BuffaloesWire covered many losses but did win “Pick the Pac”

BuffaloesWire’s own Jack Carlough saw many, many losses in Boulder, but did manage to win the first annual “Pick the Pac.”

Buffs win!

That’s only been said once in the 2022 college football season. Colorado defeated California 20-13 in overtime on Oct. 15. But shortly afterwards, head coach Karl Dorrell was fired.

We won’t be firing anyone at Buffaloes Wire, however. Given that they had to watch that dreadful team, editor Jack Carlough didn’t let that waver from winning the first annual Pick the Pac. His 73-16 overall record, a .820 win percentage, was two games better than Trojans Wire’s own Matt Zemek, who made a late rally toward the top.

Here at DucksWire, Zac and Andy tied with a 69-20 record with Don coming in a game behind at 68-21.

We definitely wanted to win this, but as they say, there’s always next year!

Picking the Pac: College Wire staff makes Week 13 selections

Colorado can’t win games, but the Buffaloes Wire staff can certainly pick the winners of the Pac-12 contests.

Colorado is far from being at the top of the Pac-12 standings, but they writers that cover the Buffaloes seem to have a superior ability in picking winners in the conference.

Jack Carlough and Tony Cosolo are 1-2 in the Pick the Pac standings and unless more chaos occurs within the conference, Carlough is going to win this season. Having to cover that dumpster fire in Boulder, the BuffsWire staff deserves this.

There’s just one more week in the Pac-12 regular season and there are a few rivalry games on the slate, including the game formerly known as the Civil War. Matt Zemek picked the Beavers to win this game before the season started, so did he stick with the pick, or did he see the light and select the Ducks?

An Oregon victory would match up two of the three College Wire Pac-12 sites against each other in Las Vegas. We don’t know if Sin City is ready for that, but let’s hope to find out.

Picking the Pac: College Wire staff makes Week 12 selections

The Pac-12 upsets from last week didn’t hurt the CollegeWire Pick the Pac standings too much, but the records took a hit.

The Pac-12 endured its own chaos last week with two big upsets no one saw coming. Oregon lost to Washington and Arizona stunned UCLA. Since no one picked these upsets, the College Wire Pick the Pac standings didn’t experience a shakeup.

With just two weeks left, Jack Carlough seems to have a comfortable lead over three writers tied for second. As we look at the schedule, there are more 50-50 games this week than there have been at any time of the season. Can Stanford win The Big Game? Will Arizona’s run toward bowl eligibility continue? And who is truly the King of Los Angeles?

Here are the standings and how the College Wire staff believes what those answers will be come Sunday morning.

Name Last Week’s Record Overall Record
Jack Carlough (Buffaloes Wire) 4-2 64-13
Don Smalley (Ducks Wire) 3-3 61-16
Tony Cosolo (Buffaloes Wire) 4-2 61-16

Zac Neel (Ducks Wire) 4-2 60-17
Patrick Conn (College Wire) 4-2 59-18

Picking the Pac – College Wire staff makes Week 10 selections

The College Wire staff continues to Pick the Pac and the standings are getting tighter and tighter.

It’s November and the college football season is entering its last month of the regular season. Didn’t we just begin this?

A lot of interesting matchups are in Week 10 and none for interesting than the game in Seattle on Friday. The newly-ranked Oregon State Beavers are looking to continue their improbable season against the Huskies.

There are opportunities for some upsets that would rock the Pac-12 world. But if the conference wants a sniff of the College Football Playoffs, upsets wouldn’t be ideal.

Upsets wouldn’t be ideal for the leaders of the College Wire staff standings either as BuffaloesWire’s Jack Carlough is trying to hold on to his slim lead, but DucksWire’s Don Smalley and Zac Neel are closing in our pal who is having a tough time covering football and no doubt can’t wait for basketball to get underway.

Name Last Week’s Record Overall Record
Jack Carlough (Buffaloes Wire) 4-1 54-11
Don Smalley (Ducks Wire) 5-0 53-12
Zac Neel (Ducks Wire) 4-1 51-14
Tony Cosolo (Buffaloes Wire) 4-1 51-14
Matt Zemek (Trojans Wire) 5-0 51-14
Patrick Conn (College Wire) 4-1 50-15
Don James (Trojans Wire) 5-0 49-16
Andy Patton (Ducks Wire) 4-1 48-17

Picking the Pac – CollegeWire staff makes their Week 8 selections

A few upsets damaged some of the CollegeWire staff’s overall record, but we forge on with our Week 8 picks for the Pac-12.

Ouch.

For the first time this season, upsets took a sledgehammer to the College Wire staff picks. No one saw Stanford going into South Bend and defeating Notre Dame and after a slow start, Buffs Wire’s own Tony Cosolo has become Nostradamus by picking Colorado to win for the first time in 2022.

As for the rest of us, it was a dumpster fire. Only two staff members managed a winning record last week. With a small, but explosive week in the Pac-12 with UCLA going to Oregon, the standings are sure to shift once again.

Name Last Week’s Record Overall Record
Jack Carlough (Buffaloes Wire) 3-2 46-10
Tony Cosolo (Buffaloes Wire) 3-2 44-12
Zac Neel (Ducks Wire) 2-3 44-12
Don Smalley (Ducks Wire) 2-3 44-12
Patrick Conn (College Wire) 1-4 43-13
Matt Zemek (Trojans Wire) 2-3 43-13
Don James (Trojans Wire) 1-4 42-14
Andy Patton (Ducks Wire) 1-4 41-15
Matt Wadleigh (Trojans Wire) 2-3 40-16

Picking the Pac – CollegeWire staff makes their Week 7 selections

The Beavers saved most of our bacon last week in Pick the Pac, but now there’s disagreement over this week’s USC-Utah game.

We have breaking news heading into Week 7 of the 2022 Pac-12 season. Some of the Trojans Wire staff actually picked AGAINST the Trojans. We’re still trying to determine if this is a fireable offense with USA TODAY, but maybe they’ve been so shaken up by that piece of news that they haven’t quite decided.

Most of us finished 3-2 last week’s thanks to Arizona State’s shocking win over the Huskies and Oregon State bailed out nearly everyone with that last-minute win over Stanford.

It’s another slow week in the Pac-12 with several teams not playing.
