Rams grant Allen Robinson permission to seek trade after shopping him

The Rams and Allen Robinson appear headed for a split after just one season

The Los Angeles Rams are already moving on from Bobby Wagner, and they could also part ways with their other big free-agent signing from 2022. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Rams have given Allen Robinson permission to seek a trade.

The team is also willing to pay a portion of his $15.25 million guaranteed salary to make a deal happen because his contract would be tough for any team to absorb after such a disappointing 2022 season.

Ian Rapoport added that the Rams shopped Robinson before the trade deadline last year and did so again in recent weeks, so they’re looking to part ways with the veteran receiver, and Robinson himself seems to want a fresh start, too.

Last season, Robinson caught just 33 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns, missing the final seven games due to a foot injury. He underwent surgery on his foot, which could impact his trade market, too.

The Rams gave Robinson a three-year deal worth $46.5 million last offseason but it clearly didn’t work out the way they hoped. He has cap hits of $18 million and $18.5 million in the next two years, an expensive price to pay for a receiver who has had back-to-back poor seasons.

If the Rams trade him and don’t have to eat any of his salary, they’ll save $6.85 million in cap space this year.

Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie says Nets are smiling a lot after Sunday’s win over the Hornets

Spencer Dinwiddie applauds the Nets for sticking to what works for them and acknowledged that everyone is happy with the progress at the moment.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie usually has a lot to say whether his team wins or loses. Being one of the more thoughtful players in the NBA, Dinwiddie has no issue with giving detailed answers about what he sees on the floor or what his team has to work on.

“I think the vibes are good, I think everybody is kind of starting to settle in, you’re seeing a lot of smiles out there, which is good,” Dinwiddie said after scoring 24 points in Sunday’s 102-86 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Dinwiddie, who also had eight rebounds and eight assists, was very complimentary of his teammates despite the second half being a bit of a let down. “We’re kind of knowing Hey, okay, you know, calcium score, spin is gonna get in the lane. And then plan advantage basketball, right?”

Sunday’s game against the Hornets was one of the easiest games that this Nets group has had given how much Charlotte struggles on the defensive end. Even though Brooklyn scored just 102 points, they still held the Hornets to 86 points on 37.5% shooting from the field. It’s clear that Brooklyn is starting to settle into what works for them and the players are starting to understand and embrace their roles.

Four players who could make great strides in spring practice

Look for these four players to make a name for themselves during Auburn football’s spring period.

Spring football is officially here, which means it is time for many players to step up and make a name for themselves.

Many fans will be watching the battles at quarterback and running back this spring, but there are a few individuals that could make great strides during this period, thus creating opportunities to earn playing time in the fall.

The opportunity is there for everyone to earn a role within the team, as head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] says that there is no depth chart. Which players could make the most of the spring? An Auburn beat writer has a few ideas.

Richard Silva, the Auburn beat writer for the Montgomery Advertiser, has shared four players that have the most to gain during this stretch due to their personal situations. Here’s a breakdown of who Silva says should make the most of spring practice.

Nets’ Mikal Bridges credits team for ‘staying level-headed’ in win over Hornets

Mikal Bridges credits the Nets for staying level-headed in Sunday’s win over the Charlotte Hornets.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets forward Mikal Bridges has been on a tear for the Nets lately. In his first nine games with Brooklyn, Bridges is averaging 26.1 points per game while shooting 53.6% from the field and 50% from three-point land as he has been the first option for the Nets since the trades of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

“Just staying together the whole time,” Bridges, who scored 33 points in Sunday’s 102-86 win over the Charlotte Hornets, said when asked what allowed the Nets to finish the win. “Not getting too worried. Just staying here (in the game) at all times. And, that’s the biggest thing just you know, about to be on the road, there’s gonna be runs, the crowd’s gonna get into it. But, we just stay level-headed. As you get ready for the next play, I think that’s gonna help us.”

After leading by as many 37 points in the contest, Brooklyn took its foot off the gas in the second half and allowed Charlotte to get the score 96-82 with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter. However, the Nets had enough of a cushion to hold off the Hornets and walk away with a double-digit win.

7 takeaways from the top RB, OL performances at NFL Combine

We’re looking at takeaways and observations from the running back and offensive line workouts at the 2023 NFL scouting combine

The Eagles and 31 other teams were in Indianapolis for the 2023 NFL scouting combine, and all eyes Sunday were on the running backs and offensive linemen portion of the workouts.

Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders and Boston Scott are both slated for free agency along with 9 key contributors on defense.

It won’t be possible for the Eagles to bring them all back, especially once Jalen Hurts signs his new deal.

With Philadelphia potentially targeting a running back in April’s draft, names like Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Zach Charbonnet were on display.

Here are seven takeaways from the final day of the scouting combine.

CU Buffs set to open Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament vs. Washington on Wednesday

Colorado is set to face Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament. Here’s what you should know about the Huskies:

A trip to Sin City is on the horizon for the Colorado Buffaloes, as they’ll begin their quest for a Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament title on Wednesday afternoon against Washington in Las Vegas.

The No. 9 seed Buffs (16-15, 8-12 Pac-12) come into their matchup against the No. 8 Huskies (16-15, 8-12) needing to go on an impressive run in order to continue their season beyond these next few days in Las Vegas.

Colorado will have to do it without point guard KJ Simpson, who will be out for the tournament due to an illness.

Because of that, expect for Julian Hammond III and Ethan Wright to shoulder more of the load for the Buffs on Wednesday.

Even though Simpson will be sidelined, Colorado will still get help from the ever-reliable Tristan da Silva and Lawson Lovering — the latter has been impressive defensively in a bigger role this season.

For Washington, inconsistency has also been an issue this season. The Huskies tallied an impressive win over Saint Mary’s in November, had a five-game losing streak in late December and into January and ended the regular season with losses against  Stanford and Washington State.

Offensively, they’re rather limited, with senior forward Keion Brooks responsible for a team-leading 17.8 points per game. Beyond him, Keyon Menifield puts up 10 per contest is the only other Huskies player averaging double figures.

Jamal Bey is another name to look out for on Washington, as he can be explosive at times and is a good mid-range shooter as well.

Ultimately, it could prove difficult for the undermanned Buffs to beat a Washington squad that they’ve lost to twice this season, but they do still have the talent to keep it close and potentially pull off a win.

Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.

4 takeaways from the Eagles parting ways with DB Coach Dennard Wilson

We’re looking at four key takeaways from the Eagles parting ways with defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Dennard Wilson

The Eagles appear headed for a complete defensive overhaul.

With Sean Desai landing the job as defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach, and passing game coordinator Dennard Wilson has decided the part ways with the franchise.

Wilson got his start as a scout for the Bears in 2006 and he’s been climbing the ranks since then. Before joining Sirianni’s staff, Wilson was the defensive passing game coordinator for the New York Jets and helped develop Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye.

This season he led a group that’s among the NFL’s best and Wilson was a huge part of Reed Blankenship’s development as a rookie.

During the coaching cycle, Wilson interviewed for the Browns defensive coordinator job that went to former Eagles assistant coach Jim Schwartz.

Things could get interesting over the next few weeks and we’re looking at four takeaways from the move.

Taysom Hill has made more money in the NFL than Lamar Jackson

Taysom Hill has made more money from his Saints contracts in the NFL than Lamar Jackson has gotten from the Ravens. But that’s about to change in a big way:

Few NFL players have had their contract scrutinized as closely as Taysom Hill. The New Orleans Saints utility player is bringing home $10 million each season on his current four-year deal with the black and gold, which is 13th among tight ends around the league (the position he lines up more frequently than anywhere else, also splitting time in the slot as a receiver, on special teams with the punt units, and in the backfield at fullback and occasionally quarterback).

All told, Hill has made $32,770,000 through six years in the NFL, per Over The Cap, with all but $5,000 coming from the Saints; the Green Bay Packers guaranteed him just five grand as an undrafted free agent out of BYU. He’s done well for himself in finding a role on a creative coaching staff, and it’s put him on the map.

That’s not stopping some pocket-watching, though. With high-profile franchise quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson working to secure their own payday, Hill is an easy target — the Gaming Society’s Kate Magdziuk pointed out that he’s earned almost exactly as much money as Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens franchise quarterback and 2019 league MVP has made $32,487,652 through five years in the league, per Over The Cap. It’s a difference of $312,348 between a player who has scored 42 touchdowns and played a combined 2,637 snaps in his career on offense and special teams (Hill) and another player who has scored 124 touchdowns while playing 4,009 snaps in his (Jackson). Jackson is unquestionably a more accomplished and more effective player, and it’s a shame that his pay doesn’t reflect that.

But this isn’t a very good comparison. The NFL collective bargaining agreement established a controversial rookie wage scale a decade ago that locked Jackson into a low-cost, four-year deal with a fifth year option once the Ravens drafted him. Because Hill was an undrafted free agent, he initially signed a modest three-year deal, re-signed with the Saints as a restricted free agent, and later inked another extension at his current level of pay.

Jackson is hard at work negotiating his own long-term deal, and he’ll be making more per-year than Hill has brought in during the entire course of his NFL career. If the rookie wage scale worked differently and set Jackson up for a lucrative second contract earlier, as was the case for Hill, he would have already signed the landmark deal he’s seeking. But the system is what it is. Hill was able to benefit from circumstances that many players haven’t been able to, and he’s still an important part of what the Saints are hoping to achieve. Jackson is on the way to receiving what’s owed to him, too. But will it happen in Baltimore?
