Seahawk Chad Wheeler released on bond after domestic violence arrest

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Chad Wheeler was arrested for suspected felony domestic violence and released on a $400,000 bond.

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Chad Wheeler was arrested on suspected felony domestic violence in Kent over the weekend and was placed in King County Jail early Saturday morning.

After an initial court hearing on Monday, he received an order to relinquish all weapons and not come in contact with his girlfriend, the alleged victim in the matter. He was released from jail after posting a $400,000 bond on Tuesday.

The details of the incident are disturbing and detailed in a report obtained by the Seattle Times.

Wheeler is an impending restricted free agent, but may not be in the Emerald City for much longer if this incident is any indication.

In addition, he played in the final five games of the 2020 season in relief of Jamarco Jones and others with little success, which only raises the skepticism regarding his future in the NFL.

Seahawks wide receiver David Moore has agreed to restructured contract

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver David Moore has agreed to a restructured contract which reworks his restricted free agent tender terms.

The Seattle Seahawks were likely able to clear up some cash on Saturday morning with a little help from wide receiver David Moore, who agreed to restructure his contract.

“Seahawks WR David Moore, who was on an RFA tender worth $2.13M, has agreed to a reworked contract and will stay in Seattle, source said,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted Saturday morning. “He’ll sign his new deal this morning.”

Rapoport did not provide the terms of the new deal but ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported it is only for one year, making Moore an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2020 season.

Moore has been climbing the ranks during practice over the last few weeks with a number of receivers sitting out due to injuries, including Phillip Dorsett II, who has been battling a sore foot.

Seahawks make defensive end Branden Jackson re-signing official

The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced the re-signing of defensive end Branden Jackson, who had been released on July 26.

The Seattle Seahawks released defensive end Branden Jackson less than two weeks ago and now he’s once again a member of the roster.

The Seahawks public relations department tweeted the news on Thursday afternoon. Jackson’s potential re-signing was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport earlier this week.

The Seahawks now have one spot open on the 80-man roster.

Jackson originally joined the Seahawks in 2017 as a member of the practice squad before his eventual promotion to the active roster. He had re-signed his restricted free agent tender in April before he was released on July 26.

The terms of his new deal, however, will likely be less than the $2.133 million value of his restricted free agent tender.

Last season for Seattle, Jackson started three of 15 games played, logging 20 tackles, two passes defended and two sacks on the year.

Seahawks planning to re-sign defensive end Branden Jackson

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to new terms with defensive end Branden Jackson, who was released just a little over a week ago.

The Seattle Seahawks are quickly bringing a familiar face back into the mix after releasing him just over a week ago. Seattle is planning to re-sign defensive end Branden Jackson, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“That was fast: The #Seahawks are re-signing DE Branden Jackson, source said,” Rapoport tweeted Monday morning. “He actually was just released by Seattle more than a week ago, but will re-sign under a different deal on Wednesday when he clears protocol.”

The new terms will likely be less than the $2.133 million Jackson was would have commanded on his restricted free agent tender and will save Seattle some cap space.

Jackson originally joined the Seahawks as a member of the practice squad in 2017 before ultimately being promoted to the active roster. For Seattle last year, Jackson started three of 15 regular-season games played and logged 2.0 sacks.

Jackson will have to clear the COVID-19 testing protocol before he can participate in team activities.

Branden Jackson could be cap casualty for Seahawks

Branden Jackson is under contract for $2.13 million, money the Seahawks could look to use elsewhere after making multiple additions at DE.

The Seattle Seahawks have a full 90-man roster and limited cap space remaining after recently finalizing contracts for Bruce Irvin, Carlos Hyde and Geno Smith.

However, that doesn’t mean they are done signing folks in free agency. And with plenty of talented players still available on the open market, the Seahawks could definitely find ways to shed some salary in order to make an addition or two before camp is set to begin in late July.

One way they could do so is by cutting veteran defensive end Branden Jackson. Jackson signed his restricted free agent tender back in April, bringing him back to the Seahawks and paying him $2.13 million in 2020.

While that’s not a huge some of money by any means, it would give the team slightly more wiggle room if they wanted to pursue a defensive tackle like Mike Daniels or Damon Harrison.

Jackson appeared in 15 games last year, recording 20 combined tackles, two passes defended and two sacks as a reserve five-tech. Seattle has yet to make a big signing to bolster their pass rush, but the additions of Irvin, Benson Mayowa and two draft picks: Darrell Taylor and Alton Robinson, may be enough to push Jackson out of the rotation.

If Jackson cannot earn a spot over the newcomers, as well as returners like L.J. Collier and Rasheem Green, then Seattle will likely cut ties in order to use that cap space elsewhere.

Wide Receiver David Moore could be cap casualty for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks could cut David Moore this offseason and save $2.13 million in cap space to put toward a new defensive lineman.

Despite beginning the offseason with a plethora of cap space, the Seattle Seahawks have seen their available money dwindle through a series of small signings, including the recent additions of Carlos Hyde and Geno Smith.

However, they still have yet to make a big splash on the defensive line market, where Jadeveon Clowney remains alongside other impact pieces like Everson Griffen, Clay Matthews, Mike Daniels and Damon Harrison.

For the Seahawks to make more moves and still retain some cap space heading into the season, something general manager John Schneider has always prioritized, they may have to make more cuts.

There are a handful of ways they could go about clearing out cap space, and one includes letting go of receiver David Moore.

Moore was a seventh round pick in the 2017 NFL draft who signed an original round tender to remain with the Seahawks. The tender will pay him $2.13 million in 2020. While that’s not going to massively change Seattle’s financial outlook, it is enough to help them make an addition to the defensive line, while leaving some room to spare.

Moore is likely competing for the No. 4 receiver spot, behind Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Phillip Dorsett. John Ursua, Freddie Swain, Seth Dawkins and Aaron Fuller are all in the mix as well, and Seattle’s plethora of tight ends could push them to keep one less wide receiver than usual.

All that points to a murky future for Moore in the Emerald City, and with a bigger cap hit than any of the other receivers (outside the top three) he could find himself looking for new employment before the 2020 season begins.

Saints sign Taysom Hill to a contract extension through 2021

The New Orleans Saints signed backup quarterback Taysom Hill to a two-year contract extension, keeping him in town the through 2021 season.

[jwplayer LEUQbks8-ThvAeFxT]

While the New Orleans Saints are still in negotiations with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston (and a deal may not be filed until after an upcoming NFL deadline), the team took action on Sunday to address another quarterback’s contract: Taysom Hill.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Saints signed Hill to a two-year contract extension that effectively adds another season onto the restricted free agent tender Hill was issued earlier this offseason. That one-year contract was valued at around $4.6 million, and while the new terms of his agreement are unclear just yet, it means that Hill will be a member of the Saints at least through the 2021 season.

That’s big for a couple of reasons, and it’s due to the various contract situations in flux in New Orleans. Drew Brees is taking things year-to-year with the Saints and has the option to retire after the upcoming season. Winston is reportedly focusing on a one-year deal with the Saints. Tommy Stevens, the seventh-round draft pick often compared to Hill, will sign a typical four-year rookie contract.

By extending Hill now, the Saints guarantee that they’ll have more than one quarterback signed on to play once the 2020 season wraps up.

Seattle Seahawks finalize 4 signings ahead of 2020 NFL draft

The Seahawks finalized the signings of Bruce Irvin, Joey Hunt, Branden Jackson and Bryan Mone on Thursday, a few hours before the NFL draft.

The Seattle Seahawks continued to make some of their previously announced signings official, reporting the signing of veteran Bruce Irvin and the re-signing of three players from last year’s squad: center Joey Hunt, defensive end Branden Jackson and defensive tackle Bryan Mone.

Irvin’s signing was initially reported in mid-March. The veteran pass rusher was with the Seahawks from 2012-2015 after the team made him their first pick in the 2012 NFL draft, ahead of Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson.

Irvin spent time with the Raiders, Falcons and Panthers after that, but will return to Seattle in a strongside linebacker role, while doing some pass rushing in applicable situations as well.

Hunt and Jackson were both restricted free agents who officially signed their tenders earlier this week. Hunt will compete at center, where he has been the backup since 2016 – even starting eight games last year in Justin Britt’s absence.

Jackson is a reserve defensive end who had two sacks last year and will look to make the team in a similar role again in 2020.

Mone was signed as an undrafted free agent last year, and played sparingly as an interior defensive tackle. He will compete for the snaps vacated by Al Woods this offseason.

The NFL draft will kick off at 5:00 p.m. PT on Thursday, April 23, and the Seahawks presently own one pick, No. 27 overall, in the first round.

Seahawks officially announce David Moore signed his RFA tender

The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced that wide receiver David Moore has signed his restricted free-agent tender.

Wide receiver David Moore beat the Seattle Seahawks to the punch when he posted on Instagram on Sunday that he had signed his restricted free agent tender. The team confirmed the signing on Wednesday afternoon.

Moore was originally selected by the Seahawks at No. 226 overall in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft out East Central University in Oklahoma. He spent the majority of his rookie year on the practice squad before emerging as a target in 2018, when he started seven games.

Last season for Seattle, Moore logged 17 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns.

Moore will continue to compete for the No. 3 receiver spot behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf likely battling with newly-signed receiver Phillip Dorsett.

The Seahawks may very well look to the NFL draft to add more weapons to quarterback Russell Wilson’s arsenal. The completely virtual event kicks off Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN, and the NFL Network.
