NFL Top 10 jersey sales in June features two former Alabama players

Jalen Hurts and Bryce Young both in NFL’s top 10 of jersey sales for the month of June

One of the coolest things about becoming an NFL quarterback, and there are many, is that you get to see your name on thousands of jerseys across the country. In the case of long-term players like Tom Brady, he would have likely sold millions of jerseys over the course of his 23-year career.

While it doesn’t really mean much at the end of the day, it is still an honor to rank at the top of the NFL’s jersey sales. In this past month of June, two former Alabama players made the NFL top 10 in jersey sales in [autotag]Jalen Hurts[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag]. Hurts actually led the entire league in the month while Young had the ninth most sales.

Hurts has quickly become one of the most beloved players in the league from his cool off-the-field demeanor to his All-Time performance in the Super Bowl. He became the NFL’s highest-paid player, briefly, this off-season before being surpassed by the Ravens Lamar Jackson. The Eagles look to be back in the Super Bowl conversation in 2023 and Jalen Hurts looks to improve on his MVP runner-up season from last year.

For Young, he is the only rookie on the list and only trailing behind guys like Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow. Funny enough, the No. 8 spot on the list belongs to Brady and his Bucs jersey as he rides off into retirement. The Panthers’ teal blue shade makes for an attractive-looking uniform, but Young is another high IQ and good valued kid that fans can rally behind.

I think that Hurts will stay high on this list for the majority of the season while Young is only going to get to become more of a household name as the season goes on.

Drew Lock, Jerry Jeudy make NFLPA’s ‘Rising Stars’ list

Players on the list are poised to have breakout seasons, gain fan support and rank among the top-sellers of player merchandise.

Denver Broncos second-year quarterback Drew Lock and rookie wide receiver Jerry Jeudy are both on the NFL Players Association’s Rising Stars List.

“The annual NFLPA Rising Stars list identifies top Rookies and Veterans poised to have breakout seasons, gain fan support and ultimately rank among the top-sellers of all officially licensed player merchandise,” the NFLPA says on its website.

Jeudy is the fifth-ranked rookie on the list, behind Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Tua Tagovailo and CeeDee Lamb. Lock is the ninth-ranked veteran on the list, behind Nick Chubb, Aaron Jones, D.K. Metcalf, Marquise Brown, Deebo Samuel, Jaylon Smith, Raheem Mostert and Damien Williams.

Making the list could prove to be financially beneficial for Lock and Jeudy.

“This year’s Rising Stars will provide partners with a valuable resource for planning licensed product lines, evaluating potential brand ambassadors, launching social media campaigns, developing new player-focused content, and creating marketing and promotion strategies for the upcoming season,” the NFLPA said in a press release.

Lock will serve as Denver’s starting quarterback this season and Jeudy is expected to serve as the No. 2 wide receiver behind Courtland Sutton.

Saints could lose more than $440 million playing in stadiums without fans

The Covid-19 novel coronavirus pandemic has hit America hard, but it might hit the NFL and the New Orleans Saints in their pockets soon.

[jwplayer nHF5z6QT-ThvAeFxT]

Forbes’ Darren Heitner estimates that the New Orleans Saints could lose as much as $161 million in direct stadium revenue, and an even larger total of $441 million should the entire 2020 season be played without fans in attendance.

It’s tough to imagine the Mercedes-Benz Superdome sitting eerily quiet while Drew Brees takes the field for maybe the last time, but it just goes to show the lengths to which the novel coronavirus pandemic has altered American life.

Playing NFL games without fans would affect every team, but New Orleans stands to lose more than most due to its economic reliance on the tourism and hospitality sector. Games played in the Superdome are a huge draw for NFL fans around the country, and losing those visitors’ dollars would only compound a crisis the city is already dealing with.

And it might be the lesser of two evils. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has said that she’ll defer to the league’s judgment, but she believes playing in empty stadiums would be the safest course of action to prevent the spread of infections and potentially save lives.

The long-term impacts of this lost NFL revenue is yet to be determined, but it might be the first real hurdle faced by Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and his team in working around the salary cap.

Led by cap guru Khai Hartley, the Saints front office has navigated the always-rising salary cap with ease, knowing that increases in future years gives them resources to work with in the present. But if the cap were to fall instead due to decreased revenue, they might struggle to retain as many players while adding free agents next year.

Hopefully this doesn’t come to pass. But until widespread testing and a vaccine for Covid-19 are available, it’s tough to see NFL stadiums opening their doors to tens of thousands of fans any time soon.

Redskins’ Chase Young among top selling jerseys since NFL draft

Young is the best draft pick for the Redskins in years, and the fans agree, seeing as they’ve made his jersey one of top sellers in the NFL.

For the first time in a long time, the fanbase for the Washington Redskins experiences a surge of hope in the past few weeks. It came on the night of April 23rd, when the Redskins used their No. 2 overall pick to draft Ohio State DE Chase Young — undoubtedly the best player in the draft.

Now it seems that those fans are looking to capture that feeling and give themselves a physical reminder of the joy by purchasing Young’s jersey, as it has popped up as one of the top-selling jersey’s in the NFL, according to NFL Shop jersey sales, tracked by Fanatics. Young’s jersey is on the list of top sellers on the site, though it is inexplicably a No. 1 Chase Young jersey, rather than the No. 99 that he plans to wear.

Regardless, it appears that Redskins fans are thrilled about the pick, and they’re waiting to welcome Chase to the #HTTR family with open arms once the season gets rolling.
