player got invited to 2021 NBA Combine

Scottie Lewis shocked many fans when he entered the NBA draft and signed with an agent that ended his so-so career at Florida.

Former Florida guard Scottie Lewis failed to live up to his 5-star billing that many Gators fans hoped for. Therefore it was surprising to many that Lewis elected to declare for the 2021 NBA draft and hire an agent that closed the door on his Gators career.

However, he will get the opportunity to display his freakish athleticism in front of NBA scouts. Stadium‘s Jeff Goodman reported that Lewis received an invite to the NBA combine. The event runs from June 21 to June 27, which can be seen on ESPN’s family of networks.

In his two seasons at Florida, he averaged only 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The NBA draft will then take place July 29 where the Gators hope to have their first player drafted since Erik Murphy went in the second round in 2013.

Lewis is the third UF hopeful who entered his name in the draft. Point guard Tre Mann declared and hired an agent where he is projected to go late in the first round. Center Colin Castleton entered his name as well, but he didn’t hire an agent that keeps his college eligibility intact.

Report: Scottie Lewis invited to participate in NBA draft combine

Lewis averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 1.5 assists and one blocked shot in 21 games with the Gators.

Florida guard Scottie Lewis has reportedly received an invitation to compete in the NBA draft combine later this month, according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

Lewis averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 1.5 assists and one blocked shot in 21 games with the Gators. He produced perhaps his best overall game of the season on Dec. 6 when he registered 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists versus Stetson.

The sophomore announced on April 2 that he would sign with an agent and declare for the draft. He is not currently projected to be selected by most mock drafts, but a strong showing in the combine could help improve his stock.

The NBA announced in March the combine will return to Chicago and take place June 21-27. The league intends to invite around 100 prospects to take part in the draft combine and NBA G League Elite Camp, which will run June 19-21 in Chicago.

The draft is set to take place on July 29.

2021 NBA Draft Big Board 4.0: Top 100 prospects pre-combine and lottery

Now that the early entry list is officially out and combine invitations have been sent out, the 2021 NBA draft class is starting to finalize.

Now that the early entry deadline has passed and combine invitations have been sent out, the 2021 NBA draft class is starting to finalize.

Last year, the NCAA tournament and the combine were both canceled due to the pandemic. That made evaluations much tougher for scouts and front offices around the league. This year, the pre-draft process feels somewhat normal again for top basketball prospects who are set to join the pros.

As a new class of players prepares to turn professional, here is how we would currently rank this class based on what we have seen from them so far, with some of my picks that are higher than other experts have them ranked.

Here’s where Tre Mann lands in ESPN’s latest NBA mock draft

The latest mock draft from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony shows Tre Mann falling out of the lottery to the Hawks with the 19th pick.

Former Florida guard Tre Mann has seen his stock improve tremendously since he almost single-handedly led the Gators through the postseason. The team got knocked out in the second round, but Mann averaged 21.3 points per game in the SEC and NCAA Tournaments, improving upon his already impressive season average of 16.

Unsurprisingly, Mann made the decision to enter the NBA draft with an agent after the season, forfeiting his remaining college eligibility with the Gators in the process. He’s expected to end a drought of Florida players being drafted into the NBA that dates back to 2013. He’s also very likely to be the first UF first-round pick since Bradley Beal went third overall in 2012.

[exco_embed id=”e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”]

But where exactly will Mann land? There’s not exactly a clear consensus. Some mock drafts show the former five-star recruit from The Villages landing near the tail end of the lottery, while others show him falling deeper into the first round. The only consistency is that most prognosticators don’t expect Mann to fall beyond the first 30 picks.

The draft order is far from set, as the NBA playoff field was only finalized with Golden State’s loss to Memphis on Friday night in the eight-seed play-in game. We now know which teams will be in the lottery, but that’s about it. But based on current projections, the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony shows Mann falling out of the lottery to the Atlanta Hawks with the 19th pick.

Finding a combo guard who can play on or off the ball and complement star point guard Trae Young could very well be a priority for the Hawks. Mann is a promising pick-and-roll ball handler whose size and 40% 3-point shooting will allow him to play in a variety of lineup configurations.

This would be an interesting spot for Mann. As Givony mentions, the Hawks already have one of the best up-and-coming guards in Trae Young, who (as his name suggests) is only 22. Young primarily runs the point, and successfully, at that. He’s averaging over 25 points per game in 2020-21 and led the Hawks to a No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Adding Mann to the equation would give Atlanta quite a formidable backcourt, but it would be interesting to see how he and Young would coexist considering they’re both facilitators.

2021 NBA Draft Big Board 3.0: Top 100 prospects pre-early entry deadline

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

As the NBA’s 2020-21 regular season nears its close, the league’s next wave of talent is preparing to take the great leap to become pros.

Players have until the end of this month, May 30, to apply for entry into the 2021 NBA draft. They will then have until July 19 to determine whether or not they plan to stay in this class or (unless they hired an agent who does not have NCAA certification) return to school.

This is obviously an incredibly difficult decision and as the majority of early entry candidates have made their intentions public, those who are testing the waters are already weighing their options.

Fortunately, the NBA’s Undergraduate Advisory Committee (UAC) exists to help answer some of those questions.

The advisory committee, which began in 1997, offers feedback to prospects on their potential draft stock. As many prospects are facing pivotal decisions about their future, this kind of intel is incredibly important.

Players like Gonzaga’s Corey Kispert and Baylor’s Jared Butler both went through this process last season, likely were not satisfied with the results and opted to return. Now, after tremendous efforts last season, both are projected first-rounders.

These decisions have tremendous financial implications for these individuals as well. For example, even if Kispert or Butler went with the last pick in the first round in 2020, they would have likely earned a contract worth around $5 million over three years. This year, even if they went outside of the lottery at at No. 15 overall, that would be around $8.5 million.

With that in mind, for the latest version of For The Win’s 2021 NBA draft big board, I’ve provided my evaluation for the top prospects expected to be in the pre-draft process. Players excluded from this exercise were likely because the reporting suggests that they are going back to school.

Note that these decisions were fully based on where I would have each player ranked, not a projection, although various conversations with scouts as well as other talent evaluators around the league have factored into my evaluation.

Moses Moody, Jalen Johnson among prospects to sign with Klutch Sports

Moody and Johnson headlined the group of prospects that were signed by the Klutch Sports Group on Thursday.

Arkansas guard Moses Moody and Duke forward Jalen Johnson headlined the group of prospects that were signed by the Klutch Sports Group on Thursday, the agency announced.

In addition to Moody and Johnson, Texas forward Kai Jones, Kentucky players BJ Boston and Terrence Clark, and Florida guard Scottie Lewis also signed with Rich Paul-led group to form a talented haul of draft prospects this year.

Moody, Johnson and Jones each enter the pre-draft process projected by most to be lottery selections, while Boston is thought to be a late first-round pick. Meanwhile, Clark is believed to be a late second-rounder and Lewis is currently outside of the top 60 by most mocks.

Of course, the pre-draft rankings will change from now until the NBA draft on July 29. Prospects will conduct interviews and workouts with teams in the coming weeks while scouting events like the combine and NBA G League Elite Camp will return to help players improve their draft stock.

Klutch Sports has emerged as perhaps the top agency in the NBA given its All-Star clientele, headlined by LeBron James, Anthony Davis and John Wall among others. In 2020, the agency signed Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Maxey.

Lewis tries his hand at the draft after disappointing two years at Florida

Scottie Lewis heads to the NBA to try and play after two seasons of college in which he didn’t exactly live up to his five-star billing.

Name: Scottie Lewis

Number: 23

Position: Guard

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6’5″

Weight: 189 lbs

Hometown: Hazlet, N.J.

High School: Ranney School

Twitter: @Scottie23L

2020 statistics:

GP FG% REB AST PTS
21 44.5 3.1 1.5 7.9

Overview:

Lewis committed to the Gators as a five-star recruit and the No. 7 overall player in the country (according to the 247Sports Composite), making him the highest-rated recruit coach Mike White has ever signed at Florida. Naturally, expectations were high early on for Lewis.

His freshman year was a bit up-and-down. Though he averaged just 8.5 points, he scored in double figures 10 times and scored at least 15 points six times. He really shined on the defensive end, though, becoming the first guard in program history to lead the team in blocks, totaling 36. His season-high in scoring (19) came in the final game against Kentucky in the final game of the season before the season was canceled.

Lewis made headlines off the court during the COVID-19 pandemic for his leadership during the summer’s unrest, speaking at a protest by players in Downtown Gainesville voicing their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

When the Gators returned to the court this fall, it was with Lewis in a preeminent role. But after starting the first eight games, he only started one more the rest of the way. His scoring average decreased to 7.9, and though he averaged 3.1 rebounds, his blocks dropped to just 22.

Following a disappointment of a sophomore season in which he was expected to take a major leap forward, Lewis decided to cut his losses and declare for the draft with an agent, ending his college eligibility. Though he’s a talented player that could develop into something special with the right coaching, his career at UF didn’t live up to the hype.

2021 aggregate NBA mock draft 4.0: Checking in after March Madness

Which future NBA players played the best during March Madness? Who has made the most significant improvements to their draft stock since our last update?

Which future NBA players played the best during March Madness? Which prospects made the most significant improvements to their draft stock?

In order to get a better sense of where all of the prospects stand right now, we compiled mock drafts from ESPNNBADraft.netCBS SportsBleacher ReportSports IllustratedYahooThe Athletic, SB Nation and USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s For The Win to see where the prospects rank at the moment.

Since our previous update last month, these are the players who have improved their stock and are trending up on mock drafts: Davion Mitchell (Baylor), Josh Giddey (Adelaide), Chris Duarte (Oregon), Miles McBride (West Virginia), Aaron Henry (Michigan State), Bennedict Mathurin (Arizona), Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine), Trey Murphy (Virginia) and Neemias Queta (Utah State).

Some of the names that did not make the list last time but now appear among the Top 60 include Isaiah Todd (G League Ignite), Johnny Juzang (UCLA), Max Abmas (Oral Roberts), RaiQuan Gray (Florida State), Santi Aldama (Loyola Maryland and Austin Reaves (Oklahoma).

Below are the full rankings based on the latest mock drafts from top analysts and experts.

HoopsHype’s Alberto de Roa contributed research to this report

2021 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Latest updates after March Madness

Front offices have seen what some of the best prospects in the 2021 NBA Draft have done on the biggest stage.

Now that the NCAA tournament is in the rearview mirror, front offices have seen what the best prospects in the 2021 NBA Draft have done on the biggest stage.

With a new champion crowned, fans have seen the first wave of prospects declare early entry for the draft and forego the remainder of their collegiate eligibility. Others, meanwhile, are testing the waters to gain feedback from teams around the league as they decide whether or not to return to college.

Based on the general consensus learned thus far, now is a great time to offer an update since we last published a mock draft back in February.

The main difference from the big board that I published last month is that my mock also factors intel, team fit, front office evaluation philosophy and roster construction. For example, there are more international players included here because I’m projecting teams with surplus picks will select draft-and-stash players rather than roster four or five rookies next season.

This should act as a barometer for a player’s stock before pre-draft workouts, interviews and the 2021 NBA Draft Combine. As those factors come into the light over the next few months, expect some potentially significant changes.

This draft order, which factors in trades and pick protections, was pulled from the latest Tankathon update following the games on April 12.
