Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals Game Preview

Why Pittsburgh Steelers Will Win

The Steelers have the weapons now to keep up if this gets into any sort of a shootout.

The offensive line is still a major question mark, and everyone will keep dogging Mitchell Trubisky until Kenny Pickett is ready, but Najee Harris is a special running back, the receiving corps is loaded with young talent, and the potential is there to keep up once the Cincinnati machine gets going.

The Bengals have upgraded in several areas, but can they slow down the better passing teams? Trubisky isn’t exactly Tom Brady, but he might go off on a secondary that has to prove it can hold up a bit better.

Week 1 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why Cincinnati Bengals Will Win

You mean besides Trubisky being the starting quarterback on the other side?

Pittsburgh still has a very, very questionable offensive front, and Cincinnati fixed the glitch. The O line that almost got Joe Burrow killed was upgraded, and that’s all he needs.

Yeah, Pittsburgh has the skill parts to make this a shootout, but they don’t have the Cincinnati receivers. Even if this isn’t an offensive show, the Bengals were able to beat the Steelers twice last season without the O going off.

Week 1 NFL Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The Steelers managed just ten points in both games against Cincinnati last year – they’ll get that in the first quarter. It won’t be nearly enough.

Burrow and the Bengal offense will struggle early, and then the running game will kick in. Joe Mixon will be the star for three quarters, and then the Cincinnati receiving corps will rise and shine.

Why Pittsburgh Steelers Will Win

It’s time for the defense to take over.

It hasn’t been bad over the last two losses, but the secondary has been hit a bit, and Buffalo was able to run relatively well and Alex Smith and Washington threw enough to pull off the upset.

Cincinnati’s running game doesn’t work, the offense has scored ten points or fewer in four of the last five games, and the turnovers are flowing with two more in each of the last five games and in six of the last seven.

Why Cincinnati Bengals Will Win

The Bengals need the Steelers to continue to be off.

The Pittsburgh running game isn’t working even a little bit – it hasn’t hit 70 yards in six of the last seven games and failed to hit 50 in five of those – there have been an impossible number of drops, and team seemed like it hit a bit of a wall after all the strange scheduling twists and turns throughout December.

Cincinnati has to somehow get QB Ryan Finley into an early groove just to keep the chains moving. This has to be a low-scoring game, the Bengal D has to be great, and the Steelers have to screw up.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE Eric Ebron, Pittsburgh
The Steelers win this by not screwing up, not taking a lot of chances, and relying on the defense to take care of the rest. However, that only works if the receivers start making more plays, and that includes Ebron. He’s being targeted enough to be a major factor, but has too many key drops and has just one touchdown catch in the last five games. After catching just two passes against Buffalo, watch out for a big performance.

What’s Going To Happen

Pittsburgh will get back on track fast.

There still won’t be a Steeler running game, but the Cincinnati offense won’t be able to take advantage to many opportunities, if any.

It’ll be a businesslike effort from the O, a charged up game from the D, and Pittsburgh will get back on track before dealing with Indianapolis next week.

Prediction: I absolutely love the Bengals in this position and will be taking the touchdown. The Bengals have the offense to put up points and answer when the Steelers score, I think 7 points is generous to give the Bengals

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-0) vs Cincinnati Bengals (2-5-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Cincinnati Bengals Will Win

The Bengals are rested, and Pittsburgh really, really isn’t.

It’s not just that the Steelers had their bye week well over a month ago, it’s that they’re coming off a brutal three-game road stretch with emotional wins over Tennessee and Baltimore and a relatively flat date against a plucky Dallas team that was overmatched, but balled out.

As good as the Steelers are, they’re not pushing the ball down the field enough, the ground game has failed to hit 100 yards in the last three games, and the run defense is starting to get hammered on over the last few weeks.

Why Pittsburgh Steelers Will Win

As great as Joe Burrow is, the Bengals have to run to win. Burrow is great at forcing comebacks and he’s playing well beyond his rookie experience, but the team has won two games this year and those just so happened to be the two times it ran for 100 yards.

The Steelers got hammered by Baltimore and Dallas was somehow able to get going for 144 yards, but they’ve been great all year against everyone’s ground game.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh
Johnson has been targeted 10+ times in four of the seven games he played in. Although he has had some dud games – one catch against Baltimore – but he’s still Plan A #1 WR on a stacked skill position team. The Bengal D has been up and down this year, but it’s going to give up a slew of downfield plays this week to a team that doesn’t normally hit deep shots.

What’s Going To Happen

Pittsburgh might be leaking oil, but they’re surviving on key offensive plays and a whole slew of takeaways form the defense. It has come up with two or more takeaways against everyone but Houston and Tennessee, and Cincinnati  is usually good for a giveaway or two.

Prediction

Steelers 24, Bengals 10

Moneyline (ML)

The Bengals (+225) may win eventually, but it won’t be against the STEELERS (-286), who have won nine straight in this AFC North rivalry. The -286 price is expensive, but if you’re willing – every $2.86 wagered will profit $1 if Pittsburgh wins – go for it.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The STEELERS (-6.5, -110) are worth a small play. As mentioned, they’ve had a few extra days off and should be fired up after the Browns loss. The Bengals might be playing for pride, but they’re 0-4 ATS at home and with the way their season is going, the home fans likely won’t show up in force.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 38.5 (+100) is the STRONGEST PLAY. Both teams struggle to score, ranking in the bottom third of the NFL. The Steelers are 24th, averaging 22.0 points per game, while the Bengals are 30th at 14.7 PPG. The past two head-to-head meetings totaled 30 and 29 points, respectively, and the last eight matchups are 2-6 O/U.

Plus, the Under is 7-1 in the Steelers’ last eight games after a loss, and the Under is 8-1-2 in the Bengals’ last 11 games inside the AFC.

New to sports betting? The +100 is an even bet. Every $1 wagered profits $1 if the two teams combine for 38 or fewer points.
