Rams restructure Jared Goff’s contract, create $7M in cap space

The Rams have been up against the salary cap all offseason, having very limited room to work with in free agency.
They still managed to re-sign Andrew Whitworth, Austin Blythe and Michael Brockers, while also adding A’Shawn Robinson and Leonard Floyd as free agents.
Floyd and Robinson’s deals became official on Friday. In order to do that, they restructured Jared Goff’s contract – a move that has been discussed for a couple of months.
This isn’t as much as the Rams could have saved had they done this before March 19. If they restructured his deal before that date, they would have saved $16.8 million

Rams release RB Todd Gurley

Less than two years after making Todd Gurley the highest-paid running back in the NFL, the Los Angeles Rams are moving on from him.
The team announced Thursday that it has released the three-time Pro Bowl running back.
Gurley is coming off one of the worst seasons in the NFL, rushing for a career-low 857 yards and 12 touchdowns on 223 carries.
Gurley finishes his decorated Rams career with 5,404 rushing yards, 58 touchdowns, three Pro Bowl selections, two All-Pro nods and one Offensive Player of the Year award.
With Gurley now out of the picture, the Rams will lean on second-year back Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown and potentially a rookie draft pick

Rams are signing OLB Leonard Floyd to 1-year, $10M deal

Not long after Dante Fowler Jr. agreed to a three-year deal with the Falcons, the Rams found his replacement.
According to Adam Schefter, the Rams are signing Leonard Floyd to a one-year deal worth $10 million. The contract can be worth up to $13 million for one season.
That’s a hefty price to pay for a player who was just released by the Bears, but the Rams lacked quality options at outside linebacker with Fowler gone.
Floyd’s sack totals have decreased each year he’s been in the NFL, but he tied a career-high with 12 QB hits in 2019. He did only have three sacks and three tackles for loss, though
