Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (24-31) and San Francisco Giants (28-27) close out a four-game set at Oracle Park with a Thursday matinee at 3:45 p.m. ET. Below we break down Rockies-Giants MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Giants: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez vs. RHP Kevin Gausman

Gonzalez has made three starts and two relief appearances in 2020. The 28-year-old journeyman owns a Boeing ERA (7.53) and a 1.53 WHIP.

  • Lasted just one-third of an inning, allowing four runs on no hits, three walks and a hit-batter, in his only other road start this season (Sept. 8 at the San Diego Padres).

Gausman owns a 3.76 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings. The veteran righty has allowed just two earned runs on three hits over his last 12 innings.

  • Has a 4.50 ERA at home, but that’s a figure artificially bloated by a .368 BABIP. Gausman has fanned 14.5 batters per nine over 36 frames at Oracle.
  • Has added velocity in 2020 and is holding dangerous contact at bay while punching out 11.9 batters per nine.

Money line (ML)

San Francisco (-239) has the edge in the starter department, and Colorado (+210) is 8-15 with a .660 OPS over its last 23 games. SKIP the money line, and leverage the run line.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Gonzalez was banged around by the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last start, yielding barreled-up baseballs at a hefty clip en route to allowing 3 ER in 5 IP. Make a play on SAN FRANCISCO -1.5 (-121) in what sets up as a double-digit scoring environment despite the venue’s lean as a pitcher’s park.

Over/Under (O/U)

There is value on the OVER 8.5 (-121). A breeze-out-to-center afternoon and a humid day play into pitching uncertainty and a surging Giants offense that doesn’t get enough credit for what its accomplished over the second half of a truncated season. San Francisco has averaged 5.5 runs per game on the strength of an .834 OPS over its last 34 games.

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (24-30) and San Francisco Giants (27-27) meet for the third tilt in their four-game series at Oracle Park Wednesday at 9:45 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockies-Giants MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Giants: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Ryan Castellani vs. RHP Logan Webb

Castellani owns a 5.59 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through nine games (8 starts). The Rockies’ rookie hurler coughed up 2 homers in a 4 1/3-inning start on Friday, and he totes a 2.6 HR/9 figure into this start.

  • Has been shellacked in his hitter-happy home yard (6.66 ERA at Coors Field) but owns a 3.77 ERA on the road.

Webb has posted a 5.73 ERA in trying to navigate the choppy waters of a 1.52 WHIP. The 23-year-old sophomore (5.22 ERA in 2019) has made 11 starts this season.

  • Is coming off a rocky outing at the Oakland A’s (6 ER in 3 1/3 IP) and has logged an 8.86 ERA over his last 5 starts.

Money line (ML)

Webb does a nice job limiting bullet contact, but the young Giants hurler has been undone by a .345 BABIP and a crazy low left-on-base rate and a .379 BABIP in leadoff-inning situations. Is he contributing to his troubles with too many walks (4.2 BB/9 last 5 starts)? Yes, but the leadoff and LOB numbers are crushing his ERA. Scouts like his off-speed stuff, and his slider-change combo cuts into major deficiencies of the Colorado attack.

SAN FRANCISCO (-189) is the lean but a moderate one at best. Waiting out a potential price drop is advisable.

New to sports betting? Every winning $18.90 bet on the Giants ML will profit $10. Every $10 bet on the Rockies (+170) profits $17 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Avoid the temptation to leverage a positive number on the Giants. A banged-up offense could be scratching and clawing for every run Wednesday night. Pass on San Francisco -1.5 (+105).

Over/Under (O/U)

Swim upstream on the surface ERAs and a batter-friendly weather report, and take the UNDER 9 (-110). Consider holding out for an extra half-run on the total.

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (24-29) and San Francisco Giants (26-27) hook up for Game 2 of a four-game series Tuesday at Oracle Park with the first pitch scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockies-Giants MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Monday: The Rockies won the series opener 7-2, hurting the Giants’ position in the NL wild-card race. San Francisco is a half game back out of the final playoff spot, while Colorado is 2½ back.

Rockies at Giants: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Kyle Freeland vs. LHP Drew Smyly

Freeland has rebounded from a disastrous 2019 campaign (6.73 ERA across 22 starts) by boasting a 3.75 ERA through 11 starts this season, albeit with a 6.2 K/9.

  • Made four starts on the road this season, posting a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings and allowing just two homers.
  • Faced the Giants twice this season, yielding 7 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings for a 7.27 ERA. He’s allowed 19 base runners, while striking out only 4.

Smyly missed more than a month with a finger injury, so he has been limited to just five appearances (three starts) this season. The skills have been impressive, though, and he brings a 3.94 ERA and 15.2 K/9 into Tuesday’s start.

  • Has yet to go more than four innings this season, but still managed to rack up 8 strikeouts in each of his last two outings.
  • The vast majority of the damage against him has come on the road. In three home starts, he has recorded a 3.71 ERA, and for his career, he has fared much better at home (3.85 ERA vs 5.01 on road).

Prediction

Giants 5, Rockies 3

Money line (ML)

  • Rockies (+140)
  • Giants (-154)

Both starters have been pitching well lately, but the Giants have the edge on offense. They rank third in wRC+ against left-handed pitching, and have had success against Freeland both times they have faced him this season.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 22nd in wRC+ vs lefties, and 27th in the category on the road. Look for the GIANTS (-154) to come out on top.

New to sports betting? Every winning $15.40 bet on the Giants ML will profit $10. Every $10 bet on the Rockies profits $14 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Rockies +1.5 (-162)
  • Giants -1.5 (+135)

While the Giants are likely to win the game, they aren’t a good bet to blow it wide open. It stands a pretty strong chance of being close throughout, so the recommendation here is to AVOID the run line.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 7.5 (-110)
  • Under 7.5 (-110)

Freeland has had a good year, and Smyly has been dominant lately and is facing a weak offense without their star third baseman. Even so, you would expect a higher total on Freeland vs Smyly.

The San Francisco bats should have a decent day, and while Smyly should be solid, he isn’t likely to work deep into the game. When he departs, he’ll turn things over to a below average relief corps (19th in ERA, 26th in xFIP). This won’t be a real high scoring game, but enough runs should be scored to push the total OVER 7.5.
