Raiders, Browns Week 4 injury report: WR Davante Adams injures hamstring

WR Davante Adams shows up on the Raiders injury report with a hamstring injury

There was no good news on the Raiders Thursday injury report. But there was some potential bad news — Davante Adams injured his hamstring.

Adams appears to have suffered the injury Thursday, causing him to show up as limited on the injury report.

Whether Adams practices on Friday or not will be an indication of the severity of the injury.

Still not practicing for the Raiders on Thursday were Maxx Crosby (ankle), Thayer Munford (knee/ankle), LB Divine Deablo (oblique), and CB DeCamerion Richardson (hamstring).

The Browns, on the other hand, got some good news. Returning to practice were DE Myles Garrett,TE David Njoku, and RB Jerome Ford.

Raiders place S Marcus Epps on injured reserve with ACL injury

Starting safety Marcus Epps is headed to IR with an ACL injury.

Late in the third quarter, Raiders safety Marcus Epps went for a tackle and didn’t get back up. When he lunged for the tackle, his leg gave out without contact. Those are often the scariest injuries. Epps limped off the field and headed for the locker room.

Today the team placed him on injured reserve, and reports say he tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Epps was in his second season with the Raiders as their full time starting strong safety. He was a valuable piece to the Raiders defense last season as a free agent signing from the Eagles and was looking to earn an extension or a new deal after this season.

Replacing Epps in the lineup was third year safety Isaiah Pola-Mao.

The former undrafted free agent out of USC was the team’s ‘big nickel’ and primary backup at both safety spots.

To fill Epps’s spot on the roster, the Raiders signed CB Sam Webb off the practice squad.

Raiders injury news: S Marcus Epps lost to knee injury late vs Panthers

Marcus Epps went down with a knee injury and didn’t return in Raiders Week 3 matchup with the Panthers

The game in Las Vegas was pretty insulting early in the fourth quarter. Then injury was added to that when safety Marcus Epps went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury to his knee.

Epps laid on the field for a time being looked at by trainers. He would eventually limp off and into the locker room and not return.

The sixth year veteran is the starting strong safety for the Raiders and a big part of their defensive success over the latter half of last season.

With Epps out of the game, Isaiah Pola-Mao came in alongside Tre’von Moehrig.

The Raiders were unlikely to make a game of it in this one, but if Epps’s injury is serious, it would factor into the rest of their games this season.

This injury comes just a day after the news that Malcolm Koonce would be getting season-ending knee surgery. Koonce was another big piece on the Raiders resurgent defense last season.

Raiders DE Malcolm Koonce to have season-ending knee surgery

Raiders DE Malcolm Koonce to have season-ending knee surgery

Just prior to the start of the season, Malcolm Koonce suffered a knee injury in practice that had him placed on injured reserve. That designation would have had him out at least four games. But it turns out the injury is more serious than that. According to multiple reports, he will be having surgery on his knee that will end his 2024 season.

Koonce came on strong the latter half of last season and was entering a contract year with the hopes of earning a long term deal. This puts a damper on that as well as the hopes he and Maxx Crosby would continue to be a pass rushing duo for the Raiders again this season.

With Koonce now done for the year, the team will hope 2023 seventh overall pick Tyree Wilson will start showing some development. The other pass rushers in the rotation are Janarius Robinson and Charles Snowden with former first round pick K’Lavon Chaisson on the practice squad.

Raiders injury news: DE Tyree Wilson to return Week 3 vs Panthers

Raiders will get back former first round pick DE Tyree Wilson for their home opener Week 3 vs Panthers

Six snaps into the season opener, the Raiders lost Tyree Wilson to a sprained knee. After the game, he was sporting a brace on his right knee that limited mobility on the knee and at the time it was not known how much time he would miss.

It turns out that timeline was one full game.

The former seventh overall pick returned to practice this week for the Raiders. Though he was limited the first two practices. And Friday, head coach Antonio Pierce said Wilson will play in Sunday’s home opener against the Panthers.

With starting defensive end Malcolm Koonce on injured reserve for at least a couple more weeks, Wilson could see significant snaps, though he may not start. Even though he was healthy to open the season, it was Charles Snowden who got the start at defensive end opposite Maxx Crosby.

Snowden got the start last week in Baltimore as well, though Janarius Robinson would see more snaps. With Crosby typically playing every snap, it figures to be a three-man rotation between Wilson, Snowden, and Robinson at the other end spot.

It’s next man up as Raiders down a starting linebacker vs Panthers

Raiders expect to be down a starting linebacker this week. Who steps up?

In the team’s win in Baltimore on Sunday, linebacker Divine Deablo suffered an oblique injury as well as a concussion that has kept him out of practice this week. Friday head coach Antonio Pierce said Deablo “probably will not play” in Sunday’s home opener against the Panthers.

Stepping up for him will be Luke Masterson.

“Luke is that third wheel. If we had a tricycle, he’s that third guy you could kind of plug in at both MIKE and our Money and WILL linebacker positions. With Deablo more than likely probably will not play, Luke will be there, he’ll step up and he’ll do a good job. He’s started and played in a lot of games over his three years as a Raider. And he’s somebody who’s really dependable. He’s one of our core special teams guys and really a true hard hat mentality player that we need for a game like this.”

Masterson is the only other linebacker on this team besides Deablo and Robert Spillane to have played any snaps on defense (16).

No doubt there are some Raiders fans who would like to see rookie linebacker Tommy Eichenberg get a shot to see what he can do, but he’s just coming off an injury that had him miss a lot of time, so he’s not ready to be thrown in there at linebacker just yet.

“He’s getting there,” Pierce said of Eichenberg. “Tommy missed that month in training camp and a little bit of preseason, so he’s getting closer and closer. I just want to see a little bit more on special teams before I make that decision.”

In total, the Raiders have a whopping seven linebackers on the roster. The others are Amari Burney, Amari Gainer, and Kana’i Mauga. All three have played exclusively on special teams this season.

Raiders LB Denzel Perryman downgraded to OUT vs Chiefs

KJ Wright will be next man up at MLB for #Raiders as Denzel Perryman downgraded to OUT vs #Chiefs

Friday Raider Interim Head Coach Rich Bisaccia gave starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman a status of Doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. He said the team would be giving him another look on Saturday and possibly Sunday morning before deciding for sure whether he would be able to go.

Well, they have given Perryman that look, and the news wasn’t positive. Perryman has now officially been downgraded to OUT as the team heads to Kansas City.

The loss of Perryman is significant. He not only the team’s leading tackler, but his 85 solo tackles leads the NFL by a wide margin and his 133 combined tackles is currently third in the NFL.

He is the heart and soul and, most importantly, the brain of the Raiders defense. When he injured his ankle last Sunday against Washington, his absence was quite obvious.

Expected to replace Perryman at the MIKE is veteran KJ Wright who up to this point has come in and out of games when the team plays their base 4-3 defense.
