Los Angeles Rams vs New York Giants Game Preview

Why Los Angeles Rams Will Win

Do the Giants have anyone left?

QB Daniel Jones will play after suffering a concussion, but Saquon Barkley is out, the receiving corps is banged up, and it all has to crank up against a Ram offense that’s bombing away at will.

Matthew Stafford has been fantastic. The passing game is rolling past 270 yards per game without a problem, there’s enough from Darrell Henderson, Sony Michel, and the rushing attack to help the cause, and …

New York will have a hard time keeping up. The secondary is allowing close to seven yards per pass, and it’s going to give up at least nine yards per pop this week.

Week 6 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why New York Giants Will Win

The Giants have found ways to at least make things interesting.

The offense hasn’t been consistent, the running game might not be there, and again, there are a whole lot of banged up parts, but Jones has been able to bomb away a bit, too.

The Giants are averaging 7.5 yards per throw and should be able to throw on a Ram defense that’s been underwhelming so far. The third down conversions will be there to keep Stafford off the field, but …

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to take something special for the Giants to keep up, and it starts with Jones avoiding hits and being brilliant. He’ll put up a few yards, and they’ll be in it for a half, but the Ram offense will methodically come up with two nice second half scoring drives to take full control.

That’s when the rushing attack takes over. The Rams will end up with a season high – around 130 yards on the ground.

Rams injury report: Aaron Donald returns to practice Thursday

Aaron Donald returned to practice on Thursday, though he was still limited with a knee injury.

The Rams gave everyone a small scare on Wednesday when they released their first injury report and Aaron Donald’s name was listed. Typically, he’s on the first report of the week due to his typical rest day on Wednesday, but he was tagged with a knee injury this time.

Fortunately, it’s not expected to keep him out of action this weekend against the Giants. He returned to practice on Thursday in a limited capacity and is on track to play in New York, continuing his impressive streak of never missing a game due to injury.

Below is the full injury report for Thursday’s practice, which shows Donald was the only player  who wasn’t a full participant.

Daniel Jones was upgraded to limited as he continues to progress toward playing on Sunday. Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay remain out, however, and are unlikely to play against the Rams.

Rams share striking similarities to 2007 Giants team that won Super Bowl XLII

Are these similarities just coincidental? Or is it a sign of things to come for the Los Angeles Rams?

Expectations weren’t exactly high for the Los Angeles Rams when the season began. They weren’t even in the top half of the NFL in terms of preseason Super Bowl odds. Yet, here they are in the divisional round, getting ready to face the top team in the NFC, the Green Bay Packers.

Once again underdogs, the Rams are hardly expected to advance to the NFC Championship Game. But if they need an example of another underdog story that eventually led to a Super Bowl title, they only need to look back 13 years to the New York Giants.

Like the Rams, the 2007 Giants also went 10-6, were a wild-card team and had to face the top-seeded team in the NFC in the divisional round; New York faced the Cowboys that year. The Giants won three straight road games and made it to Super Bowl XLII, where they stunned the undefeated Patriots.

The Rams are still a long way from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, but they share similarities to that 2007 Giants team that shocked everyone and was the last team standing. Could this be a sign of destiny for Los Angeles? Or are these merely coincidental resemblances to the Eli Manning-led Giants from more than a decade ago?

Jalen Ramsey fined $15.6K, Golden Tate unpunished for Week 4 scuffle

Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald were both slapped with fines from Week 4.

The NFL looked into the scuffle between Jalen Ramsey and Golden Tate after the Rams’ win over the Giants in Week 4, but the league only found one player guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Ramsey has been fined $15,625 for his involvement in the scuffle with Tate after the game. Tate, however, was not fined.

Additionally, Aaron Donald was fined $10,500 for an altercation with Giants center Nick Gates during the game, which drew flags on both players.

Giants coach Joe Judge said his players told him that Tate was only defending himself after Ramsey threw the first punch. Based on the NFL’s punishment decision, perhaps the league came away with the same feeling.

When Ramsey and Tate were each asked about the altercation this week, they both declined to comment. They didn’t want to look back on the incident and said they were preparing for their upcoming opponents.

There is some personal history between the two, with Tate being the uncle to Ramsey’s two daughters.

Rams move up one spot in power rankings after win vs. Giants

The Rams only beat the Giants by eight, but a win is a win.

Whether the Rams beat the Giants by eight or 18, their record would still be the same: 3-1. It wasn’t their prettiest win and it certainly wasn’t by as many points as most people were expecting, but it’s still a victory, nonetheless.

After beating New York 17-9 on Sunday, the Rams have remained in the top 10 of this week’s power rankings at Touchdown Wire. Doug Farrar actually moved the Rams up one spot following the victory, slotting them in at No. 7, which is where the Patriots were last week.

Here’s what Farrar wrote about the Rams, including some concerns about Sean McVay’s offense.

The postgame fight between Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Giants receiver Golden Tate was the big story of the Rams’ eventual 17-9 win over the Giants, but the larger story is that Sean McVay’s offense had better right itself quickly if the Rams are to be competitive through the rest of the season. Yes, Big Blue put up an inspired defensive effort at times, but McVay’s offense put up just 240 yards after totaling 422, 449, and 478 yards in the first three weeks. Maybe it was a case of the Rams playing down to their opponent; perhaps it was letdown after losing to the Bills the Sunday before after erasing a 28-3 deficit and still coming up short. L.A.’s defense should fare well against Washington next week, but the offense needs to figure a few things out.

While it’s troubling that the Rams were only able to beat a winless Giants team by eight points with 240 total yards, it’s not time to panic just yet. The Giants defense deserves some credit for the way it played, holding the Rams in check on the ground.

Not to mention, L.A.’s defense held the Giants to only 295 yards, nine total points and zero touchdowns. McVay and Brandon Staley would like to see more consistency out of their respective units, but the Rams are in good shape heading into Week 5 against Washington.

Elsewhere in the NFC West, the Seahawks remained at No. 5 in this week’s power rankings, while the 49ers dropped one spot to No. 12 and the Cardinals slipped to No. 17 after losing to Carolina.

Final score prediction for Rams vs. Giants in Week 4

The Rams should have no trouble knocking off the Giants on Sunday.

We’re only three weeks into the 2020 season, but the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants are quickly trending in opposite directions. The Rams have looked like one of the 10 best teams in the league, while the winless Giants are in the cellar with their roommates, the New York Jets.

The Rams and Giants will meet for the first time since 2017 on Sunday afternoon in Inglewood, where Los Angeles is a whopping 13.5-point favorite over New York. Although there’s a chance the Giants could cover the spread and keep it to within two scores, there’s almost no doubt the Rams will win this one outright.

Even without Cam Akers and possibly Jordan Fuller, the Rams are a significantly better team than the Giants. New York is without Saquon Barkley, which has left it with the league’s worst rushing attack.

Defensively, the Giants don’t pose much of a threat nor boast much elite talent, which is even more obvious with Jabrill Peppers sidelined due to injury. After gashing a good Bills defense for 167 yards rushing last week, the Rams shouldn’t have any trouble running the ball against New York’s front.

Not to mention, Aaron Donald is sure to wreak havoc against one of the worst interior offensive lines in football, giving him a good chance to record multiple sacks and create game-changing plays against the sometimes-careless Daniel Jones in the pocket.

Expect the Rams to move the ball consistently against New York today, while having very little trouble stopping Jones and the Giants offense. As long as they don’t sleepwalk through this game, the Rams will leave Sunday with a 3-1 record.

Final score prediction: Rams 31, Giants 14

Latest Rams-Giants odds: Betting line moving further in L.A’s favor

The Rams are even larger favorites now than they were when the line opened Monday.

After being underdogs in the first three games of the season, the Los Angeles Rams will be anything but that on Sunday against the Giants. Only one game in Week 4 has a more lopsided spread than Rams-Giants, and it involves another NFC East team, too: the Ravens over Washington.

After opening the week as 12.5-point favorites against the Giants, the Rams are favored by even more as of Friday morning. At BetMGM, Los Angeles is a 13.5-point favorite over New York, which is only a half-point less than Baltimore’s line over Washington.

The over/under in Rams-Giants opened at 48.5 points, but that line has dropped by one point to 47.5. The money line has Los Angeles at -834, meaning you’d have to bet $834 on the Rams to win $100.

No other game in Week 4 has a spread larger than seven points, which puts the Rams and Ravens on another level spread-wise. It’s easy to see why both are huge favorites, given the way they’ve each played through three weeks and how their opponents have performed, too.

The Rams have been favored by at least 10 points eight times since Sean McVay became head coach in 2017, and they went on to win seven of those games, covering the spread six times.

Rams open as huge favorites over Giants in Week 4

The Rams are favorites for the first time this season as they’ll host the Giants on Sunday afternoon.

After being underdogs in each of their first three games, the Los Angeles Rams will be huge favorites in Week 4 against the New York Giants. That comes as no surprise, of course, with the Giants sitting at 0-3 and the Rams looking impressive in the first three weeks of the season – even in their 35-32 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

At BetMGM, the Rams are 12.5-point favorites over the Giants in Week 4 and have a money line of -625. In other words, a $625 bet on the Rams to win outright would return a profit of $100. The over/under for the game is 48.5 points, as well.

In three games, the Giants have scored only 38 points – second-fewest in the NFL, ahead of only the team they share MetLife Stadium with. They’ve only allowed 79 points, which is eight more than the Rams, but New York’s offense has been horrendous, especially with Saquon Barkley out for the year.

The Rams have been double-digit favorites eight times in the Sean McVay era, and if the 12.5-point margin holds up until game time, it’ll be the fourth-largest spread since 2017 in favor of L.A. The Rams’ only loss when favored by at least 10 points in that span came in 2018 when they fell 30-23 to the Eagles after entering as 13.5-point favorites.

Of the eight games where the Rams were double-digit favorites, they covered the spread six times, which is an impressive rate. We’ll see if they can make it seven of nine on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
