Kayvon Thibodeaux clears up ‘snow angel’ celebration after injuring Colts’ QB Nick Foles

Kayvon Thibodeaux sacked Nick Foles and celebrated by making a snow angel on the turf. He didn’t realize QB Nick Foles was seriously hurt after the play.

Kayvon Thibodeaux isn’t a stranger to headlines.

That’s one of the main reasons why he was such a perfect fit in New York when drafted by the Giants early in the first found of the 2022 NFL Draft earlier this year. In the Big Apple, with one of the most active media markets in the world surrounding him, Thibodeaux has been in the news a lot over the past few months, mainly due to his outstanding play as a rookie, but not hurt by his boisterous persona and fit-for-television smile.

On Sunday, Thibodeaux got into the headlines for the wrong reasons, though. After sacking Indianapolis Colts’ QB Nick Foles, Thibodeaux laid on the ground and celebrated the play by mimicking the making of a snow angel on the turf. All of that would be just fine if it weren’t for the fact that Foles, who went down hard on the play, was writhing in apparent serious pain next to Thibodeaux.

The optics of it looked pretty bad.

After the game, Thibodeaux cleared up his intentions with the celebrations and wished the best for Foles, who he said he didn’t know had been injured in the play. The whole sequence caused quite a stir on social media, with a lot of people shaming Thibodeaux for celebrating after injuring a player, while others made jokes at the whole situation.

Former Oregon guard Tyler Dorsey waived by Dallas Mavericks

Tyler Dorsey appeared in three games for Dallas this season, his first NBA action since 2018-19.

Former Oregon Ducks guard Tyler Dorsey was waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, making room for new two-way signee AJ Lawson out of NBA G League College Park – according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Dorsey’s three NBA appearances this year were his first since he was with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018-19.

He spent each of the previous three years overseas, first in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 19-20 and 20-21 and then with Olympiacos in Greece for 21-22.

Dorsey had nine points on 4-4 shooting in his first game of the season back on October 22, but he didn’t get back into a game until December 14, going 0-1 in two and a half minutes. He saw the court for another 90 seconds on Christmas, failing to score before ultimately getting cut the next day.

Dorsey shouldn’t have any issue finding a job in Europe with a prominent club, should he choose, but he could also try to work his way back into the NBA via the G-League – assuming he passes through waivers and is free to sign with a new team.

Dorsey played two years at Oregon in 2015 and 2016, averaging 14.1 points in 75 games while shooting a blistering 41.6% from beyond the arc.

How Oregon Ducks performed during NFL Week 14 action

Anthony Brown made his NFL debut and Justin Herbert dominated in another solid week of NFL action from Oregon Ducks at the next level.

The 14th week of the 2022 NFL season is in the books, and for the Oregon Ducks it represented the end of one quarterback’s journey and the start of another.

Marcus Mariota has officially been replaced as the starter for the Falcons after an up-and-down season in Atlanta.

However, Anthony Brown was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for Baltimore, and he made his NFL debut by completing 3-of-5 passes during Baltimore’s win over Pittsburgh.

The star of the week was Justin Herbert, who put together an outstanding performance against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday – a performance that set social media ablaze.

It was a fairly quiet week for Oregon alumni otherwise, although it was very fun to see offensive tackle Penei Sewell step out and catch a pass for a nine-yard gain in Detroit’s surprising win over Minnesota.

Here is a look at how every Oregon alumni performed in NFL Week 14 action:

Anthony Brown elevated to active roster for Baltimore Ravens

Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown is set to be active on Sunday for the Baltimore Ravens as the backup to Tyler Huntley.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is doubtful for Sunday’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which resulted in former Oregon Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown getting activated from the practice squad to the active roster.

Presumably, this means Brown will serve as the backup quarterback to starter Tyler Huntley on Sunday, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brown went undrafted after one season as the starting quarterback for the Ducks, eventually landing with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent.

He performed excellent during the preseason, to the point where Oregon fans questioned if Mario Cristobal held Brown and the team’s offense back last season.

The Boston College transfer stepped into a starting role with the Ducks in 2021, completing 64.1% of his passes while throwing for 2,989 yards and 19 touchdowns, along with seven interceptions.

Brown has yet to appear in an NFL game this season, but an injury or ineffectiveness (or perhaps a blowout) could lead to him making his debut on Sunday against the Steelers.

Oregon Ducks in the NBA: Bol Bol is becoming a star before our eyes

Bol Bol has developed into a star for the Orlando Magic, representing the eight Oregon Ducks in the NBA quite well so far this year.

The Oregon Ducks have consistently churned out NBA talent during the Dana Altman era, and so far this season eight alumni have suited up at the game’s highest level.

The biggest storyline among Oregon alumni has been the emergence of center Bol Bol. After getting traded twice last season (and having one trade voided) Bol has found a home in Orlando.

Playing alongside superstar rookie Paolo Banchero, Bol has begun to show the tantalizing promise that made him such an intriguing prospect. He’s blocking shots, shooting threes, taking guys off the dribble, and making a strong impact on both ends of the floor so far this year.

Dillon Brooks, Chris Boucher, Chris Duarte, and Payton Pritchard are all settling into key roles similar to previous seasons – although an injury to Duarte has slowed his progress in year two.

Here is a look at how every Oregon alumni is performing through the first six weeks of NBA action:

How Oregon Ducks performed during NFL Week 12 action

Justin Herbert was excellent and rookie Verone McKinley came up huge for the Dolphins in another good week for Oregon alumni in the NFL.

The 2022 NFL season is two thirds of the way complete as the playoff picture and Super Bowl favorites begin to come into focus.

The Oregon Ducks had 17 different players contributing across the NFL landscape in Week 12.

Some led their team to victory like Justin Herbert, who threw three touchdown passes in LA’s win over Arizona.

Some joined new teams, like Justin Hollins who was released by the Rams and picked up by the Packers, where he promptly made an impact in his first game.

Some made the best plays of their career, including rookie Verone McKinley who secured a crucial interception for the Miami Dolphins – the first of his career – in his team’s fifth consecutive win.

Speaking of rookies, Kayvon Thibodeaux got his first taste of Thanksgiving NFL football, recording five quarterback hits but no sacks as his team was unable to defeat the Dallas Cowboys.

Here is a look at how every Oregon alumni performed during Week 12 of the 2022 NFL season:

How Oregon Ducks performed during NFL Week 10 action

Former Oregon Ducks quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Justin Herbert struggled in Week 10, but other UO alumni in the NFL had big games.

The NFL is now 10 weeks into the 2022 season, with the playoff picture starting to get a little bit clearer in both the AFC and NFC.

The Oregon Ducks continue to have high profile performances across the professional landscape, although the school’s two quarterback alumni – Justin Herbert and Marcus Mariota – struggled in Week 10 for the Chargers and Falcons, respectively.

Elsewhere around the NFL, Oregon alumni Terrance Mitchell hauled in his first interception of the season – and ninth in his career – for the Titans, while Saints receiver Juwan Johnson tied a career high with his fourth touchdown reception of the season.

DeForest Buckner and Kayvon Thibodeaux remained key cogs on the defensive line for Indianapolis and New York, respectively, while rookie Verone McKinley had a career performance for Miami opposite another Oregon alumni, Jevon Holland.

Sabrina Ionescu announced as guest picker for ESPN College GameDay

Fans asked for it, and ESPN delivered. Oregon legend Sabrina Ionescu will be the guest picker for College GameDay this weekend.

The fans were calling for it, and the decision-makers at ESPN delivered.

Oregon Ducks legend Sabrina Ionescu has officially been announced as the guest picker for ESPN College GameDay this weekend before the game between the No. 9 Oregon Ducks and No. 10 UCLA Bruins.

GameDay will be returning to Eugene, featuring the Ducks for the 26th time in its history. The Ducks are an impressive 15-10 in those games where Lee Corso is in attendance.

After the initial announcement that GameDay was coming came out on Saturday night, fans quickly debated online who should be the guest picker for the Ducks. It usually is someone with a close tie to the home team and has a big enough fanbase that will draw passion from the crowd. Ionescu is a perfect fit, having been one of the best players in college basketball history in Eugene, and making waves with the New York Liberty in the WNBA over the past couple of years.

Ionescu was already planning to be in town to host a girls’ basketball camp, so this worked seamlessly.

Marcus Mariota’s vintage performance vs. 49ers had Oregon Duck fans celebrating on Twitter

Mariota was 13-for-14 passing and had 3 TD on the day. It was a vintage performance for the Flyin’ Hawaiian.

It appears that the marriage between Marcus Mariota and Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith is going pretty well.

The Falcons are only off to a 2-3 start on the season, but their 3 losses came by a total of 11 points to the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s clear that grabbing Mariota as their starting quarterback is working out for Atlanta, and it’s giving new life to the Oregon legend’s career.

We saw some of what made Mariota an Oregon legend on Sunday in the Falcons’ 28-14 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Marcus finished with an impressive 13-for-14 passing for 129 yards and 2 TD< while adding 50 yards on the ground with 1 TD as well.

It led to some fun on Twitter for Oregon fans who were once again able to prop up their favorite Hawaiian son.

Sabrina Ionescu named to All-WNBA second team

Former Oregon Ducks legend Sabrina Ionescu was named to the All-WNBA Second Team after a tremendous third professional season.

Former Oregon Ducks point guard Sabrina Ionescu was named to the All-WNBA Second Team on Thursday, minutes before Game 3 of the Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun.

Ionescu earned second team honors alongside Sylvia Fowles, Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones, and Nneka Ogwumike. A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Kelsey Plum, Candace Parker, and Skylar Diggins-Smith earned First Team honors.

Ionescu made her first All-Star Game appearance in 2022, winning the Skills Challenge alongside Zoe Brooks. She went on to win multiple WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week and Month awards, while finishing the season with averages of 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.

She also led the Liberty to the playoffs and into a surprising Game 1 victory over the defending champion Chicago Sky, before they were ultimately eliminated.

Ionescu clearly has a very bright future in the WNBA, and if health permits she will get a chance to play alongside fellow Oregon alumni Nyara Sabally, who was drafted by New York this past year before missing the entire season with a knee injury.
