Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 19

Here are the three players who have worn the No. 19 in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 19 which has been worn by three of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the 22 players who have worn the No. 20.

Here is the list of the three who have worn No. 19 in Sixers history:

As we begin to approach the end of the regular season, many players around the league are finalizing their case for their value in free agency.

Of course, executives around the league always have tough decisions to make about who they plan to re-sign as well as who they plan to pursue or let walk during free agency. But as the season progresses, it becomes a bit easier to evaluate who would be a good fit for their franchise and who might not be.

As part of our ongoing series at HoopsHype, we are looking at whose free agency stock has gone up – and down – over the last several games.

Report: Raul Neto leaves Sixers, will sign a 1-year deal with Wizards

Raul Neto will leave the Philadelphia 76ers to go sign with the Washington Wizards.

The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to revamp their team after a tough 2019-20 season on the floor where they fell short of any expectations they had for themselves. They made some big front office changes and they have since then made big roster changes.

With those roster changes, that means there will not be too much turn over following the moves made. For example, Alec Burks is gone and off to the New York Knicks as he continues his career.

Now, Raul Neto will move on to the next chapter of his career.

Neto was signed to a minimum deal in 2019 with Philadelphia, but he is now moving on to the Washington Wizards. He averaged 5.1 points and 1.8 assists in his lone season with the Sixers.

The Sixers have done a complete roster and organization overhaul and Neto was just a part of that. The Wizards now offer a chance for him to have more playing time and be able to build his career a bit more. [lawrence-related id=39337,39338,39334]

Philadelphia 76ers 2019-20 season in review: Raul Neto

We now review the 2019-20 season for Philadelphia 76ers guard Raul Neto.

[jwplayer bKE2pMUe-z6KDnl0B]

Every team in the NBA has that third point guard who will run the offense and just play his role. That guy can be sometimes forgotten, but when he does enter the game, he can sometimes make a difference.

Raul Neto was that third point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019-20 season and he was flip-flopping between the second string and the third string, but he always stayed ready. He was not flashy, he would make mistakes, but he was reliable when called upon during the season.

2019-20 season averages

5.1 points

1.8 assists

1.1 rebounds

45.5% overall percentage

38.6% from deep

Neto was signed to a 1-year deal in order to just keep things running smoothly on the floor. He did so as he was just really solid on the offensive end and he was a reliable 3-point shooter. If he had an open look, he would knock it down.

Defensively, he had his issues and he was not used correctly at times. For example, former coach Brett Brown turned to him in Game 2 of the playoffs and that was not a good matchup for him. With Philadelphia leading, they should have kept their foot on the gas and gone to a more offensive-minded Alec Burks. Neto got a lot of blame for that loss and while he did not play well, he probably should not have been called upon to begin with.

In the playoffs, he did play two games against the Boston Celtics. He finished with a total of eight points and three assists with one turnover while he shot 2-for-5 from deep. For all intent and purposes, he really did his job. It’s not like Philadelphia expected him to be a star or anything. He was just solid.

As mentioned, Neto is a free agent this offseason. He most likely will not be brought back as the Sixers look for an upgrade at the backup point guard position such as D.J. Augustin or players of that nature. If brought back, it will be on another 1-year minimum deal. [lawrence-related id=37490,37487,37483]

Brett Brown explains his reasoning for going to Raul Neto over Alec Burks

Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown explains why he went with Raul Neto over Alec Burks in the second quarter.

The Philadelphia 76ers needed a win on Wednesday night to avoid 0-2 hole in the NBA Playoffs, but they could not stop Jayson Tatum and they fell to the Boston Celtics 128-101.

There was one stretch in the second quarter when coach Brett Brown turned to Raul Neto over Alec Burks to run the offense and his run was very detrimental for the team’s efforts. He was a minus-14 in his first nine minutes when Philadelphia blew a double-digit lead and he finished with a minus-17 on the night.

That begs the question, why turn to Neto over Burks who had such a solid Game 1? Burks is a big piece of what the Sixers plan to do on offense.

“We were going to give him just a little clump of minutes,” explained Brown. “If you look at how we’re substituting, there’s a method to the madness trying to see when Jayson’s (Tatum) in the game, when Kemba’s (Walker) in the game, and when they’re not, you come in with different pairings and with Raul, we thought we could give him just a quick burst.”

Neto finished the night with five points, three assists, and two rebounds on a night where the Sixers could have used Burks’ big offensive game. Burks only played 15:48 and had two points and shot 1-for-8 from the floor as he was not able to get into a rhythm after playing 27 minutes in Game 1.

“We thought he played well,” Brown said of Neto. “He came in and he had an assist, he made a shot, he had a little bit of spark with the pace and that group that he played with, I think it benefits from a breakaway faster point guard so we ended up deciding to go with him longer than we anticipated, but we did it for that reason.”

It will be interesting to see what Brown does with the backup point guard spot in Game 3 as the Sixers look to avoid an 0-3 hole. [lawrence-related id=36991,36987,36984]

New Matisse Thybulle vlog features pool volleyball, gifts from fans

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle shows off some of the lighter moments of the team.

[jwplayer JIHXE8ln-z6KDnl0B]

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle continues to keep fans entertained on the floor with his elite defensive skills and his ability to stay in front of and harass his opponents. However, he also is keeping them entertained with his vlog that has captured the attention of everybody.

In the latest installment of his “Welcome to the Bubble” series, it showed off a lot of the lighter side with the team. Thybulle, Tobias Harris, Raul Neto, and Kyle O’Quinn took their talents to the pool and they decided to have some fun in the water. They had a competition to see who could hold their breath underwater the longest and they played some pool volleyball.

On top of that, the rookie also received some gifts from fans. He was confused about how they got his address, but he is thankful, nonetheless. Two gifts that stood out were a customized jersey from FC Barcelona and a fan named Ryan sent him some custom Black Lives Matter shoes.

Thybulle will have his work cut out for him the rest of the time inside the bubble as he will have to take on some of the game’s best scorers in the playoffs as well as continuing to push out content for his YouTube channel. [lawrence-related id=36874,36870,36865]

3 observations: Alec Burks plays well again, Sixers cruise past Rockets

Led by Alec Burks, Philadelphia 76ers finish off the regular season with a win over the Houston Rockets.

The Philadelphia 76ers finished off the seeding games and the 2019-20 regular season with a matchup with the Houston Rockets on Friday night inside the bubble. The game resulted in a 134-96 win over James Harden and the Rockets to earn a final record of 43-30.

Tobias Harris had 18 points for Philadelphia while Alec Burks had another big game while Joel Embiid had 14 points and six rebounds. Philadelphia shot 18-for-37 from deep in this one as well with Al Horford knocking down two of them

Here are the three observations from this final warmup game before the playoffs:

The reserves make final statements

This was a final audition to coach Brett Brown for players to make their stake in the playoff rotation. Alec Burks will definitely be in the rotation off the bench and he had another solid effort in this one with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists with two steals and he shot 4-for-6 from deep. Matisse Thybulle will definitely be receiving playing time as will Furkan Korkmaz.

However, Brown would like to keep things to nine players. So who earned that final ninth spot? Raul Neto played well again with 14 points and five assists while Mike Scott also played well with 10 points and seven rebounds. This was a solid night for the bench and Brown will definitely have some solid options coming his way in the playoffs.

The final tune-up for Embiid

Despite a lingering ankle injury and a hand injury he suffered in the previous game, the Sixers wanted him to play in this one just to get into a rhythm for the playoffs. He looked like he was engaged in this one from the jump as he was running to the rim and setting himself up underneath the basket to dominate. He did pick up a couple of cheap offensive fouls as the smaller Rockets got under his skin, but the effort and the energy were there in this one despite it being a meaningless game and that is the most important thing.

He got into a little dust-up with Harden in the third quarter and that was something that should catch the interest in a lot of Sixers fans. That shows that he is ready to go and the correct mindset is there. He’s going to need to be mean and nasty against the Celtics.

Richardson’s defense

One underrated piece of this Sixers team heading into the playoffs is the importance of Josh Richardson’s perimeter defense with Ben Simmons likely done for the season. Friday was a huge challenge in the form of quite possibly the best offensive player the game has ever seen in the form of Harden. He was active, he was aggressive, he was strong, and he was really hard to screen. Harden still got his numbers, that’s just who he is as a great player, but Richardson will have a lot of tests coming up against Boston’s wings and this was a nice warmup for him. Sixers love the big bench reaction war with Raptors: ‘It’s fun’

The Philadelphia 76ers love the bench war they got into with the Toronto Raptors.

In an essentially meaningless game on Wednesday night as both teams know their playoff seeding and their opponents at this point in time, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors got into a bench war.

Both teams had their main pieces on the bench and they went deep into their second units to finish the game out. Whenever a player out on the floor had a big moment for either team, their corresponding players on the bench were up, running around, rooting for their teammates, and also getting into it with the opposition.

Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Al Horford, and Josh Richardson were having fun with Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet in poking fun at one another while also rooting for their teammates.

“It’s fun,” said Horford. “We’re in this environment and we need to create our own energy at times and I can speak for the group that it just feels good when we have other guys that don’t play so much normally to be able to get out there and get some time and show what they have. They really stepped up it and it was just fun watching them go.”

Furkan Korkma had 21 points off the bench, Raul Neto added 17, Matisse Thybule had 10, and Mike Scott had 12 while Norvel Pelle also had some big plays. All of that brings joy to the veteran Sixers.

“We’re coming together, we’re having different guys step up because we know we’re going to need everyone,” said Harris. “Tonight, we let the second unit handle business and we’re just bonding and that’s a great thing about this time together as a team. We truly understand that when the playoffs come with our team and our depth, that’s going to be needed throughout our run.”

Coach Brett Brown loves the idea of his team coming together, especially amid the chemistry issues that the team has had to endure throughout the season.

“There is an accumulated relational side, we’ve all expedited because we’re in the bubble on buses and restaurants in gyms and dormitories, if you will, together,” Brown explained. “I think that environment produces a chemistry that is hard to manufacture and so I think that the guys on the bench whether it’s our bench players showing that type of support that type of attitude. How can that not be a good thing?”

The Sixers will most likely be leaning on their bench a bit more on Friday when they take on the Houston Rockets in their final seeding game before the playoffs. [lawrence-related id=36769,36766,36760]

Three observations from Sixers loss to T.J. Warren, Pacers in Orlando

Here are three observations found in the Philadelphia 76ers loss to the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers got back at it on Saturday night when they took on the Indiana Pacers looking to get off on the right foot, but it did not work out in their favor. Indiana forced a large number of turnovers and they raced out to an early lead on their way to a 127-121 win over Philadelphia.

T.J. Warren—who has been a thorn in the side of the Sixers all season—scored 29 points in the first half on his way to 53 for the game and Philadelphia just was not able to find an answer for him at all on this night.

With that said, here are three observations that were seen in this loss for Philadelphia:

Turnovers

Coach Brett Brown was very wary of turnovers heading into this matchup due to the smaller Pacers wanting to get out and run. Philadelphia committed 14 turnovers in the first half which allowed Indiana to get out and run and in the lead at halftime. Shake Milton got off to a tough start which then led to a heated verbal exchange with Joel Embiid. He then got into foul trouble and that led to a lot of Raul Neto minutes.

In the second half, Philadelphia was able to figure out their issues and they were able to creep back into the game which then led to a lead of six after three. They only had four turnovers in the quarter mostly with Neto running things on offense. Milton then came back in and while he did not commit a turnover the rest of the way, he did not make the same impact expected of him. He finished scoreless and three assists with the three turnovers. The team finished with 21 turnovers on the night.

Double teams

As expected, Indiana sent waves of double teams and defenders towards Embiid. It was a mixed bag in terms of results as there were times when he was able to attack relentlessly and then there were times where he did not react quick enough and he had a bad turnover. He also had four assists so that is something positive he can take moving forward.

Overall, Embiid was something special on the offensive end. Indiana only had Myles Turner to throw at him and he feasted with an array of post moves and just sheer force on his way to a huge night. Without Domantas Sabonis, that was exactly what he was supposed to do in this type of game. He finished with 41 points, 21 rebounds, and three blocks with the four assists.

Tobias Harris’ versatility

Harris had a really solid night overall. There were plenty of instances where he threw the offense on his back and kept them afloat when things weren’t going so well in the first half. He was aggressive taking 29 shots on the night and taking a good amount of 3-pointers with eight to score 30 points.

Defensively, he wasn’t awful. Sure, he got torched a few times by Warren, but everybody got torched by Warren on this night. Harris had a steal and a block and he moved his feet well all night long. He took steps forward towards that two-way level Brown wants him at. [lawrence-related id=35959,35953,35945]

Mike Scott, Glenn Robinson III out vs. Pacers, Raul Neto available

Philadelphia 76ers veterans Mike Scott and Glenn Robinson III are out against the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers will officially get back to work on Saturday night when they take on the Indiana Pacers in their restart opener. One thing for certain is big man Joel Embiid will play after missing the team’s final two scrimmage openers. However, they will still be shorthanded.

The team will still be missing key rotational piece Glenn Robinson III to a left hip pointer injury suffered in their second scrimmage game and now they will be missing Mike Scott as well. The gritty veteran will miss the game with right knee soreness and that will put a dent into coach Brett Brown’s rotation.

Raul Neto, who missed the final two scrimmage games with lower back tightness, will return and is available for the game.

This is an important game for the Sixers in terms of seeding as both teams are currently tied for the 5 seed in the East. Indiana holds the tiebreaker after winning two of the first three matchups and that puts pressure on Philadelphia in this one. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST in Orlando.
